[List] Galaxy devices that have received Android 11/One UI 3.0 update

Only four months after officially announcing the One UI 3.0 update, Samsung already brought its custom Android 11 implementation to quite a few of its Galaxy devices. At least compared to the pace of its Android 10-based One UI 2.x deployment efforts which have been ongoing until this very month. And assuming we’re counting Android 11 beta builds, which we are.

As Samsung is expected to begin ramping up the development and release of various One UI 3.0 iterations, this is a fine time for us to start keeping detailed tabs on that endeavor. This would primarily constitute tracking the exact lineups and models that have already been updated, as well as the order in which that happened.

We will be updating this list on a regular basis, so feel free to bookmark it if you’re eager to embrace Samsung’s latest mobile OS ASAP. Our definition of that term is about to change soon, anyway, seeing how the One UI 3.1 update is right around the corner.

In case your device isn’t on the following list just yet, here is when you can expect the Android 11 party to start on your end. Keep in mind that releases usually take at least several weeks before going fully global, with the possible exception of Samsung’s foldable smartphones.

With that said, you can download the latest system images from our firmware archives almost as soon as Samsung makes them available.

One UI 3.1 update brings Samsung DeX support to Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite started receiving the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update last week. The update brought a refreshed UI design and various other features to the mid-range tablet. However, most people failed to see that the update also brought a major feature to the device: Samsung DeX.

With the One UI 3.1 update, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite received support for Samsung DeX, but we still don’t know if it works wirelessly with monitors and TVs. The feature brings desktop-like UI to the tablet, allowing users to do tasks more efficiently while using the S Pen or when connected to an external display via a cable. DeX Mode is ideal when it is used with a keyboard and a mouse.

Given the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite’s Exynos 9611 processor, the performance of Samsung DeX might not be extremely smooth, but it is still great that the South Korean firm brought such a huge feature to its year-old mid-range tablet. Thanks to the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite’s big screen, DeX could become a handy feature for users.

You can see the DeX Mode working on the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite in the video below. The Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update also brought refreshed UI design, one-time permissions, permissions auto reset, media player widget in the quick settings section, conversations section in the notifications area, improved apps, and more to the tablet.

Samsung starts rolling out March 2021 security patch to Galaxy Note 20

Samsung’s first device to get the March 2021 security patch was the Galaxy Note 10. Later, the company rolled it out to various smartphones and tablets, including the Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy A8 (2018). The company has now released the latest security patch to the Galaxy Note 20 series.

The Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra have started receiving the March 2021 security patch in European markets. The latest software update, which bears firmware version N98xBXXS1DUC1, has a download size of 166.16MB. It is just a security patch update, and we expect it to bring only bug fixes and stability improvements. Apart from Google’s own bug fixes, the March 2021 security patch fixes three critical vulnerabilities related to the Exynos 990 processor and 16 other fixes related to Samsung.

If you haven’t received the update on your Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in Europe, you can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings » Software Update and tapping on Download and install. We expect Samsung to release the latest security patch to the Galaxy Note 20 series in other markets in the coming days.

The Galaxy Note 20 series was launched in mid-2020 with Android 10 and One UI 2. Samsung released the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update to the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra three months ago. Last month, the smartphones also received the One UI 3.1 update with a few new features.

Next-generation flagship Snapdragon processor could be made by Samsung

After sticking with TSMC for two years (2019 and 2020), Qualcomm came back to Samsung for its latest high-end chipset. The company’s latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 888, is built using Samsung’s 5nm EUV fabrication process. And it looks like Qualcomm will remain Samsung’s client for another year.

While some rumors had claimed that Qualcomm could switch back to TSMC for its next-generation flagship processor, reliable leakster Roland Quandt says otherwise. According to him, Qualcomm is already testing the Snapdragon 888’s successor, the SM8450 (codename Waipio), and that it will be made by Samsung Foundry. However, it is still not clear if the next-generation chipset will continue to use the 5nm LPE process or move to a better one.

Both Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 888 use Samsung’s 5nm process, and studies show that the South Korean chip firm’s 5nm LPE process is only as good as TSMC’s 7nm process in terms of power efficiency. It is also being rumored that Qualcomm will launch the SM8350 Pro (probably Snapdragon 888+ or Snapdragon 888 Pro) later this year, and it will most likely be made by Samsung as well.

Samsung already makes Qualcomm’s latest 5G modems—Snapdragon X62 and Snapdragon X65—using its 4nm process. Qualcomm’s next flagship processor could either use the same 4nm process or use the upcoming 3nm GAA technology, which is said to bring much better power efficiency compared to Samsung’s 5nm and 4nm processes.

Galaxy M31s starts getting the One UI 3.1 update in India

One UI 3.1, which debuted with the Galaxy S21 series earlier this year, is quickly rolling out to various Galaxy smartphones and tablets. After releasing the Android 11 update to the Galaxy M31s in Russia last week, Samsung has now started rolling out the One UI 3.1 update to the mid-range smartphone in India.

The Android 11-based One UI 3.1 (Core) update for the Galaxy M31s, which has firmware version M317FXXU2CUB1, also brings along the February 2021 security patch. The update has a download size of 1,932.15MB, so we advise you to download it via a Wi-Fi network. The update brings a refreshed UI design, one-time permissions, permissions auto reset, dedicated media player widget in the quick settings panel, a conversations section in the notifications area, improved Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls, and improved performance to the Galaxy M31s.

Samsung has mentioned in the update’s changelog that app copies made using Dual Messenger can no longer access files on the microSD card directly. Instead, users would have to go to the Gallery or My Files apps, select the required file, share it using the Share Sheet, and then select the copy of the app. The update also brings improved stock apps, introduces new features to Samsung Keyboard and Samsung Internet apps, and speeds up app launches.

If you are a Galaxy M31s user in India, and if you haven’t received the latest software update yet, you can check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software Update and then tapping on Download and install. The update will reach other markets gradually.
