Sprint rolling out Galaxy Note 10 September security update

Sprint is rolling out the September security update to the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. This is the same update that was released for the Exynos variant in other markets at the beginning of the month – in addition to the September security patch, it brings improved audio quality over wired earphones. The software version for the update released by Sprint is N970USQU1ASHB and N9705SQU1ASHB for the Note 10 and Note 10+ respectively.

Sprint is the first carrier to release a software update for Samsung’s new Note flagships in the US since the devices went on sale. Other carriers should also be releasing the same update for their customers, and we will hopefully see the unlocked variants getting it in the near future as well. Samsung’s support for the unlocked Galaxy S10 models and older flagships has left a lot to be desired, but fingers crossed the company does something about it with the Galaxy Note 10.

Sprint Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ owners can grab the update over the air from the Software update menu of the Settings app on their phone. Another way to upgrade is to download the latest firmware from our database (Note 10 | Note 10+) and flash it on the phone using a Windows PC.

Galaxy S9+ update brings September 2019 security patch

There’s a new Galaxy S9+ update rolling out today and it brings the September 2019 security patch. It’s a routine security maintenance release so there’s not much in the way of new features.

Samsung detailed the latest security patch about a week ago. It includes fixes from both the company and Google. That patch is now gradually being rolled out to compatible devices across the globe.

September 2019 patch arriving with latest Galaxy S9+ update

Firmware version G965FXXS6CSH5 has now been rolled out for the Galaxy S9+ in several countries across Europe. They include France, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Germany and more. This Galaxy S9+ update is rolling out over-the-air right now. It’s also available for download from our firmware section.

The security patch for September 2019 fixes four critical vulnerabilities in the Android operating system. It patches more than a dozen high and moderate-risk vulnerabilities as well. Fixes for 17 vulnerabilities that were found in Samsung’s own software are included as well.

This firmware update is currently being rolled out for the Galaxy S9+ in the aforementioned markets. It’s only a matter of time now before the handset gets it in other markets as well. The Galaxy S9 hasn’t received the latest patch at this point in time. It won’t be long before it does too. We’ll be sure to update you when that happens.

Samsung highlights the compatible apps for Galaxy Fold

As it gets down to the business of selling this new device, Samsung is now talking about the apps for Galaxy Fold which take full advantage of the handset’s unique functionality. The Galaxy Fold has an internal foldable display to which apps can seamlessly transition from the external cover display.

This feature is called App Continuity. Samsung has been working with its partners and the Android developer community on apps for complete foldable user experience. Since it’s an Android device, after all, the Galaxy Fold can run any app even if it doesn’t support App Continuity or Multi-active Window. It allows users to have up to three apps running simultaneously on the foldable display.

Apps for Galaxy Fold

Samsung has developed a completely new UX for the Galaxy Fold. It has also worked closely with Google to bring integrated OS support from Android for the foldable display. Samsung and Google also set up test labs in cities across the globe to work with partners and developers to test that their apps are optimized for the Galaxy Fold.

Google has also introduced changes in Android 10 which improve resizable activity, multi-resume functionality and enhanced multi-display type switching. Many widely used Android apps have already been updated to deliver an immersive foldable experience on the Galaxy Fold. They number in the hundreds and include apps like Spotify, Twitter, VSCO, Facebook, Amazon Prime Video, iHeartMedia and more.

These apps for Galaxy Fold are now readily available from the Google Play Store and the Galaxy Store. Samsung has currently released the Galaxy Fold in South Korea only. The handset will make its way to Europe starting September 18. The United States gets it towards the end of this month.

Galaxy M10s user manual found on Samsung India website, launch imminent

The user manual for the Galaxy M10s is now available on the Samsung India website, hinting at an imminent launch. Later this week, Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy A50s in India, as the company revealed through its social channels, and the Galaxy M30s will go official just a week after that. It looks like the Galaxy M10s could soon follow.

The Galaxy M10s, as the name suggests, will be a slightly improved variant of the Galaxy M10. The primary upgrade will be found under the hood, with the M10s to be powered by the Exynos 7904 chipset, a notable bump from the Exynos 7870 that powers the M10 as the 7904 has a couple of high-performance CPU cores while the 7870 is purely focused on efficiency. It will have 32GB of storage, as we had revealed, along with 3GB of RAM, the same as the Galaxy M10. It will have Android 9 Pie out of the box and should be eligible for the Android 10 update.

As revealed by the user manual, the M10s will have a USB Type-C port (the M10 has a microUSB port). The user manual doesn’t reveal any other upgrades, though. The device has dual rear cameras and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor; yes, the headphone jack is present as well. Samsung will probably remove the 3.5mm jack from even its budget devices at some point, but it doesn’t look like that will happen right away. Hopefully, the company still managed to cram in a bigger battery in there. The M10 has a 3,500 mAh battery, and a 4,000 mAh battery on the M10s would be a good match for the more powerful Exynos SoC.

How much the Galaxy M10s will cost and when it will go on sale remains to be seen. It shouldn’t be long before Samsung takes the wraps off the device, and we will be sure to let you know once that happens.

We tour Samsung’s IFA booth in our latest SamMobile TV episode

Samsung had quite a presence at this year’s IFA in Berlin. The company’s booth was teeming with exciting technologies for attendees to explore, and for SamMobile founder, Danny Dorresteijn, as well as our Samsung Device Specialist, Martin Reinders, to capture on camera and experience first-hand. Our team has now created a summary video at IFA, so in case you were unable to attend the event yourself, you can check out the latest episode of SamMobile TV and get up to speed.

From stunning new TVs that seem to magically become larger or smaller, to the redesigned Galaxy Fold that rose from the ashes like a phoenix, Samsung had it all at IFA 2019. The company has once again flaunted its ability to operate and become recognized in a wide range of industries, and this includes automotive. Samsung demonstrated its digital cockpit at IFA which, although impressive, seems a bit overkill with the number of screens it carries.

The Wall and The Frame aim to redefine the TV

Samsung’s The Wall is by far the most impressive TV we’ve seen so far. It’s a beautiful 146-inch panel with very small bezels and has been described as being “modular” by offering custom resolutions and aspect ratios.

The Frame is yet another TV showcased at IFA. It’s a more conventional TV compared to The Wall, however, it stands out with its ability to morph into a digital painting when turned off, thus aiming to beautify one’s living space even when the device is not in use.

Samsung’s brilliant strategy has Korea going wild for the Galaxy Fold

Samsung needed to leverage its brand value and perception as a quality device manufacturer to convince customers to purchase the Galaxy Fold after its initial troubles. The Galaxy Fold has been first released in its home country of South Korea where, unsurprisingly, the first batch of pre-orders quickly sold out.

This is the era of hype and Samsung knows it. So it has tightly controlled the supply to bring up demand and customers in Korea have responded. Local reports suggest that customers who weren’t able to get a pre-order in are now paying 20 to 25 percent higher just to buy the Galaxy Fold from resellers. Scarcity is a tactic that is commonly used not only to drive up sales but to create hype around a product. The sneaker industry is perhaps the best at deploying this strategy.

Galaxy Fold is fetching quite the premium for resellers

The Galaxy Fold already has an air of mystery around it. It’s unlike any other smartphone on the market. Customers haven’t had any opportunity to actually go hands on with the device ever since it was unveiled earlier this year. Add on top of that the rarity of it even after being released and hypebeasts in Korea have responded.

Since the second round of pre-orders has not yet opened, some customers who were able to get one in the first are now reselling their units online. The Galaxy Fold officially costs 2.4 million won or $2,012 in South Korea. Resellers are getting up to 3 million won or $2,515 for the same device.

Samsung is said to have released between 1,000 and 2,000 units of the Galaxy Fold in South Korea last week. The second round of pre-orders is set to begin on September 18 with the units being delivered starting September 26. It will be interesting to see if Samsung employs the same strategy elsewhere.
