Samsung’s running a new limited-time discount on the Galaxy A52 5G

There are plenty of reasons to love Samsung’s new mid-range hero phone — the Galaxy A52 5G — but the company is now giving prospective customers in the USA yet another incentive to consider buying the Galaxy A52 5G if they haven’t already done so. You guessed it; we’re referring to a new discount on the device, and the clock is ticking fast.

The Galaxy A52 5G was released in the USA for $499 but Samsung is now offering the device along with a $75 instant rebate with no strings attached. Customers who may want to lower the price even further can choose to trade-in another device for a more significant price drop. As usual, trade-in values differ by model.

You can now buy the Galaxy A52 5G for as low as $125 with trade-in

The highest trade-in value Samsung’s willing to offer is $300 for the iPhone XS Max, which means that eligible Galaxy A52 5G buyers could acquire the device for as low as $125. Meanwhile, trading in the Galaxy Note 9 guarantees a $200 discount.

The aforementioned $75 instant rebate applies regardless of whether or not you may want to take advantage of the trade-in deal. The only caveat is that it’s a limited-time deal and, as of this writing, there are only about 7 hours left on the clock.

Galaxy A30 Android 11 One UI 3.1 update out now, India first market to get it

The Android 11 update is hitting yet another mid-range model in Samsung’s smartphone lineup. On the receiving end this time around is the Galaxy A30. The update has been released in India (a previous story of ours incorrectly said the update debuted in China and has been taken down) and comes with version 3.1 of One UI, just like the Android 11 update for other Galaxy devices released in the last couple of months.

India is the first country to get the Android 11 update for the Galaxy A30, but more markets should be joining the party soon. Android 11 and One UI 3.1 include quite a few new features, such as chat bubbles, one-time permissions, improved customization options for things like the lock screen and phone app, improved Samsung stock apps, faster performance, smoother animations and other refreshed UI elements, and stronger privacy controls (such as the option to remove location data from images before sharing them).

The Galaxy A30’s Android 11 update includes the April 2021 security patch. You can download the update over the air from the phone’s Settings » Software update menu. The Android 11 firmware can also be manually flashed on the phone with a Windows PC using the relevant file that you can download from our firmware archive.

For those wondering, the Galaxy A30 is not eligible for Android 12 as it has already received two major OS updates and isn’t included in Samsung’s promise of three years of Android and One UI upgrades. However, it should continue receiving security patches on a regular basis for at least another year.

Samsung’s cheapest 5G Galaxy A series phone moves closer to launch

There’s no denying the fact that no manufacturer is doing as much as Samsung to make 5G connectivity more affordable. The company has a handful of mid-range phones sporting 5G connectivity on offer, including the Galaxy A32 5G, Galaxy A42 5G, and Galaxy A52 5G, and it is gearing up to make access to the new global wireless standard even cheaper with the upcoming Galaxy A22 5G.

The A22 5G has been the subject of a number of leaks over the past few weeks, and it has now taken an important step on its journey to retail shelves: The Galaxy A22 5G has been certified by the Bluetooth SIG organization. Bluetooth certification is one of the many approvals a smartphone requires before it can be sold to consumers, and while it doesn’t offer much detail about an upcoming device except for its version of Bluetooth connectivity (version 5.0, in this case), we already know a lot about the Galaxy A22 5G.

The only exciting thing about the Galaxy A22 5G may be… 5G

As you would expect from the low-end of Samsung’s A series lineup, the A22 5G isn’t a very exciting phone. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, which has slightly faster high-performance cores than the Dimensity 720 chipset that powers the Galaxy A32 5G (2.2GHz vs 2.0GHz). There’s 4GB of RAM accompanying the Dimensity 700 on the base model, and benchmarks have revealed that a variant with 6GB of RAM exists as well.

Other Galaxy A22 5G specs are expected to include an Infinity-V display with Full HD+ resolution, a 48MP+8MP+2MP+2MP main, ultra-wide, depth, and macro camera setup, a 13MP front camera, a 5000 mAh battery with 15W charging, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It will run Android 11 out of the box and should come in four colors: gray, light green, purple, and white. Pricing hasn’t been rumored yet, but it will likely have to fall somewhere south of €300 if Samsung hopes to sell the device in any meaningful numbers.

Exclusive: New Galaxy Watch 4 feature and Wear OS confirmed

It’s been a while since Samsung launched a new smartwatch. Earlier reports have suggested that the Galaxy Watch is due for a major overhaul this year. It’s not just the design and features that will see major changes. Samsung is reportedly going to change the entire operating system.

For the past few months, it has been rumoured that Samsung is ditching Tizen in favor of Android (Wear OS). We can now exclusively confirm some details about the company’s upcoming watches. Yes, they will be running Wear OS.

Galaxy Watch 4 will run Wear OS with One UI on top

Samsung may have as many as three new versions of its smartwatch. One will have more classic design elements, not unlike a conventional dress watch. The others, which will include an Active model, will have sporty design elements.

These new models are being developed under the codenames Wise, Fresh and Lucky. Wise has the classic design elements with the rotating bezel ring. The other two are Samsung’s sporty models for 2021.

Tizen won’t be used for this year’s smartwatches. Samsung is replacing it with Wear OS. However, it will be topped with One UI 3.x. This will be an entirely new version of One UI for Samsung’s wearable devices.

So the new watches will have a similar look and feel even though the underlying OS will be different. New SmartThings features are going to be included as well. The entire interface is going to be revamped for more ease of use.

Among the new features is one that essentially transforms your Galaxy Watch 4 into a walkie talkie. It will enable users to send short voice messages to their friends. The Apple Watch has had a similar feature for some time now.

Samsung hasn’t revealed as yet when it’s planning to launch the new wearable devices. It’s quite possible that the Galaxy Watch 4 will be unveiled alongside the new foldable smartphones. In that case, we may be treated to a bunch of new Samsung devices in July.

Galaxy Tab S7 FE gets same battery as Samsung’s most expensive tablet

It’s been in the news for a while that Samsung is going to launch a new tablet. This device is going to be a stripped-down version of the Galaxy Tab S7+. There have been a few reports about what this tablet might end up being called.

The tablet was initially expected to be unveiled as the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite. We later heard that it would hit the market as the Galaxy Tab S7+ Lite. Last week, it was rumored that this tablet will actually be called the Galaxy Tab S7 XL Lite. None of that may have been true.

Samsung is now making a “Fan Edition” tablet

The Google Play Console listing for this tablet refers to it as the Galaxy Tab S7 FE. Samsung brought the Fan Edition branding back last year with the Galaxy S20 FE. It also said that new Fan Edition models will now be released regularly.

So while we wait for the Galaxy S21 FE, Samsung is going to extend this branding to its tablet lineup. Another crucial detail has surfaced today. The Galaxy Tab S7 FE is going to have the same battery capacity as the Galaxy Tab S7+, the most expensive tablet Samsung sells.

The battery inside the Galaxy Tab S7 FE bears part number EB-BT975ABY. Its rated capacity is 9,800mAh and the advertised capacity is 10,090mAh. This is exactly the same as the Galaxy Tab S7+. Its charging speed will also be as high as that of the Galaxy Tab S7+.

This is shaping up to be quite an interesting product. Earlier reports have revealed that the Galaxy Tab S7 FE will feature a 12.4-inch TFT LCD display with S Pen support. It will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor with 4GB RAM. Android 11 will be installed out of the box. Samsung is expected to unveil the tablet in the coming months.

Samsung’s new foldable and UDC panels reveal an exciting future

Samsung Display today unveiled a range of new OLED panel options. This gives us a glimpse of the kind of devices that we can expect from the company in the future. The new options include significantly larger foldable panels in addition to an Under Display Camera panel.

The new display panels were unveiled as part of the Display Week 2021 exhibition. Much as you’d expect, it’s an online exhibition in which Samsung is participating virtually.

Samsung has some exciting devices up its sleeve

It has long been rumored that Samsung is going to introduce a bi-folding Galaxy device. Samsung Display’s new S-Foldable OLED panel is going to make that happen. This panel can be part of an in-folding or out-folding device. When folded twice, the device can be used like a smartphone and when it’s unfolded, it reaches a maximum size of 7.2-inches.

Samsung’s slidable displays have long been the subject of much speculation as well. The company has a ton of patents on the technology as well. A prototype of the Slidable OLED display has now been revealed. This technology makes it possible to extend the screen horizontally without requiring any folds.

In what might be an indication that foldable Samsung tablets are coming, Samsung Display has shown off a 17-inch foldable panel today. It provides the screen real estate worthy of a tablet in the 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded. A tablet with this display panel will certainly be a lot more versatile than anything on the market today.

Lastly, the company has unveiled its Under Panel Camera display. The solution it has showcased today is for notebooks, something that we’ve seen it tease previously as well. The front camera is mounted under the panel to allow for a truly edge-to-edge panel.

However, it’s expected that we’ll see this technology on Samsung’s phone in the near future. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is likely to feature an Under Display Camera.

Galaxy A72 May 2021 update brings video call effects feature

The May 2021 security update is rolling out to more and more Galaxy devices as the month progresses, as Samsung continues to show the competition how to lead in the software support game, and the Galaxy A72 is now joining the club. A new update is rolling out to the Galaxy A72 with the latest security patch in tow, along with a One UI 3.1 feature that has, so far, been exclusive to Samsung’s 2021 flagship devices.

Taking Zoom calls from home? You can now remove your unkept room from the background

This feature is called video call effects and lets you add custom backgrounds to video calls made using third-party apps such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Duo. You can use a basic blur effect (like the blur effect you get in the camera’s portrait mode), add an opaque color to the background (the color is selected automatically by the phone), or set a custom image from your gallery. It works great, and now that it’s arriving on the Galaxy A72, we can expect more mid-range and non-flagship Galaxy phones to get the feature as well.

The May update for the Galaxy A72 also includes improvements to camera performance, call quality, and file sharing via Quick Share (similar to the May update for many other Galaxy devices). It’s available in Russia at the moment but is likely to reach more countries within the next week or two, though some markets may have to wait longer as the Galaxy A72 falls in the quarterly update schedule and that means availability of new updates isn’t as consistent as it is for devices in Samsung’s monthly schedule.

You can check if the update — firmware version A725FXXU2AUE1 — is available for your Galaxy A72 by opening the phone’s Settings app, navigating to Software update, and selecting Download and install. You will also find the latest firmware in our archive and can download it to manually upgrade your phone using a Windows PC. Just be sure to do a data backup if you take that route and follow the instructions carefully.
