Samsung helps launch world’s first 3GPP-compliant nationwide public safety network

Samsung has announced that its MCPTX (Mission-Critical Push-to-Talk) technology is powering the world’s first 3GPP-compliant nationwide public safety network that has been deployed in South Korea. The company collaborated with the leading mobile network operators in the country for the launch of the network.

The network is based on LTE and operates on the 700MHz spectrum. It offers fast and reliable network connectivity to first responders, including emergency medical services, firefighters, military, and police. Thanks to Samsung Network’s eMBMS (evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) technology integrated into MCPTX, the PS-LTE network is also capable of multimedia services like sending messages, videos, and video calling. Samsung claims that the PS-LTE network can service up to 2,500 devices per cell, double than what was possible in previous-generation public safety networks.

South Korea’s PS-LTE network was also connected with LTE-M (Maritime LTE network) and LTE-Railway networks that were already deployed on the 700MHz spectrum in the country. This network will serve as a unified platform and ensure interoperability between various public safety institutions in emergencies. Samsung was chosen as the provider of end-to-end PS-LTE solutions in 2018, and the deployment was completed in March 2021.

Seungil Kim, the Vice President and Head of Korea Business at Samsung Networks, said, “Samsung is proud to take part in building the world’s first nationwide PS-LTE network based on 3GPP standards in Korea, leveraging our end-to-end PS-LTE solutions. A reliable network is critical for real-time communication among multiple institutions in case of emergencies. We will continue to offer advanced PS-LTE solutions to bolster Korea’s PS-LTE network, meeting the highest standards for reliability, performance, and security.”

Samsung’s MCPTX solution can be deployed on the cloud, such as AWS, and the company is also working on the standardization of the technology with 5G networks. The company’s network business saw a boom with 5G and the ban on Huawei’s network business due to the fear of security issues.

Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 launched to supercharge multitasking

Many people use multiple devices for work. Samsung had an idea to create a keyword that would supercharge multitasking for them. So it came up with the Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500. Leaked earlier this month, the new keyboard has now been officially launched.

Samsung has developed this keyboard keeping in mind today’s mobile-first world. It allows you to get the efficiency of a physical keyboard even when you don’t want to carry your laptop.

Connect up to three devices simultaneously

The Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 is lightweight and slim. It can easily be slipped into your bag. The keyboard is capable of pairing with up to three different devices at the same time through Bluetooth.

You can switch between each paired device with one press of a button, this makes multitasking effortless. For example, you could be writing a detailed research report but when a text pops up on your phone, you can instantly switch between devices can send off a quick text.

Further customization is also possible. Choose three favorite apps on each device and they will open instantly when one of three hot keys are pressed. It even includes a dedicated DeX button. Press this when paired with a Samsung device that supports DeX and it will launch Samsung’s PC-like platform.

Despite the keyboard’s slim profile, the keys are about the same size as a regular keyboard’s. Samsung will offer the Smart Keyboard Trio 500 in both black and white colors. It will be available for purchase next month. The price will be confirmed at a later date.

Samsung Pay Mini coming to more Galaxy A, Galaxy M series phones

Samsung Pay Mini, which is a trimmed-down version of Samsung Pay, was launched four years ago. The mobile payment service allows users to make online payments and payments at retail locations via QR codes. The service was earlier limited to a few Galaxy A, Galaxy J, and Galaxy On series phones. However, the company has now started rolling it out to more Galaxy A and Galaxy M series devices.

The Galaxy A21s and the Galaxy M12 have started receiving Samsung Pay Mini in India with new software updates. Users of the two phones have reported that the feature was activated after installing the March 2021 security patch. Samsung Pay Mini can be linked to mobile wallets like Paytm and Mobikwik and bank accounts via India’s BHIM UPI interface. Customers can also pay bills, buy gift cards, apply for credit cards and personal loans, and know their credit score.

Samsung has also mentioned on its website that Samsung Pay Mini will be available on more Galaxy smartphones in the future. However, the company didn’t specify the names of compatible devices. The Galaxy M42 5G, which will soon be launched in India, features a full Samsung Pay experience. We expect more existing and upcoming phones with Samsung Knox to get the Samsung Pay Mini feature.

The company started removing MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) from its newer phones, which means that Samsung Pay won’t work on older PoS (Point of Sale) terminals that lack NFC functionality. The company explained that it removed MST from its newer phones because most new PoS systems feature NFC. Samsung had acquired LoopPay six years ago for $250 million for its MST technology.

Expect a rainbow of Galaxy Z Flip 3 variants this summer

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is going to launch in a whole gamut of colors as Samsung already laid out plans on how to one-up the picturesqueness of its 2020 foldable lineup. That’s according to a recent rumor passed out of South Korea which claims the futuristic clamshell device will be offered in no fewer than eight color options.

In no particular order, the alleged variants are black, white, dark blue, light purple, green, something between violet and dark pink, and a matte gray finish with a beige hue. The most affordable version of the device will ship with 256GB of storage, much like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 that should be launching alongside it, the same source claims.

Will the Galaxy Z Flip 3 join Samsung’s array of custom-colored flagships?

As for the rumored color options, a few of those sound pretty unconventional, with the choices themselves being reminiscent of some iconic flagship series from Samsung (the Galaxy S9 line comes to mind). Of course, variety won’t account for much if the majority of these rumored Galaxy Z Flip 3 models only releases in a handful of markets.

Such a move wouldn’t be out of character for Samsung, but that isn’t to say we’re expecting it. On the contrary, the colorful variety of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 line suggests we might be in for another vivid product family. But Samsung remains pretty big on color exclusivity as a marketing strategy, particularly when it comes to its most expensive offerings like the recently released Galaxy S21 range.

So it remains to be seen what exactly it has planned out for the Galaxy Z Flip successor which is expected to launch this summer.

Samsung’s first 11.1.4-channel soundbar is now available for pre-order

Samsung had unveiled its 2021 soundbar lineup earlier this year, alongside its Neo QLED TVs. Some of those soundbars went on sale in the US last month, but the company had not revealed the pricing or pre-order dates for its flagship soundbar. Now, the South Korean firm has fully detailed the HW-Q950A and put it up for pre-orders in the US.

The HW-Q950A is the world’s first 11.1.4-channel soundbar. It features Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and audio output of 616W RMS. It is now available for pre-order in the US via B&H Photo Video for $1,797.99. However, it still doesn’t have a shipping date yet, but we expect it to become available sometime next month.

Samsung’s first 11.1.4-channel soundbar is the successor to last year’s 9.1.4-channel HW-Q950T soundbar. The new soundbar system includes the soundbar itself (with center and side-firing speakers), a wireless subwoofer, and two rear speakers. It includes four upward-firing drivers for Dolby Atmos and six side-firing drivers for 360-degree audio.

Thanks to Samsung’s SpaceFit Sound feature, the HW-Q950A can auto-calibrate by calculating the size and reverberation characteristics of the room. However, it only works when paired with Samsung’s QLED TVs, using the TV’s microphone and DSP. Additional features include Q-Symphony, dual-band Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Alexa, 4K HDR10+ passthrough, SmartThings, and Tap Sound.

Galaxy S21 FE has a bigger battery than regular Galaxy S21

We had exclusively revealed earlier this year that Samsung will soon launch the Galaxy S21 FE. The phone’s design was leaked a few days ago, and it is expected to feature some of the most important bits of the Galaxy S21 such as a high-refresh-rate display, a triple-camera setup, and a flagship-grade processor. Now, its battery capacity has been revealed as well.

Last year, Samsung had equipped the Galaxy S20 FE with the same battery capacity as the Galaxy S20+, and we had hoped that it would do the same this year by equipping the Galaxy S21 FE with the Galaxy S21+’s 4,800mAh battery. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. According to our friends at GalaxyClub, the Galaxy S21 FE (SM-G990B) will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery. It uses a battery with model number EB-BG990ABY and a rated capacity of 4,370mAh, but Samsung will likely market it as a 4,500mAh battery (typical rating).

Galaxy S21 FE rumored specs

It has already been revealed that the Galaxy S21 FE will feature a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution and an in-display fingerprint reader. The device will be available in five colors: grey/silver, green, pink, purple, and white. It will also feature a 32MP selfie camera, an Exynos 2100 or Snapdragon 888 chipset, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and 5G connectivity. It will likely feature a plastic back, similar to the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S20 FE.

Other features that we can expect from the Galaxy S21 FE are stereo speakers, 4K 60fps video recording, IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, GPS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port, Samsung Pay, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and 25W fast charging. Samsung is rumored to unveil the Galaxy S21 FE in mid-August 2021.

Galaxy M12 will be launched in South Korea next week

Samsung has announced that it is bringing the Galaxy M12 to its home market. The smartphone was first launched in Vietnam and then in India, Europe, and the UK. The Galaxy M12 will be available in South Korea starting April 28, and it will be priced at KRW 198,000 (around $177) through Samsung’s website, 11th Street, Coupang, and G Market.

The Galaxy M12 will be available in South Korea in just one color: black. The mid-range smartphone will be available in both carrier and unlocked variants. Samsung is also offering a 2-month YouTube Premium pass for free with the Galaxy M12.

Galaxy M12 specs

The Galaxy M12 features a 6.5-inch PLS IPS LCD Infinity-V display with HD+ resolution. The phone runs Android 11 out of the box with One UI 3.1. It is equipped with the 8nm Exynos 850 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It has an 8MP selfie camera and a 48MP quad-camera setup at the rear. The rear-facing camera setup has a 48MP wide-angle camera, a 5MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. Video recording is limited to 1080p 30fps, though.

Samsung has powered the Galaxy M12 with a 5,000mAh battery, which supports 15W fast charging. Connectivity features include GPS, LTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The Galaxy M12 also features a side-mounted fingerprint reader for biometric authentication.
