Android 10 with One UI 2.0 starts rolling out to Galaxy XCover 4s

Samsung has been on a roll over the past three months as it has released the Android 10 update to dozens of smartphones. It first started with the Galaxy S10 series getting the Android 10 update with One UI 2.0. Now, Samsung has released the One UI 2.0 update to the Galaxy XCover 4s.

The Galaxy XCover 4s is a rugged smartphone that was launched in July 2019 with Android 9 on board. The device is now receiving the Android 10 update with One UI 2.0. The new software update carries firmware version G398FNXXU4BTC7 and brings the March 2020 Android security patch to the smartphone.

The Android 10 update for the Galaxy Cover 4s is currently available in Poland, the UAE, and Vietnam. If the update notification hasn’t appeared on your smartphone, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings » Software update on the device and then tapping Download and install. The new update should also be rolled out to other markets in a few weeks.

Galaxy XCover 4s Android 10 features

One UI 2.0 brings Google’s UI navigation gestures, smoother animations, enhanced dark mode, refresh UI, tweaked icon designs, and enhanced permission management to the Galaxy XCover 4s. The update also includes Digital Wellbeing, smart replies, redesigned Device Care section, improved camera app, better legibility of text on the lock screen, upgraded stock apps, longer battery life stats, and more.

The IP68-certified and MIL-STD-810G compliant phone gets monthly security updates from Samsung. It recently received Netflix’s HD video streaming certification. Earlier today, the company also released the Android 10 update to the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20e, and the Galaxy J6.

International Galaxy A41 is official, will be available in Europe in May

Samsung took the veil off the Galaxy A41 in Germany moments ago. The mid-range smartphone will be available for purchase from May for the price of €299, and we can assume that it will be released in other European countries in a similar timeframe.

Although the international Galaxy A41 shares its hardware with the version announced for NTT Docomo a couple of weeks ago, the exterior design is very different; at least when viewed from the back.

The Galaxy A41 has a triple-camera setup with a 48MP main sensor

The main difference between the model for Japan and the international Galaxy A41 lies in the rear-camera design. The former version has a vertically-stacked rear camera assembly, while the international model carries a wider camera bump.

The mid-range solution unveiled by Samsung today carries a 48MP wide-angle main camera along with an 8MP ultrawide (123-degree) shooter and a 5MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera resides in an Infinity-U cutout and clocks in at 25MP. The AMOLED display has a 6.1-inch diagonal and a resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels.

You can use two SIM cards and a microSD at the same time

According to Samsung Germany, the Galaxy A41 has two SIM card slots that work simultaneously, as well as a microSD card slot that can be used to expand the built-in 64GB of storage by up to 512GB.

Other specs include an unspecified octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, a 3,500mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The Galaxy A41 ships with Android 10 and One UI 2.1 out of the box, it offers Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it measures 149.9 x 69.8 x 7.9mm while tipping the scale at 152 grams. The phone will be available in black, blue, and white, with a prismatic pattern on the back panel.

Future Low and mid-range 5G Galaxy phones might have Huawei modems

As the adoption rate of 5G ramps up, Samsung is looking forward to adopting 5G chipsets for its low and mid-range smartphones from Huawei, according to a recent Digitimes report citing industry sources.

Whether this means that future low and mid-range Galaxy devices will be powered by HiSilicon’s 5G-enabled Kirin SoCs or adopt stand-alone ‘Balong’ 5G modems is not entirely clear, but we assume it’s the latter. As yet, Huawei’s fully-owned chipmaker HiSilicon offers two 5G modems, namely the Balong 5G01 introduced in 2018, and the Balong 5000.

The latter was unveiled last year as a high-end solution, so as yet, it doesn’t look like Samsung would have too many choices to pick from Huawei’s catalog for its upcoming 5G low and mid-range devices. Perhaps Huawei intends to expand its 5G modem lineup to include more options by the end of the year.

Samsung might not want to invest in lower-end Exynos modems

Similarly, Samsung’s own 5G modem lineup presently consists of two models, specifically the Exynos Modem 5100 and Exynos Modem 5123. The former has been employed by high-end solutions including the Exynos 9820 and 9825, while the latter was paired with the Exynos 990 – also a high-end SoC. Perhaps Samsung doesn’t want to invest in lower-end 5G modems and will rely on Huawei instead.

Assuming that the report is correct, time will tell how a partnership with Huawei on the 5G modem front would work out for Samsung. In the networking segment, at least, Samsung and Huawei are close rivals, and they’ve been competing for 5G clients in countless markets.

Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition out in Germany with trade-in deals

Samsung revealed a couple of months ago that the Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition is set to launch in the UK, South Korea, Italy, France, China, Hong Kong, and Japan, but now, the company has decided to introduce the device to Germany where it’s already available for pre-order.

The Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition costs €2,580, but you’ll be getting more than just a Z Flip with a special paint job. The limited-edition box includes a pair of Galaxy Buds+, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, and leather covers for the foldable phone, all of which carry Thom Browne’s signature Americana striping.

You can save up to €520 via trade-in

Prospective buyers in Germany can now pre-order the Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition online, and they can expect the phone to ship after April 24 when the full release will take place.

If €2,580 sounds like too high of an investment for this limited edition package, Samsung offers the possibility to slash the price by up to €520 if you trade-in a Samsung or Apple smartphone. For Huawei devices, Samsung offers up to €360 trade-in value, while select LG and Sony smartphones can lower the price by up to €200.

The Thom Browne Edition has the same internal specifications and software features as the standard Galaxy Z Flip variant. This includes a Snapdragon 855+ chipset and 8GB of RAM, 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, and of course, the 6.7-inch foldable Dynamic AMOLED display with HDR10+ support. Software-wise, it runs Android 10 with One UI 2.1 and provides unique features like Flex Mode.

Samsung launches 2020 Galaxy A series, including 5G models, in the US

Samsung today announced that it’s bringing its 2020 Galaxy A series to the United States. Some of Samsung’s best-selling smartphones belong to the Galaxy A series. It offers a great mix of mid-range and premium mid-range handsets at competitive prices. So with this launch, Samsung will significantly improve its competitiveness in the mid-range segment of the market in the US.

The company has released many of these 2020 Galaxy A handsets in other markets already. So it’s about time that customers in the United States got the opportunity to purchase these handsets that provide great value for money. Samung has also confirmed the 5G models of the Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71, which have been rumored for months now, in today’s release.

Some 2020 Galaxy A models available tomorrow, 5G models this summer

Samsung is kicking off the US launch of its 2020 Galaxy A series with the Galaxy A01 and Galaxy A51 (LTE) which will be available starting tomorrow through Samsung.com as well as select carriers and retailers both online and in-store. Prices start at $109.99 and $399.99 respectively.

Later this summer, Samsung will launch the Galaxy A11 and Galaxy A21 in the United States with prices starting at $179.99 and $249.99 respectively. The Galaxy A51 5G and Galaxy A71 5G will be released in the summer as well for $499.99 and $599.99. We have previously reported that the 5G variants of the aforementioned handsets will also be available in markets outside the United States.

The Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 5G will allow Samsung to further increase its lead as the top supplier of 5G smartphones in the United States. It shipped 74 percent of all 5G smartphones in the United States last year. Given that these handsets cost significantly less than its flagship 5G-equipped devices, a lot more customers will now be able to jump on the bandwagon without burning a hole through their pockets.

One Hand Operation+ gets a Virtual touch pad, here’s how to enable it

Samsung has updated the One Hand Operations+ Good Lock module, and the latest release introduces a new feature called Virtual touch pad. It provides an alternative to One-handed mode built-into One UI. But unlike One-handed mode, the Virtual touch pad available through Good Lock lets you reach any part of your screen without minimizing it. Essentially, it works in full-screen mode.

This is particularly useful if you’re bothered by losing screen real estate in favor of reachability. With One Hand Operations+ and the Virtual touch pad feature, you don’t have to make this trade-off. You can download the One Hand Operations+ module directly to your phone from our APK archive (hit the link).

How to enable the Virtual touch pad

With Good Lock and One Hand Operations+ installed, launch the module from your apps drawer and follow these steps:

Step 1: Tap the On toggle to enable One Hand Operation+
Step 2: Enable and tap either the Left handle or Right handle – whichever you prefer
Step 3: Select the desired gesture, like Straight left, for example
Step 4: Scroll down the list of options and select Virtual touch pad

You can now perform the selected gesture (Straight left in this example) to enable the Virtual touch pad. As seen in the fourth screenshot above, the pad is generally located on the lower half of the screen, and with it, you can control a circular cursor to reach the upper half without having to minimize the display area. It’s particularly useful for devices with large displays, such as the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra, whose panels clock in at 6.7 and 6.9-inch, respectively.
