The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite leaks in new renders along with a tentative price

The upcoming Galaxy Tab A7 Lite has once again been spotted in a series of leaked renders. The images are accompanied by a list of specifications, some of which have been subjected to leaks before, and the source suggests that the budget tablet will be true to the segment and hit the shelves in Europe for around 150 euros.

The recent leak reconfirms Samsung’s intentions to release the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite in at least two color options: black and silver. The tablet should be equipped with an 8.7-inch LCD display with an unusual resolution of 1,340 by 800 pixels.

Low-end specs for a low-cost tablet

For a tablet that’s rumored to hit the market for roughly 150 euros, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite promises to deliver a basic multimedia experience enabled by a MediaTek MT8768-based (Helio P22T) chipset and 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Storage options consist of 32GB and 64GB, and the device will offer expandable storage through a microSD card slot.

The tablet is rumored to carry a 3.5mm headphone jack and two stereo speakers. The main camera has a resolution of 8MP and the selfie sensor — positioned for portrait mode — clocks in at a mere 2MP.

The tablet should also boast GPS and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, and Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite in Wi-Fi-only and LTE flavors. In both cases, the hardware is said to be powered by a 5,100mAh battery with 15W charging.

Samsung has started using AI to design and improve OLED manufacturing

Samsung Display is working on developing a new OLED display manufacturing method using AI (artificial intelligence) and machine learning technologies in an attempt to improve production yields and decrease manufacturing times, revealed the company at SID Display Week 2021.

The importance of AI technology in the display industry will increase in the future, said CEO of CAE, which is a Canadian-based manufacturer of simulation and modeling technologies. Samsung Display is already working on implementing new AI manufacturing technologies, and the company’s CEO confirmed that Samsung Display has in fact ‘recently introduced AI (artificial intelligence) technology in key areas of panel development’ for the purpose of increasing manufacturing efficiency.

AI can design the molecular structure of 100 organic materials in only 30 seconds

Samsung Display has revealed that OLED is the most representative area where AI technology has been introduced. For example, engineers used to design backplane materials by changing molecular structures to find the desired structural characteristics, but with the help of AI, engineers can now preset the desired characteristic values ahead of time. The AI then simulates various cases until it finds the correct answer.

This method can drastically improve OLED manufacturing times, as it takes only 30 seconds for the AI to design the molecular structure of 100 organic materials.

More so, production yields are also said to be improved by AI, especially in regards to high-resolution OLED panels. As a display’s resolution increases to 4K and 8K, the rate of malfunction for these panels increases exponentially. However, with the help of AI, Samsung engineers can design and verify 640,000 driving circuits every day, using only a server computer equipped with a 64-core CPU.

Move over: Galaxy A50 now getting May 2021 security patch

The Galaxy A50 is the newest Samsung device to receive the May 2021 security update. Or rather, the newest to have started receiving it, seeing how the said patch has only started rolling out. More specifically, we’re looking at the a build version A505USQSCDUE2 which was assigned to an over-the-air upgrade first distributed by Comcast earlier today.

But you should be getting the new update no matter what carrier you’re on. Of course, with this being the U.S. we’re talking about, consumers are still at the mercy of the telecom industry. The one that so far hasn’t felt terribly incentivized to be following Samsung’s leadership in Android updates.

Has the influx of security updates in the U.S. increased?

It does seem like there have been a few more U.S.-bound updates for Galaxy smartphones than usual lately. Samsung’s flagships especially have been enjoying a slightly increased frequency of these security releases. Well, most of them, anyway. At least Samsung U.S. has been going bonkers with all the amazing-value deals that are still going on at the moment.

So it’s not all doom and gloom, especially given the fact that anyone not too thrilled with the idea of waiting can also attempt triggering the download manually and see if they get lucky. To that end, you can open the system Settings app, proceed to the Software update section, and then pick – what else but the – Download and install option on the following interface.

Turns out Samsung does have the new Galaxy M52 5G in development

Samsung is launching a lot of low-end and mid-range smartphones these days. It’s seeing a lot of growth in this segment of the market so the company is responding accordingly. However, there’s some overlap between the different models on offer.

It was first reported a couple of months ago that the Galaxy M52 5G is in the pipeline. Samsung eventually released the Galaxy M42 5G which itself is essentially a rebadged Galaxy A42 5G. Now, though, it may finally be the Galaxy M52 5G’s turn.

The Galaxy M52 5G may arrive by August

The folks at GalaxyClub hear that Samsung is indeed working on a successor to the popular Galaxy M51. The assumption is that this could be the device that was originally developed under the model number SM-M425F. Something similar happened with the Galaxy M41 which ended up being launched as the Galaxy M51.

No further details about the actual Galaxy M52 5G are available as yet, except that it will have a 64-megapixel main camera. What most people will be interested in finding out is whether it will have a massive 7,000mAh battery like the Galaxy M51. For the sake of continuity, it just might. It’s unclear if Samsung may offer an LTE variant of the Galaxy M52 as well.

We can expect more information about the device to surface in the coming weeks. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy M51 in August last year. A similar timeline can also be expected for its successor. There’s also reason to believe that the Galaxy M52 5G will be offered in Europe. This will put this mid-range 5G smartphone in the reach of a much larger customer base.

US companies are now pushing for Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong’s pardon

Lee Jae-yong, heir to the Samsung group and the richest person in South Korea is serving out a 2.5 year sentence in jail. His sentence was handed down earlier this year. Since he’s not appealing the decision, he will serve out the entire sentence in jail.

The only way out for him now is through a pardon granted by the President of South Korea. The momentum has been building gradually over the past couple of months. Many in South Korea are in favor of a pardon for Lee Jae-yong. Now, even US companies are throwing their weight behind the idea.

Samsung is a key partner for the US semiconductor industry

Business leaders in South Korea have been calling on the government to grant a pardon to the Samsung heir. Even Buddhist monks in the country have expressed their support. South Korea’s president Moon Jae-in has said that he remains open to the possibility.

Such a decision will likely have political ramifications. That would be just one of the aspects that the government will consider. A recent poll showing that the majority of South Koreans are in favor of a pardon for Lee Jae-yong should help his chances.

American companies are now urging President Moon Jae-in to pardon Lee Jae-yong. The American Chamber of Commerce feels that the top man at Samsung can help President Joe Biden in his efforts to reduce American dependence on chips produced in foreign countries. The US president has been pushing an ambitious $50 billion plan to revitalize the country’s semiconductor industry. The aim is to make the US self-sufficient in chip production.

A letter by the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea to President Moon Jae-in points out that South Korea’s position as a strategic partner to the US would be at risk if Samsung, the biggest chipmaker in the world, wasn’t more fully engaged in supporting their president’s efforts.

Samsung is already one of the biggest investors in the semiconductor industry of the US. It already has a chipmaking factory in Austin and has also selected it as the site for its new $17 billion factory.

The stars seem to be aligning for Lee Jae-yong. Ultimately the decision rests with President Moon Jae-in and he’s keeping his cards pretty close to his chest for now.

Lockdowns have disrupted one of Samsung’s biggest phone factories

Going back to work amid the COVID19 pandemic has been challenging. With some countries experiencing a second or even third wave, lockdowns have been imposed yet again to curb the spread.

This makes it impossible for companies to avoid any disruption to their businesses. They’re unable to run their offices, retail locations and factories at full capacity. It puts a massive drain on the business, but it can’t be avoided. Samsung is facing a similar situation in India.

The second wave has disrupted operations at the factory

India is in the midst of a brutal second COVID19 wave. Strict lockdowns have been imposed. There are also restrictions on the online sales of non-essential products. So even though demand exists for its phones, Samsung has been unable to sell as many units as it could have.

Samsung also uses India as a manufacturing base. It has one of its biggest mobile device manufacturing factories in the country. Production at the factory has reduced significantly due to the restrictions in place.

The company is currently opening its factory only three days a week. The factory doesn’t just make products to meet local demand. It exports to other markets as well. At this rate, it may only be able to meet global demand.

There’s only so much that Samsung can do at this time. It has to respect the restrictions that have been imposed. Breaking the chain of transmission is of the utmost importance. The faster that can happen, the sooner the lockdowns will lift.

Samsung hanged the Galaxy Book Pro at a bus stop Monday morning

If you happened to have crossed Fashion Street by London’s Spitalfields Market earlier this week, you might have witnessed one of Samsung’s most unique out-of-home advertisements yet. Monday morning, using thin wire, Samsung suspended the Galaxy Book Pro between two sheets of glass at a bus station for everyone to see. And for anyone who didn’t know what they were looking at, the ad explained that it’s the Galaxy Book Pro. A laptop that’s ‘Thin as a phone’ and ‘Powerful as a PC.’

The idea was to showcase just how thin the new Galaxy Book lineup is. Samsung’s new Galaxy Book Pro — the model that was used for the ad — measures 8.5mm in thickness when fully open, and indeed, it looks very slim inside the glass enclosure that’s usually reserved for flat posters.

Technically speaking, Samsung, in partnership with Clear Channel Advertising, made a 3D poster using an actual Galaxy Book Pro in an attempt to ‘challenge perceptions’ and demonstrate that an advertising space can be a product showcase.

The Galaxy Book Pro was replaced by a boring poster at lunchtime

Samsung’s initiative was unique and creative, but sadly, the Galaxy Book Pro wasn’t kept behind glass for very long. This one-of-a-kind showcase, as Samsung describes it, was taken down at lunchtime on the same day it was put up. The thin Galaxy Book Pro was replaced by an even thinner poster, mere hours after it made it in the spotlight.

Samsung didn’t explain why this creative ad — which came in as a surprise, to begin with — was taken down so shortly, but the company hopes that it brought a smile to people’s faces.

And in a way, it feels like bringing the ad down this early defeated the original purpose of challenging perceptions and turning an advertising space into a product showcase.

It was cool while it lasted, and hopefully, the Galaxy Book Pro left a good impression on the few people who saw it to want to buy it. Samsung is selling the Galaxy Book, the Galaxy Book Pro, and the Galaxy Book Pro 360 for the starting prices of £699, £1,099, and £1,199, respectively.
