Pre-registration for Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs goes live in Southeast Asia

Samsung’s latest Neo QLED TV series was officially introduced to Southeast Asian countries earlier this week. A landing page for the new smart TV lineup is now live at Samsung’s e-shop in Singapore, and prospective buyers can take advantage of a $200 discount if they act fast.

As many of you know, Samsung’s latest Neo QLED TV series was unveiled earlier this month at a dedicated Unbox & Discover event. The series includes 4K and 8K models, with sizes ranging from 50 to 85 inches.

The Neo QLED TVs have edge-to-edge displays and they benefit from features such as AMD Freesync, Super Ultrawide Gameview, a 120Hz refresh rate and a low 5.8ms response time.

Prospective buyers can now visit Samsung Singapore’s pre-registration page and show their interest towards the Neo QLED TV series. Those who pre-register will take advantage of a $200 discount on their purchase, but the clock is ticking and the offer will end tomorrow, March 26.

According to Sangho Jo, CEO and President of Samsung Electronics in Southeast Asia and Oceania, Samsung is maintaining its leadership position in these markets and QLED TV sales are growing fast here, leading the premium TV sector.

Meanwhile, the Korean media suggests that Samsung’s upcoming microLED TVs are also set to go on sale in Singapore soon, though no other details have been revealed. Samsung announced earlier this month that it will introduce new, more affordable microLED TVs at the end of March.

The Galaxy A52 5G is wiping the floor with rival mid-range phones

The new Galaxy A52 5G is redefining Samsung’s mid-range portfolio just as much as it’s challenging rival phones from other OEMs. It’s probably the closest we’ve ever gotten to a perfect mid-range device, and because of this, it represents a real threat to its competitors who are probably already laying down new plans for combating Samsung’s aggressive push into the segment.

Whether or not the Galaxy A52 5G is the best mid-range phone in the world may be subjective. The answer will vary depending on what exactly you’re looking for in a mid-range device, but even so, it’s impossible to deny the fact that the Galaxy A52 is the most complete smartphone in its segment. Other devices might excel in one or two areas, but the Galaxy A52 5G is just a solid phone across the board and unlike all of its rivals, it makes little-to-no compromises.

Galaxy A52 5G against the world

Some of the Galaxy A52 5G’s direct rivals are the Google Pixel 4a 5G, the Motorola One 5G Ace, the OnePlus Nord N10 5G, the LG K92 5G, the Oppo F19 Pro+ 5G, and the Xiaomi Note 10 5G, just to name a few. Each of these phones has a display with an FHD+ resolution just like the Galaxy A52 5G does, but their other display characteristics differ widely. As a result, Samsung’s mid-range phone is the only one capable of a high 120Hz refresh rate, with the OnePlus device coming in a close second thanks to 90Hz support.

Some of the aforementioned smartphones lack fast charging, others have more than 25W, but the Galaxy A52 5G seemingly hits the sweet spot with a 4,500mAh capacity and 25W fast charging capabilities. Other devices had to compromise either in terms of charging speeds or battery capacity, or both in some cases.

The Galaxy A52 5G offers the best memory options, and even though the Google Pixel 4a 5G has a slightly better chipset (it’s the only alternative that does, by the way), it’s lacking in various other areas such as memory options and the fact that it has no expandable storage, not to mention the fact that it has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner while being more expensive and a lot more difficult to come by.

Most other phones mentioned today have poorer-than-Gorilla Glass 5 display protection. Furthermore, the Galaxy A52 5G is one of the very few mid-range phones to boast stereo speakers, though the Pixel 4a 5G and the LG K92 5G do too. Likewise, the A52 is the only model listed here — save for the Pixel 4a 5G — to boast OIS (optical image stabilization) for the main camera.

Build quality is yet another interesting topic of conversation because most mid-range phones don’t have an IP rating. But the new Galaxy A52 does. The phone is IP67-certified which means it’s dust-proof and water-resistant at depths of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. As for its rivals, you can benefit from a weak water-repellent coating at best.

Combine all of this impressive hardware and build quality with a superior software experience and you got yourself the Galaxy A52. The phone offers three years of Android OS updates and four years of guaranteed security patches, whereas most other mid-range phones benefit from two major OS updates at best.

All of these characteristics make the Galaxy A52 5G a fantastic mid-range phone able to compete not only with Samsung’s own higher-end devices but also with virtually every other mid-range phone on the market right now. The best feature of the new Oppo and OnePlus phones is Samsung-made

Samsung isn’t the only smartphone manufacturer to have hosted a device launch event this month. Oppo and OnePlus have unveiled a couple of brand-new devices themselves, and while Samsung fans were busy learning everything about the new Galaxy A series, other smartphone users who aren’t in Samsung’s camp were looking at the Oppo Find X3 and the OnePlus 9 Pro with interest.

The aforementioned two phones are positioned higher in the market compared to the Galaxy A series but they do have something in common with Samsung. Namely, their LTPO AMOLED screens with adaptive refresh rate technology have been supplied by none other than Samsung Display, and they’re undeniably one of the best things about these new mobile devices.

The company is looking to expand its clientele

Even though they come from different brands, both the Oppo Find X3 and the OnePlus 9 Pro have virtually the same display. It’s an LTPO AMOLED panel with HDR10+ capabilities, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 1300 nits of peak brightness, and a 6.7-inch diagonal with a resolution of 3216 by 1440 pixels.

Samsung Display has reportedly confirmed yesterday that it is the panel supplier for both phones, and Oppo even commented on the fact that Samsung’s LTPO AMOLED solution has allowed it to reduce power consumption in the Oppo Find X3 by up to 46%.

Meanwhile, Samsung Display claims that it is looking to supply more global smartphone manufacturers with OLED technology moving forward, though it hasn’t revealed who its next client might be.

Samsung unsure what to think of Intel’s $20 billion foundry bet

Intel today announced plans to reinvigorate its foundry business and start doing business with third-party clients. The news took Samsung by surprise, but the company reportedly still isn’t sure what to make of the development. Especially in light of its recently expanded cooperation with Santa Clara.

Nonetheless, South Korean sources claim Samsung remains on “high alert” in the aftermath of Intel’s Wednesday announcement. An understandable reaction, given their historically fierce rivalry.

Why should consumers care either way?

Intel, for its part, has been sending mixed signals. The conglomerate intends to invest $20 billion in two new stateside foundries. That’s some pretty bad news for Samsung on its own, given how broad Intel’s list of customers is. Then there’s TSMC, which is also building a new U.S. chipmaking plant of its own, valued at $12 billion. But at the same time, Intel plans to strengthen its collaboration with third-party manufacturers, Samsung included, according to today’s announcement.

Between Intel’s newfound eagerness to pioneer new semiconductor tech and TSMC’s ongoing momentum, Samsung Foundry can hardly expect smooth sailing in the foreseeable future. For as long as the industry giants are keeping one another on their toes, consumers can rest easy. After all, product prices should reflect this increase in the overall competitiveness fairly soon.

But Samsung’s overall ambitions in the semiconductor space definitely took a hit today. Not to mention that its own plans for a new state-of-the-art chipmaking plant in Austin, Texas still haven’t been finalized. And $10 billion is a lot of money to have hanging in the air, especially when you’re a publicly traded company, meaning the one and only thing you can’t afford is time.

Galaxy S20 FE gets some Galaxy S21 camera features in latest update

Samsung introduced some new camera features with the Galaxy S21 series earlier this year. Some of those camera features were rolled out to the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Note 20 series last week. The company is now rolling out those camera features to the Galaxy S20 FE as well.

The latest software update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G, which bears firmware version G781BXXU2CUC6, has started rolling out in various European countries, including Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, the Baltic region, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and the Nordic region.

With the new update, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G has received new effects in the Portrait mode and the ability to use the ultrawide camera in the Pro mode. Sadly, the phone still can’t capture portrait images in low-light conditions and lacks the Galaxy S21’s Director’s View feature. Moreover, there is no option to choose the highest possible exposure time in the Night mode.

The company has not released the new software update to the LTE version of the Galaxy S20 FE just yet. If you are a Galaxy S20 FE 5G user in Europe, you can check for the latest update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. We expect the new update to be released in other markets and for the Galaxy S20 FE (LTE) over the next few days.
