How to customize Air Command menu on the Galaxy Note 8

The Air Command menu is a permanent fixture on Samsung’s Galaxy Note handsets. This guide will teach you how to customize Air Command menu on Galaxy Note 8.

The menu gives you access to signature S Pen features. You can use this menu to access Galaxy Note 8’s new features like Live message, which Samsung describes as a new method of communication.

Air command can be accessed by taking out the S Pen. It can also be activated by hovering the S Pen over the screen and clicking the S Pen button. Features like Smart select, Screen write, Translate and Bixby Vision have been placed in the menu by default.

The rotating menu can be controlled by hovering the S Pen over the various options. There are a total of ten spots in the Air Command menu that can be filled with features. You can also customize Air Command menu on Galaxy Note 8 to only show the features and apps that you want.

How to customize Air Command menu on the Galaxy Note 8

Step 1: Take out the S Pen and launch the Air Command menu.

Step 2: Tap on the Settings icon in the bottom corner followed by Shortcuts.

Step 3: You’ll now see a list of features and apps that can be added to the Air Command menu. Tap on the “-” to remove any existing item and select a new one from the list.

Step 4: Simply tap on the features and apps you want to include in the Air Command menu and exit Settings.

Voila! That’s all you need to do to customize Air Command menu on Galaxy Note 8. The next time you launch the menu you’ll only see the apps and features you selected. They will be listed in the order that you configured.

Just a friendly reminder, since this feature requires the S Pen, you won’t find it on the Galaxy S8.

These Galaxy devices will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo (updated: September 21)

Not many topics keep Android users on their toes as much as big, feature-rich updates. And with the Android 8.0 Oreo update on the horizon, we are once more bombarded with questions. Will the Galaxy S8 get that update? When can I update my Galaxy S7? How about my Galaxy S6? Here we share what we know. We’ll get right to the question of which device will be updated, but for now, we can not make any predictions regarding a timeline. So, for example, we can say that the Galaxy S8 will, of course, get the Android 8.0 update, but we do not yet know when. Tracking Samsung’s Android updates over a long period of time, it is clear many series and devices always get two major OS upgrades, before continuing with security updates only. However, as indicated above, this rule is not firmly established for most of the Galaxy J series, nor for several other devices.

Over time, we’ll be updating the information above when we receive new information, or when it surfaces elsewhere. We have not included devices that have already stopped receiving major OS upgrades, like the Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 4, even if they still receive new security patches regularly. Other devices missing from this list will be added if and when we have tangible information to report.

One last thing we have to point out, is that we are, of course, not Samsung. This list is by no means based on official information and only enumerates our predictions, not Samsung’s official update policy. Should our information be proven wrong, we will update this article, but we are not responsible for your device’s updates. Galaxy Note 8 now shipping to customers in India

Samsung has started shipping the stylus-toting Galaxy Note 8 to the first wave of customers who pre-ordered a unit in India when reservations opened last week. The handset, which is priced at Rs. 67,900 ($1,050) in the region, comes with a free Convertible Wireless Charger and a coupon for a one-time screen replacement.

In addition, the firm has teamed up with HDFC Bank to offer customers who reserved the Galaxy Note 8 using one of its credit cards INR 4,000 ($62) cashback. Reliance Jio customers can also score themselves up to 448GB of additional 4G LTE data, spread evenly over the next eight months, as well as a Jio Prime membership.

“Galaxy Note8 with its stunning Infinity Display, enhanced S Pen and a true Dual Camera, is designed for those who want to do bigger things,” said Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India. “At Samsung, we listen to our consumers and bring in meaningful innovations that help make their lives better.”

Announced on August 23, the Galaxy Note 8 sports a stunning 6.3-inch edge-to-edge Infinity Display, an Exynos 8895 processor, 6GB of RAM, a 12MP dual-camera setup, an 8MP front-facing shooter and a 3,300mAh battery. It ships running Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but is scheduled to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update.

Samsung uses its Frame TV to showcase art at the London Design Festival

Samsung partnered with Saatchi Art and opened an exhibition at the famous London Design Festival to showcase its Frame TV. The company will also host a pop-up store for the visitors so that they can see the inspiration behind designing the artistic TV. It was designed by Samsung to blend in with artwork in a home when it’s not being used, which is a completely new concept and category in the TV segment.

Samsung and Saatchi Art will host a series of presentations, including ‘Vision Telling’, showcasing the intersection of art and technology. The Frame TV is available in 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch variants. It offers 4K resolution for exceptional detail and HDR for displaying accurate colors and life-like immersive content. Consumers can either choose artwork from the Art Store, Samsung Collection, or their personal art or photos on the TV.

The Frame TV can be used by artists, consumers, and galleries alike. At the London Design Festival, ‘The Frame X Saatchi Art’ gallery showcases prominent artwork from the online art gallery and artists all over the world. Samsung’s experts curate artwork to suit the tastes of any consumers. The company is also offering a six-month subscription to the Art Store, a choice of two stands, and six-month interest-free option for purchasing the TV.

“The Frame is created to push the boundary of the conventional TV which we only use when they are powered on. Changed to a beautiful art pieces when it’s powered off, The Frame will also be a new standard for artists and galleries to share their work through The Frame’s innovative feature ‘Art Mode’, bringing art into the consumer’s lifestyle,” said Sunghee Han, Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung eyes even higher market share in India’s smartphone market

Samsung is the largest smartphone brand in India, and it is now eyeing even higher market share in the country. As per the latest numbers from IDC, the South Korean smartphone brand captured 24 percent market share in India during Q2 2017, with Xiaomi closing in with a market share of 17 percent.

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Note 8 in India. The company is bundling a convertible fast wireless charger with the phone, similar to what it did with the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ earlier this year. The company has also come up with various cashback and discount offers to increase the sales of its phones during the festive shopping period.

Speaking to the media, Mohammad Asim Warsi, senior VP, marketing, Samsung Electronics, said, “The country is the world’s second largest smartphone market where we have sustained our position as the number one mobile brand. We expect to further consolidate our presence with innovative products and services.”

Galaxy Note 4 Blueborne patch released by Verizon

Verizon has released the Galaxy Note 4 Blueborne patch today. The carrier has been doing a good job recently of updating older devices with the latest security updates. This particular security update is a fix for the Blueborne Bluetooth vulnerability.

You may have heard about Blueborne recently. Discovered recently, it exposes countless Android devices to a potential takeover by hackers. This Bluetooth vulnerability also affects Linux, Windows and some versions of iOS.

The vulnerabilities allow for remote code execution which enables attackers to completely takeover the target device without the user even knowing. The attacker can then launch any app, install malicious code and even siphon data off of the device.

Verizon is now rolling out firmware version N910VVRS2CQE1 for this handset. The official changelog mentions that this firmware brings the Galaxy Note 4 Blueborne patch. The changelog also mentions that this firmware brings the “most up to date” Android security patches.

Verizon doesn’t exactly specify if it’s talking about the September security patch in cryptic terms. Nevertheless, the important thing here is that the Galaxy Note 4 Blueborne patch is included and that’s good enough for now.

There are newer devices that have yet to receive this fix. Hopefully, Samsung and Verizon will send the fix out for them in the near future.

Galaxy Note 8 global release will cover 150 countries by next month

Samsung released the Galaxy Note 8 in a handful of countries last week. It’s now going to gradually roll out the handset in more markets across the globe. Samsung has said that the Galaxy Note 8 global release is going to cover 150 countries by next month.

Samsung is going to officially release the Galaxy Note 8 in 20 additional countries later this week. It started selling the handset in its home country of South Korea today. The Galaxy Note 8 will be released in India, Australia, Russia and Thailand tomorrow.

In a bid to promote its latest flagship overseas, Samsung is going to open a Galaxy Studio in Melbourne next week. People will be able to get their hands on the Galaxy Note 8 at the studio where Samsung’s wearable devices will also be displayed.

The company has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 global release is going to cover 150 countries by the end of next month. Pre-order and release dates will vary by market. Get in touch with Samsung’s local arm in your region if you don’t know when the Galaxy Note 8 will be available in your market.

The initial response from the customers has been good and it appears that Samsung might have a hit on its hands with the Galaxy Note 8.
