Samsung leaks own user manual for the Galaxy Buds Live

Samsung has spilled the beans on the Galaxy Buds Live again, this time by releasing the official user manual for the upcoming product, complete with bits of information regarding its design and some of its capabilities, ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 unveil.

The officially-leaked user manual contains information about pairing the new earbuds with a smartphone, the Touch area, and the charging case itself. The manual also reconfirms the addition of ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) and dives deeper into how customers should and shouldn’t wear the buds.

ANC leverages physical wingtips for a snug fit

Active Noise Cancelling technology requires a relatively tight fit, otherwise the ambient sound will make its way to the user’s ear drum around the earbud itself. Recent leaks haven’t really explored or explained how these bean-shaped earbuds will provide this type of insulation given that people’s ears come in different shapes and sizes, and although it was logical to assume that some form of wingtips will be involved, the leaked user manual at hand does shed a little bit more light on the matter.

Judging by the manual, the Galaxy Buds Live should rely on wingtips to provide a snug fit and help the case of ANC. In fact, wingtips are mandatory when using the Galaxy Buds Live, as using the earbuds without a pair of wingtips attached can result in physical injury, Samsung claims.

The user manual also contains basic sketches and information about the charging case, particularly the LED indicator and how it relays information about battery charge. For example, a solid red LED indicates that the case is charging, while a rapidly-blinking red LED suggests that charging was blocked due to abnormal temperatures. Unsurprisingly, the charging case has complementary built-in safety measures.

Samsung’s 1st Galaxy Unpacked official trailer builds some real hype

For the first time ever, Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place in a wholly-virtual manner. There will be no public attendance and no crowd at this year’s August Galaxy Unpacked for obvious reasons concerning the 2019 novel coronavirus.

This is a sad state of affairs especially for the press including SamMobile who has been attending Galaxy Unpacked for years. However, Samsung wants to make up for it with an excellent virtual event, and today the company unveiled its first official trailer for Galaxy Unpacked 2020, giving us more information on what we can expect early next month. The hype is real!

Galaxy Unpacked 2020 goes beyond the launch of new devices

In case there was any doubt, Samsung’s first official trailer for Galaxy Unpacked 2020 reconfirms the launch of numerous devices at the event, including (from left to right) the Galaxy Tab S7 series, the Galaxy Buds Live, the Galaxy Watch 3, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and the Galaxy Note 20.

But perhaps in a more exciting turn of events, the trailer hypes things up with the words exclusive access to untold stories from developers, designers, innovators inside Samsung Digital City, the heart of Samsung.

If Samsung wants its first virtual launch event to be successful enough to create a precedent, it has to deliver something special. And judging by this first trailer alone, the company appears to be on the right track. It surely got us hyped for the near future, and we’re very eager to see what information locked inside Samsung Digital City the company is willing to share with the public.

Samsung could win big on Intel’s failure to deliver on its 7nm promisses

Intel has been struggling with advancing its manufacturing processes to 7nm, and this could spell good news for Samsung’s foundry business. Last week, Intel revealed that its ongoing transition to 7nm has been problematic and that its first 7nm-based chips might not make it to market earlier than 2022 – a year later than initially planned.

Some industry watchers now suspect that these unfavorable circumstances could force Intel to seek 3rd-party assistance in a bid to keep up with the competition. In other words, Intel might have to offload the production of 7nm chips to Samsung’s foundry business.

Why Samsung and not TSMC?

Aside from the fact that TSMC is one of Intel’s rivals in the foundry business – much like Samsung is – industry watchers believe that Samsung has a much higher chance than TSMC to sign a contract with Intel for the production of 7nm chips. One of the main reasons behind this is that TSMC is already the main supplier of Intel’s biggest rivals in the PC chip business, AMD.

Samsung’s foundry business is rivaling Intel’s own endeavors in the segment, however, Samsung is at least not building high-end chipsets for its main competitor in the PC market, which gives it a greater chance of becoming an Intel supplier.

Samsung might be expanding its chipset factory in Austin

According to a report from ZDNet citing industry sources, Samsung might be planning to expand its chip foundry in Austin, Texas, assuming that Intel becomes its client for 7nm manufacturing.

Samsung did pull the plug on the development of its own custom chipsets at Austin. Nevertheless, the state capital of Texas remains home of Samsung’s largest semiconductor manufacturing plant outside of South Korea. However, the Austin facilities are ill-equipped for 7nm EUV manufacturing. If Intel decides to build its future 7nm chips with Samsung’s help, the latter company might decide – and have a reason – to expand its Austin facilities and be closer to Intel and meet the company’s requirements.

Galaxy S9/S9+ on T-Mobile’s network finally getting One UI 2.1

Owners of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ who also happen to be T-Mobile US customers are finally able to see what all the fuss about the One UI 2.1 update is about. First reports about the arrival of One UI 2.1 to the Galaxy S9 series appeared just moments ago, and it’s to be presumed the rollout won’t be fully completed until early next month. As a reminder, its custom build of One UI 2.1 for the Galaxy Note 9 has already been available on a national level for some time now.

The specific device models eligible for the update are the SM-G960U and SM-G965U, which would be the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ designated for T-Mobile’s network, respectively.

The final major OS update for the Galaxy S9 series

This OTA is essentially the Galaxy S9 line’s software swan song as it’s highly unlikely Samsung will be optimizing its upcoming Android 11 implementation for its 2018 flagships or giving them the One UI 2.5 update. Which isn’t to say the devices will stop receiving regular security updates. Speaking of which, this latest One UI 2.1 release ships with the latest security patch level dated July 1st, 2020.

The OS upgrade is over 1.1GB in size, so it’s recommended you download it over a stable Wi-Fi connection. If you haven’t already received a notification prompt about its availability, you can always attempt a manual search by going to the Software update section of the Settings app, and then tapping the Download and install option on the following interface. India unlikely to get all Galaxy Note 20/Note 20 Ultra colors

In an unsurprising turn of events, a newly surfaced report suggests India won’t be getting every color option that Samsung has planned for the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. More specifically, the regular model is expected to launch in green and bronze variants, whereas the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 10+ should be available in black and that very same bronze hue. Previous rumors suggested the finish shared by both models will be marketed as Mystic Bronze (pictured above), whereas one of the other colors may be officially called Mint Green.

In other words, there’s still no indication that the recently surfaced white version of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will be available for purchase in India, at least not from day one. Speaking of which, the same source suggests you shouldn’t expect to be able to buy an LTE-only variant of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Galaxy Note 20 launch happening next week

The Mystic Bronze color could be the final name of the Copper Brown finish we originally learned about last month. It’s still unclear whether the S Pen colors will be contrasting those of their accompanying Galaxy Note 20 models, which is a practice Samsung first introduced with the 2019 generation of its productivity smartphones.

The Galaxy Note 20 lineup is scheduled to be officially announced next Wednesday, August 5th. As is the case with every new flagship series from Samsung, expect a pre-order period lasting several weeks before these latest stylus-equipped smartphones actually hit the store shelves. Today’s report even gives a concrete Galaxy Note 20 release date for India – August 28th – but with a disclaimer pointing to its tentative nature.

Samsung launches Galaxy M01 Core in bid to redefine entry-level market

Following several weeks’ worth of rumors, Samsung India today officially announced the Galaxy M01 Core, an ultra-affordable smartphone underlining the company’s growing ambitions in the entry-level market. The series includes two models and starts at Rs. 5,499, i.e. less than $75. That price point makes it an extremely accessible offering and one that Samsung is likely hoping will help it reclaim some of the Indian market share it lost to Chinese brands over the last several years.

The Galaxy M01 Core will become available for purchase in the country this Wednesday, July 29th. Samsung confirmed the handset will be offered in black, blue, and red color options.

Galaxy M01 Core specs

The Galaxy M01 Core underlines how much Samsung has been refining its entry-level portfolio from a pure value perspective. It features a 5.3-inch HD+ display, MediaTek’s MT6739 SoC, 3,000mAh battery, and an 8-megapixel rear camera, with a 5-megapixel one sitting on the opposite side. The base model packs 16GB of flash storage and 1GB of RAM, whereas the lineup also includes a 2GB/32GB variant. As the smartphone runs Android Go, even its cheaper version should be capable of delivering a consistent experience, though the more powerful model arguably offers even better value for money seeing how its price is only marginally higher, sitting at Rs. 6,499, which amounts to just over $85.

Samsung estimates the Galaxy M01 Core can offer up to 11 hours of active use, though the main selling point of the series is its ‘Make for India’ UX specifically designed for first-time smartphone owners. Some of its features include an intelligent storage manager which automatically detects duplicate photos and a highly-intuitive clipboard capable of contextual copy-paste functionality.

Galaxy Watch 3 hands-on video bares all

There’s a week left to go before Samsung takes the virtual stage to unveil new phones, tablets, and wearables for the second half of 2020, but we have seen some of them through leaked images and videos already. Today, someone has published a video showing us the Galaxy Watch 3 in the flesh, confirming many of the features that have been rumored (some of them through our very own exclusives).

The video shows the 41mm version of the Galaxy Watch 3, which has a 1.2-inch display like the 40mm Galaxy Watch Active 2 but with a physical bezel around it. The bezel has been slimmed down, and the buttons have also been redesigned, making the Watch 3 look more like a regular watch than any previous smartwatch from Samsung. There is also going to be a 45mm version of the Watch 3 with a 1.4-inch display, but that version doesn’t make an appearance in this video.

The Galaxy Watch 3 is shaping up to be a Galaxy Watch Active 2 with a physical bezel, and this leak doesn’t do anything to change that notion. Features like ECG, IP68 5ATM water and dust resistance, Gorilla Glass DX protection, and 8GB of internal storage are confirmed in the video, which you can check out for yourself down below.
