One UI 2.0 beta for the Galaxy Note 10 is rolling out for good now

Samsung is once again rolling out the One UI 2.0 beta for the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+. The beta program was finally opened up to the devices last week. We were even able to get the beta on one of our devices in Germany.

However, the beta had actually been sent out by mistake. Samsung halted the rollout and we were told that it would be released next week. The company has stuck to its word and released the beta for the Galaxy Note 10 on the very first day of the week.

Samsung finally releases One UI 2.0 beta for the Galaxy Note 10

Samsung launched the One UI 2.0 beta a couple of weeks ago. The Galaxy S10 series was the first to get it. Samsung has released the beta firmware for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ in over half a dozen markets across the globe.

It had made no secret of the fact that the program would be opened up to the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ as well. It was only a matter of waiting for that to happen. The beta briefly became available this past Friday but the rollout was quickly halted. We did manage to get it on a device in Germany but many of our readers reported that they couldn’t make it past the registration stage.

We were later told that the beta had been sent out by mistake, not unlike what happened with the UK beta release for the Galaxy S10 a few days back. The company seems to have taken care of whatever caused it to pull the release last week.

There have been multiple confirmations from users in Germany that the One UI 2.0 beta for Galaxy Note 10 is now rolling out in the country. It’s the same firmware version that brings One UI 2.0, Android 10 and the November 2019 security patch. It’s only a matter of time now before the Galaxy Note 10 series gets the beta in other supported markets as well.

Samsung releases Galaxy S10 One UI 2.0 beta in China

We reported a couple of weeks ago that Samsung will soon be expanding the Galaxy S10 One UI 2.0 beta to a few other markets. The beta is already out in South Korea, the United States, Germany, India and elsewhere.

China was on the list of markets where Samsung was going to release the beta. That’s precisely what the company has done today. It’s rolling out the Android 10 beta firmware for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ in the People’s Republic.

Galaxy S10 One UI 2.0 beta is being rolled out in China

China is one of the few markets where Samsung releases the Snapdragon-powered variants of its flagship smartphones. The Galaxy S10 series runs on the Snapdragon 855 processor down there. Samsung is now rolling out the One UI 2.0 beta for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ in China. It’s rolling out firmware version G97*0ZCU2ZSJI for the devices.

The beta firmware brings Android 10 to these devices along with One UI 2.0. The latest version of Samsung’s custom skin for Android comes with several new features and improvements. You can find out more about all that’s new by following our One UI 2.0 feature focus series.

The Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ have been included in the beta program as well. It goes without saying that the phablets will eventually receive the beta firmware in China as well. Samsung isn’t quite done with releasing the firmware for them in other markets right now.

November 2019 security patch rolling out for the Galaxy Tab S4

It’s not unusual for Samsung to release an upcoming security patch for a device even before the relevant month rolls around. It’s the Galaxy Tab S4’s turn this time around to receive such an update. The November 2019 security patch has been released for the tablet in several markets across Europe.

The update has been released for the Wi-Fi variant of the tablet so far. As one would expect from a security maintenance release, the update primarily brings fixes for vulnerabilities discovered in Android and Samsung’s custom software. The September 2019 security patch was released for the device a little over a month ago.

Galaxy Tab S4 gets November 2019 security patch

The details of the November 2019 security patch are not available at this point in time. Google hasn’t posted the latest Android Security Bulletin. Samsung hasn’t detailed the patch yet as well since it does that after the bulletin gets posted.

We’ve seen this happen for many devices in the past as well. It’s not unusual to see a security patch being rolled out ahead of time. Samsung has released this update, firmware version T830XXU4BSJ2 in markets across Europe. They include Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Hungary, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands and Nordic countries. The firmware is readily available for download from our database.

November is just around the corner anyway. It’s not going to be long before the details of this security maintenance release are made public.

Galaxy S10 (Pie) update brings front camera slow motion mode and more

The Galaxy S10 series is receiving a new software update in some countries today, and it brings a couple of new features. These features include the ability to take slow motion videos with the front camera, a function called Auto Hotspot that lets you share your phone’s internet connection with other devices logged into the same Samsung account, and Intelligent Wi-Fi 1.5. The update also adds Media and Devices buttons to the notification shade to allow users to control external devices (such as TVs and Bluetooth devices) from a central location.

Samsung keeps introducing new features for with every other Galaxy S10 update

It continues to impress us how Samsung has been pushing out updates packed with new features – some of which debuted on the Galaxy Note 10/10+ – to the Galaxy S10 lineup. The last major Galaxy S10 update, for example, brought multiple Galaxy Note 10 camera features, and now, the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ are receiving new functionality that we thought was supposed to be introduced with the Android 10/One UI 2.0 update – such as slow motion recording with the front camera. This is the kind of after-sales support people expect when they buy a flagship smartphone, and the Korean giant seems determined to deliver.

We’ll have to take a deeper look at some of the new features, like Auto Hotspot and Intelligent Wi-Fi 1.5, to see what they do (Intelligent Wi-Fi is an award-winning collection of Wi-Fi functions that are already present on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10). In the meantime, if you’re in Switzerland or Germany, you can download the latest update over the air from the Settings » Software update menu on your phone. The update, which bundles the October security patch, should roll out in other countries in the coming days, and we’ll be sure to let you know once that happens.

Samsung heir appears in court as the retrial begins in the bribery case

Samsung Group’s vice-chairman and the de facto chief Lee Jae-yong appeared in Seoul’s High Court on Friday as the retrial in the high-profile corruption scandal began in the country’s capital. In August this year, the country’s top court ordered a retrial in the case, overturning parts of the ruling by the lower court that went in Lee’s favor.

“I feel very sorry that I caused concerns to many people,” Lee told the press (via Reuters) before entering the court amidst protests from some citizens demanding his arrest.

During the hearing, presiding judge Jung Joon-young said the case pertains to a crime planned and committed by the high-ranking officials in the conglomerate and that an effective monitoring system could have prevented it. “Please take this trial with an attitude to humbly accept whatever results of the trial will be,” the judge told Lee before wrapping up the hearing.

Samsung heir’s lawyers said they will not fight the top court’s decision and will only ask for leniency in sentencing. The next hearings in the case are scheduled for November 22 and December 6.

Lee Jae-yong was sentenced to five years in prison in 2017 by a lower court for paying bribes to Choi, a longtime friend and confidant of impeached former president Park Geun-hye. He spent nearly a year in jail before the Seoul High Court reduced his sentence by half and suspended it for four years. It was parts of this verdict that the Supreme Court disagreed with and ordered a retrial.

Galaxy Note 10 One UI 2.0 beta release has been delayed

We have known for a while now that the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ will be joining Samsung’s One UI 2.0 beta program. The company did start rolling out the Android 10 beta firmware for the Galaxy Note 10 earlier today. We were able to get the firmware on one of our devices in Germany.

However, it appears that someone had pulled the trigger on it ahead of schedule. We’re now hearing that Samsung has delayed the Galaxy Note 10 One UI 2.0 beta release. It’s a disappointing development for those who have been waiting for it.

The Galaxy Note 10 One UI 2.0 beta release will take place next week

Registration for the Galaxy Note 10 Android 10 beta program was open for a brief period earlier today. A SamMobile team member was able to register for it through Samsung Members in Germany and received firmware version N975FXXU1ZSJF. Not long after that, we started hearing complaints from users that they were unable to get it through Samsung Members.

It became clear that something wasn’t right. This seems to be a repeat of what happened four days ago for the Galaxy S10 Android 10 beta release in the UK. The option to join the beta became available briefly on October 21 and some users were able to get the beta firmware. Samsung later sent out a notice in the Members app confirming that the beta wasn’t meant to be released yet and that it would arrive at a later date.

We have been told that this is indeed the case. Samsung has delayed the Galaxy Note 10 One UI 2.0 beta release and the firmware that was available for a short period today was sent out by mistake. Samsung now expects to release the beta for the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 10+ next week.

It seems Samsung is in a rush to get the beta out quickly and is then having to pull it when it realizes that not everything is as it should be. While one can appreciate the sentiment, it would be much better if Samsung took all the time it needs so that it doesn’t have to go through all of this back and forth.

Samsung India partners with Dixon for feature phone manufacturing

Samsung could soon start selling new feature phones in India, according to a recent report from The Economic Times revealing that Samsung Electronics India and Dixon Technologies have entered a new partnership that extends beyond the South Korean tech giant’s home appliances division.

According to the report citing Dixon Technologies’ Managing Director, Atul B Lall, his company has been associated with Samsung’s home appliances division for the past two years. Now, both companies are ready to push this partnership to another level. ‘There is tremendous scope and potential in the feature phone market. We are confident that this relationship will go a long way‘ revealed Atul B Lall. Meanwhile, Executive Chairman Sunil Vachani promised that customers will have ‘an enriching experience‘ thanks to ‘Dixon’s manufacturing expertise and Samsung’s innovative solutions.’

The report didn’t mention any concrete details or hardware specs regarding any future Samsung feature phones, but they are going to be budget devices, through and through. They will reportedly be manufactured in Dixon Technologies’ new facility which has an area of 224,000 square feet (68,275 square meters).

Samsung is the top feature phone manufacturer in India, according to recent market analysis. Its market share grew by four percent from a year ago. However, other brands like Itel, Lava, Nokia, and Karbonn are gaining traction as well, even though the segment, as a whole, seems to be diminishing. The Samsung-Dixon Technologies partnership marks an effort to maintain leadership in India’s feature phone market.
