Samsung proclaimed world’s best employer in Forbes study

One silver lining to all the hardships so many have been enduring throughout this year is that the unfavorable circumstances helped the global workforce draw a more concrete line between companies, good companies, and great companies. Samsung belongs firmly in that final category, having just been proclaimed the world’s best employer, based on an annual Forbes study conducted by Statista.

While far from the only list of its kind, this particular leaderboard is held in considerable esteem; not just because of the Forbes brand, but due to the fact its methodology involves surveying tens of thousands of working professionals all around the world. This year, that figure reached no fewer than 160,000 respondents. So, it definitely gives Samsung some palpable clout in the context of business excellence.

Samsung rose to the occasion this year

And given the countless ways in which Samsung has gotten involved in the global fight against the by-now-not-so-novel coronavirus pandemic – from operational support for governments and other businesses to swiftly developed mobile solutions for individuals, factory closures, smart vaccine trials, and profound work culture changes – the company will definitely be able to hold its figurative head high once this year comes to a close. Even though business obviously hasn’t been great, as most conglomerates would agree.

But not many would have pledged themselves to global relief efforts as decisively as Samsung has. Of course, not many can ever hope to be in such a diversified position to get so involved in the first place, but it’s still a commendable thing to witness. Especially given how ethical concerns keep looming over Samsung‘s general practices, as tends to be the case with any business that gets to this size.

Samsung releases ‘Untact’, an 8K movie shot using Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20 devices

Samsung had announced last month that it will release an 8K movie that is filmed almost entirely using its flagship Galaxy smartphones. Now, the movie has been released in South Korea, and people can go watch it in two cinema halls (Yeonnam-dong and Seongsung-dong) in Seoul. The movie will be played on Samsung’s 8K QLED TVs in the cinema.

Untact, the 8K movie shot using the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Note 20 smartphones, is directed by Kim Jee-Woon, who has also made popular movies like “The Good, The Bad, The Weird” (2008) and the Hollywood action thriller “The Last Stand” (2013). The romantic movie Untact stars lead actors Kim Go-Eun and Kim Ju-Hun.

The movie will be played in the cinemas until October 25. However, only a small group of people can watch the movie at once as the 8K theatres use a reservation system to reduce human contact and to reduce the chances of contracting the COVID-19 infection. Untact will later be released in 1080p resolution first and then in 8K resolution on Samsung’s YouTube channel.

Samsung will showcase its lifestyle AV products, including 8K QLED TVs, The Frame, and The Premiere lineup of 4K Ultra Short Throw laser projectors. Visitors can also experience the South Korean tech giant’s latest flagship smartphones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.

Good Lock Home Up module update improves the file sharing experience

Samsung’s Good Lock module Home Up was recently updated to include new customization options for the share file pop-up menu. The new update to Home Up essentially adds a Share Manager that lets you customize the pop-up list containing possible sharing options.

As most Galaxy smartphone users know, the standard One UI sharing menu offers a handful of options for sharing selected files via Nearby Share or over the web with the most recent/popular contacts from the Direct Share section. The menu also contains a list of all apps through which you can share selected files but it lacks any customization options. Home Up flips the script by giving uses the option to personalize the list through the recent Share Manager feature.

The new Share Manager lets you disable the Nearby Share shortcut and sharing data details. There’s also an option to customize Direct Share, either by removing this section from the sharing menu entirely or by adding the contacts of your choosing to the Direct Share list.

Another highlight to this update is the new option for customizing the list of apps in depth. It lets you remove certain elements of an app; for example you can have Facebook News Feed as an option for sharing while disabling Facebook Your Story from the list.

Home Up is a Good Lock module that was released half a year ago, meaning it doesn’t work independently without Good Lock. It’s not available everywhere but Samsung is expanding the availability of Good Lock to more countries. You can grab the latest version of Home Up from the Galaxy Store where it’s listed, or you can download it from our APK archive.

October 2020 security update lands on the Galaxy Note 10 Lite in Europe

Samsung is bringing the October 2020 security patch to the Galaxy Note 10 Lite with a new firmware update that’s rolling out now in Europe. No, not the base Galaxy Note 20 model which could be a Lite model in its own right, but the actual Galaxy Note 10 Lite which was released in January and arguably fell into obscurity months later.

The latest firmware update including the October 2020 security patch is now available for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite in Spain. It doesn’t seem to be available elsewhere at present but as always, the update’s reaches will expand into additional markets sooner rather than later. Interestingly enough, the update is being rolled out in Spain where the Galaxy Note 10 Lite also got a head start with the One UI 2.5 firmware update last month.

The latest firmware for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite carries version N770FXXU6CTJ2 but at the time of writing we were unable to confirm if the package includes any new features. Nevertheless, the October 2020 security patch was detailed by Samsung last week and it’s a most-welcomed addition. The patch addresses 21 vulnerabilities found in Samsung’s software, one of which could be exploited to gain unauthorized access to content on the SD card and Secure Folder.

If you use the Galaxy Note 10 Lite in Spain, you should be able to download the latest firmware by tapping the update notification once it arrives or by opening Settings on the phone, accessing Software update and tapping Download and install. As always, you can also download the firmware from our website and install it on your phone using a Windows PC. Lastly, you can check our firmware archive for availability in other markets.
