Galaxy Note 10+ 5G Android 10 update rolling out now

Samsung is rolling out the stable Android 10 update to the global variant of the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G. The Note 10+ 5G received the Android 10 update on Verizon in the US over the weekend, and the unlocked model sold in other markets (model number SM-N976B) is now being updated as well. The rollout has started with Switzerland but should soon expand to other countries where the 5G model is sold, such as Germany and the UK.

The Android 10 and One UI 2.0 update for the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G in Switzerland comes with software version N976BXXU1BSLA and includes the December 2019 security patch. You can expect the update to be exactly the same as the one released for the LTE variants worldwide. You can download the Android 10 update for your Galaxy Note 10+ 5G by opening the Settings app on the phone, selecting Software update, and tapping the Download and install option. You may have to tap that option a few times before the update starts downloading. If it doesn’t, you can grab the Android 10 firmware from our firmware archive and use it to update your phone using a Windows PC.

The Galaxy Note 10’s stable Android 10 and One UI 2.0 update was finally released last week, with Samsung beginning the rollout in Germany after running a beta test program for nearly two months in a number of markets. Now that the official rollout has begun, the Android 10 update will be making its way to more countries in the coming days and weeks, and we have made this handy list so you can find out if the update has been released in your country.

Samsung confirms Galaxy Tab S6 5G is coming soon

Samsung has quietly confirmed that a 5G variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 is on the way. The company is running a new promotion in its home country wherein it’s offering discounts and freebies on purchases of various products, and the Galaxy Tab S6 5G is listed as coming soon in the promotion’s landing page on the Samsung Korea website.

It was in back in October when it was first discovered that Samsung is working on a 5G variant of its latest flagship tablet. Carrying model number SM-T866N, the tablet then received Bluetooth certification and also gained approval from Korea’s National Radio Agency, making it more and more certain that it was on its way to retail shelves.

Samsung is using the same renders for both the LTE and 5G variants, so we can assume the specs will remain the same as well. Unfortunately, it’s not clear when the Galaxy Tab S6 5G will go official. Since Samsung is now listing it on its official website, the tablet could be showcased at CES 2020, which starts from January 7 and is also expected to be the venue where Samsung will show off the Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite for the first time.

It also remains to be seen if the Galaxy Tab S6 5G will be launched outside Korea. There has been no sign of a global variant of the device yet, so even if Samsung does plan to launch it in other markets, it probably won’t do so for a couple of months after its Korean debut.

Samsung’s new wireless power bank will support 25W fast charging

Samsung finally introduced faster wired charging speeds to its flagship phones this year, with the Galaxy Note 10+ able to charge at a whopping 45W, and the company is now working on a power bank that supports those faster charging speeds. The FCC has certified a new wireless charging power bank (model number EB-U3300) from Samsung, and its specs confirm that it will be able to charge devices at 25W.

Thanks to the SafetyKorea website, we even have a photo of the power bank, which reveals two USB-C ports and a wireless charging pad on top. There is no standard USB-A output port, as 25W and higher charging can only be achieved via USB-C to USB-C cables. The wireless charging speeds are likely to max out at 15W like Samsung’s current wireless charging power bank, and the power bank’s capacity will also remain unchanged at 10,000 mAh.

It’s unclear when the new wireless charging power bank will go official, but a launch alongside the Galaxy S11 in February next year is likely. Samsung may even launch it before the Galaxy S11, as it does already have devices on the market that charge at 25W, such as the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ and the Galaxy A70. Upcoming devices like the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A91 will support 25W super fast charging as well.

Samsung beats Huawei and Apple in flagship network speeds worldwide

The Galaxy S10 has the fastest data transfer speeds in nearly every market, according to a recent report by Ookla based on data gathered by Speedtest Intelligence throughout Q3 2019.

The benchmark compared the Galaxy S10, Apple iPhone Xs, and Huawei Mate 20 Pro in 15 markets to determine their average data speeds. Markets include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Galaxy S10 is the fastest phone in all but five markets

According to the data shared by Ookla, the Samsung Galaxy S10 outperformed the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and iPhone Xs in terms of average data transfer speeds in every market except for France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and Nigeria, the latter of which seems to lack enough data to include anything but the iPhone Xs.

Samsung was also the fastest brand of phones in the United States, and it was only last month when Speedtest data showed that the Galaxy S8 and Note 9 have remained the most popular Android phones in the USA.

Samsung leads the 5G performance charts, Qualcomm has the most popular modems

The recent Speedtest data shows that the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G achieves faster 5G speeds compared to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro in every 5G market except for China.

In addition to that, Ookla also looked at the most popular modem brands and, unsurprisingly, Qualcomm rose atop the competition in 133 countries during the third quarter of the year.

Qualcomm was followed by Intel whose modems were the most popular in 32 countries; Samsung, who won the popularity contest in 16 countries; and HiSilicon who was recognized as the most common modem brand in Costa Rica and Namibia.

At long last, Samsung stops launching new phones with old software

It has finally happened: Samsung has stopped launching new smartphones with a year-old version of Android. If you have been following our recent coverage, you have probably heard that the Galaxy A51, Galaxy A71, and Galaxy A01, launched in the last couple of weeks, run Android 10 out of the box. Samsung is also prepping other new phones with Android 10 preloaded. This marks the first time the company isn’t waiting for the launch of its next Galaxy S flagship before it starts putting out smartphones with the latest version of Android.

It’s unclear why Samsung decided to start doing so from 2019. We’re assuming the fact that Android 10 (and One UI 2.0) isn’t a big update has something to do with it. Samsung has already released the stable Android 10 update for two budget phones (the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30) and is aiming to update a lot more devices come January. Furthermore, the Galaxy S10 started receiving the Android 10 update in late November, a full month before Samsung released Android Pie for the Galaxy S9 last year.

It’s a clear indication that developing Android 10 for its devices has been a relatively easy affair for Samsung. Or, well, maybe Google asked the Korean giant to get its act together now that other manufacturers are being quicker with Android updates, and it obliged. Whatever the reason may be, it’s great to see Samsung finally stop launching new phones with outdated software. Here’s hoping the company will also start providing three Android OS updates to its flagship devices in the future.
