Galaxy A51 now receiving One UI 2.5 update

Some international variants of the Galaxy A51 started receiving the One UI 2.5 update over the weekend, together with the latest Android security patch level dated October 1st, 2020. The rollout started yesterday in Russia and while it has yet to expand to more countries, the wait shouldn’t be too long. After all, it hasn’t even been a full week since the same software upgrade began reaching the Galaxy A71.

This particular release, build version A515FXXU4CTJ1, is targeting Galaxy A51 devices carrying model number SM-A515F. And the fact that it combines a new security patch with a more comprehensive update to Samsung’s custom Android implementation explains why the former is a bit late to start deploying. As a reminder, it’s been over six weeks since the September security update started rolling out to the same Galaxy A51 models.

Samsung’s ultimate Android 10 experience

As per usual, you can already download the original system images from our firmware archives. That’s in case you aren’t willing to wait for the One UI 2.5 update to reach you naturally and instead want to manually flash it onto your Galaxy A51. Backing up your data prior to doing so is strongly advised. And once your backup is in order, it doesn’t hurt to try triggering the over-the-air installation one final time by launching the Settings app, tapping the Software update item near the bottom of its menu, and selecting the Update and install option on the next interface that greets you.

As for the update itself, One UI 2.5 is essentially the ultimate version of the Android 10 experience Samsung put together for its smartphone customers. Among other things, it introduces various camera advances, expands Always On Display functionality to Bitmoji, and adds a wide range of minor fixes and stability improvements. The Galaxy A51 almost certainly isn’t getting the full scope of the update due to hardware limitations, but with no official changelog being available as of Monday morning CET, we’re still trying to figure out what exactly made the cut.

Galaxy Fit 2, Wireless Charger Trio, and new colors for Galaxy Buds Live now available in the US

Samsung had unveiled the Galaxy Fit 2 and Wireless Charger Trio two months ago. Now, the company has started selling them in the US along with two new color variants of the Galaxy Buds Live. The company’s latest truly wireless earphones are now available in Aura Blue and Mystic Red.

The new Galaxy Buds Live color variants look very attractive, and they are a great addition to the existing lineup (Mystic Black, Mystic Bronze, and Mystic White). Samsung is offering a lot of variety to those who are looking to buy a new pair of wireless earphones, unlike Apple which only offers its AirPods and AirPods Pro in white. The Aura Blue variant of the Galaxy Buds Live is available through Amazon ($159.99) and Samsung ($169.99). Samsung’s website is offering a trade-in value of up to $30 if you return your existing wired or wireless earphones.

The Galaxy Fit 2 is available in two colors: Black and Scarlet. It is priced at $59.99 and is available through Samsung’s website and B&H Photo. The new affordable fitness tracker from the South Korean tech giant has a slim and lightweight design and can last 15 days on a single charge. It has a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED screen, accelerometer, gyro, heart-rate monitor, sleep tracking, and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

Samsung’s new wireless charger can charge three devices (two smartphones and one Galaxy Watch) at once and is aptly named Wireless Charger Trio. It was unveiled early last month and is priced at $89.99. The wireless charger is Qi-certified and comes in two colors: Black and White.

Galaxy S9 One UI 2.5 update has arrived, yours to download now

Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ owners are beginning to receive what is set to be the last major update for their phones. Samsung has rolled out the One UI 2.5 update to the S9 and S9+ today, just a few short days after the latest stable version of One UI was released for the Galaxy Note 9. Firmware version G96xFXXUCFTJ2 accompanies the update, which is currently available in Germany but should be going live in other markets soon.

If you own a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+, you should be able to download the One UI 2.5 update over the air by tapping the Download and install option inside the phone’s Settings » Software update menu. You also have the option of downloading the latest firmware from our archive and flash it on your phone using a Windows PC.

Samsung heir Lee Jae-Yong’s trial in high-profile succession case to begin this week

Samsung Vice President Lee Jae-Yong was charged with accounting fraud and stock manipulation last month. This week, a trial will begin for his role in the high-profile succession case. It is being reported that the Seoul Central District Court will hold a session on Thursday to hear views from Lee and the prosecution team.

The court session on Thursday is aimed to enhance the efficiency of the trial. Lee was charged with a violation of capital market laws in a merger of Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T. He was also allegedly involved in accounting fraud at the company’s pharmaceutical unit, Samsung Biologics. The filing of the charges came two months after the independent panel’s recommendation not to do so, citing difficulties in substantiating some prosecution claims.

The prosecution team reportedly says that a judicial judgment is necessary in the case, given “the clear-cut facts supported by evidence, the gravity of the case, and the need to resolve the public’s suspicions surrounding the case.” Given the great public interest in the trial, many spectators are expected to be in the court on Thursday. However, the defendant is not required to be physically present, so Lee is not expected to attend the session.

It is alleged that Lee was involved in a scheme to unlawfully merge Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T to take over the control of Samsung Electronics, one of the world’s biggest conglomerate, from his ailing father, Lee Kun-Hee. Samsung chairman Lee Kun-Hee is bedridden since he suffered from a heart attack in 2014. Lee Jae-Yong has consistently been denying any wrongdoing.

Lee has already spent a year in prison after he was charged and arrested in a case that involved him bribing Choi Soon-Sil, a friend of South Korean ex-President Park Geun-Hye. Now, Samsung heir will go through yet another phase of tough trials, and the coming months could be tense for Samsung.

Samsung developing two new high-end Exynos chipsets, one features AMD GPU

It is rumored that Samsung will soon introduce the Exynos 2100 chipset and that it won’t be plagued by performance and power efficiency issues that plagued the Exynos 990. However, that isn’t the only processor that the South Korean smartphone giant is working on. The company reportedly has two more Exynos processors in the pipeline.

The Exynos 2100, which is expected to be a part of the Galaxy S21, goes by the internal model number Exynos 9840. According to Ice Universe (@UniverseIce on Twitter), Samsung is working on the Exynos 9855 and the Exynos 9925. So, we can expect the Exynos 9855 to debut with the Galaxy S22 in 2022. The Exynos 9925 will reportedly feature AMD’s Radeon graphics, and we can expect it to be released only in 2023. However, some previous rumors had claimed that we could see an Exynos chipset with AMD graphics as soon as 2021, so we can only be certain after an official announcement from Samsung.

Samsung had recently unveiled the Exynos 1080 processor with 5nm process, Cortex-A78 CPU cores, Cortex-A55 CPU cores, and the ARM Mali-G78 GPU. The Exynos 1080 is expected to be a mid-range processor and could debut inside a Vivo smartphone, followed by the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72.

Samsung fans have been waiting for an Exynos chipset that can beat its Snapdragon counterpart for years, but most of them are now losing hope, especially after the dismal performance of the Exynos 990. The South Korean firm’s semiconductor design arm needs to work harder to meet consumer expectations.

Breaking: Galaxy S21 Ultra renders leaked as well, show four rear cams

It’s a good day for those looking forward to Samsung’s next flagship phone. Just a few hours ago, we were treated to renders of the Galaxy S21, and now, renders of the Galaxy S21 Ultra have surfaced online as well. Naturally, the design language is similar across both phones, but what’s interesting about the S21 Ultra pictures is that they show four cameras on the back.

Four cams are better than three, wouldn’t you agree?

We’ve heard rumors that the S21 Ultra might have two telephoto lenses for handling varying zoom levels, and it seems that may indeed be the case, at least if these renders are accurate. Having two telephoto sensors would actually be a good idea and not just a marketing gimmick. The periscope zoom lens on the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra feature 4x and 5x optical zoom respectively, leaving the 108MP wide-angle camera to handle images shot at up to 3x-4x zoom.

Since high-resolution cropping for emulating zoom leaves much to be desired in terms of image quality, having a dedicated lens for 3x-4x magnification is a much better solution. And Samsung already has a 3x optical sensor ready to go – it debuted on the Galaxy S20 FE and could end up making its way to the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The renders also tell us that those huge camera bumps seen on both of this year’s Ultra flagships from the Korean giant are here to stay. However, the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s camera housing won’t stick out as much as it does on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra according to the dimensions provided by the source of these images. The thickness of the phone will reportedly measure 10.8mm where the cameras are placed and 8.9mm for the rest of the body, which is more or less similar to the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The source also mentions that the Galaxy S21 Ultra doesn’t have a slot for the S Pen, though that doesn’t mean we can completely rule out the possibility of stylus support. What we can rule out with a good degree of confidence is the presence of a flat display on the top-end Galaxy S21 model. The renders show a curved display, and we don’t think Samsung has any plans of completing phasing out curved screens from its flagships despite all the pushback it receives from some customers.

Naturally, everything is just speculation and nothing is final until the Galaxy S21 series goes official. Thankfully, we might not have to wait too long for that, as Samsung is pushing up the launch of its next flagship by a month or two, as we had revealed in our exclusive report.

Breaking: Galaxy S21 first look is here, and you may or may not like it

The floodgates are open: The first leaks showing us what the Galaxy S21 could look like are here. Two different sources have published renders of what is apparently the smallest of the three expected Galaxy S21 models, and they show a major new design change that you may or may not like. As you can see in the images below, the rear camera housing seems to extend from the metal frame of the device onto the back of the phone, which looks as funky as funky can get when it comes to traditional candybar smartphone design.
