Samsung Calendar update adds Google Meet integration, improves search

Samsung’s Calendar app is getting a new update with additional customization options, functionality improvements, and minor UI changes. Calendar version 12.2.04.8000 is now available for download from the Galaxy Store, but it doesn’t seem to be available everywhere. It appears to be rolling out in certain regions first, with Europe seemingly having priority.

The new Calendar version adds a Join button for events such as Google Meet video calls, and it moves the Search button from the contextual menu to the main screen right between the existing S Pen and current date buttons. The changelog also mentions some improvements to calendar management and support for more colors in My Calendar. Users can now choose from a dozen color options instead of just six.

Galaxy smartphone and tablet users can grab the latest version of Calendar from the Galaxy Store by accessing the “Updates” section in the side menu. Alternatively, they can access the Calendar settings screen and update the app from the “About Calendar” section.

If you can’t find the latest version (12.2.04.8000), it means that the update has yet to reach your location. The rollout is seemingly staggered, but sit tight and the update should reach your device sooner rather than later.

Unlocked Galaxy S10 units getting the July 2021 security update in the US

Samsung started rolling out the July 2021 security update to its smartphones and tablets in the last week of June. The international variants of the Galaxy S10 series were the first phones to get the update. Now, the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S10 have started receiving the latest security patch.

The Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+ have started getting a new update in the US. The latest update carries firmware version G97xU1UES5GUF2 and includes the July 2021 security patch. Samsung had mentioned in its documentation that its latest security patch fixes more than 20 privacy and security-related vulnerabilities. It should also fix any Android Auto bug that you may be facing.

If you are someone who uses the unlocked version of the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, or the Galaxy S10+ in the US, you can get the latest update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. Alternatively, you can flash the update manually after downloading the latest firmware file from our database.

The update is currently available on Bluegrass Cellular, Comcast, Nextech/C-spire, and Xfinity Mobile’s network in the US. More carrier networks could get the update over the next few days. The Galaxy S10 series was launched in 2019 with Android 9 on board, and it received the Android 10 update early last year and the Android 11 update earlier this year.

Samsung Internet beta gets another update to version 15

Samsung Internet beta is getting a new update days after version 15.0 came out. The recent release introduced an enhanced anti-tracking technology with better protection against fingerprint tracking, as well as back-forward cache support for an improved browsing experience. The latest update, however, isn’t as significant, so don’t hold your breath for new features to arrive this shortly after the release of version 15.0.1.12.

So, what’s the new release all about then? Well, Samsung Internet 15 beta version 15.0.1.22 is now rolling out to introduce bug fixes and stabilization patches. The changelog is scarce and all the changes appear to have happened under the hood. It’s a beta release, after all, and it’s supposed to address issues that may have surfaced since the launch of version 15 last week.

If you have used version 15.0.1.12 and experienced stability and performance issues over the past week or so, then give this version 15.0.1.22 a try.

Samsung Internet keeps getting better

Samsung Internet is one of the best mobile browsers around — if not the best –, but it is not perfect. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been necessary for new updates to be released. But there are plenty of reasons why Samsung Internet made a name for itself in recent years, and the list is only getting longer.

More importantly, Samsung hasn’t stopped testing new features through its beta program, and new updates for the live version are being released at a steady pace. Speaking of which, the company has yet to make Samsung Internet 15 available outside the beta program, but its eventual release draws near with each new bug fix and patch that’s being rolled out to the beta channel.

Galaxy M01s finally gets the Android 11 update with One UI 3.1

The Galaxy M01s is the latest Samsung smartphone to get the Android 11 update. The new software update brings One UI Core 3.1 to the smartphone along with the July 2021 security patch. The South Korean firm has started rolling out the new update in India, and other markets could get it over the next few weeks.

Samsung has released a new software update with firmware version M017FXXU2CUG1 to the Galaxy M01s. It brings a refreshed UI design, more consistent iconography, smoother animations and transitions, improved performance, and better security. The new software includes one-time permissions, auto permissions reset, chat bubbles, Conversations section in the notifications area, a dedicated media playback widget below quick setting toggles, and improved Digital Wellbeing.

The update also brings new lock screen widgets, more Dynamic Lockscreen categories, image and video call backgrounds, and a double-tap gesture to lock the screen. Samsung has also updated all the stock apps such as Samsung Gallery, Samsung Internet, Samsung Keyboard, and Samsung Messages. The company claims that it has improved the camera performance through better autofocus and auto exposure. Accessing smart home device controls has become easier.

If you are a Galaxy M01s user in India, you can either wait for the OTA update or check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also flash the newest firmware manually after downloading it from our firmware database, but the process only works if you have a Windows PC.

Galaxy Wearable app updated ahead of Galaxy Buds 2, Watch 4 launch

A new update to the Galaxy Wearable app is currently on its way to you, but as for its contents, Samsung’s keeping this particular release on the down-low. That is to say, the changelog is suspiciously missing, but the timing of the update does give us an idea or two about what might be going on here. What with the incoming debut of the Galaxy Buds 2 and Galaxy Watch 4.

Mind you, we’ve already made sure the new version of the app doesn’t pre-emptively list Samsung’s new upcoming products. Such a gaffe would not be without precedent, but Samsung seems to be more careful this time around. Well, at least on the front-end – the underlying code for Samsung’s wearable app did reveal some juicy Galaxy Buds 2 details over the weekend, after all.

New Galaxy wearables are coming soon

Regardless, you can count on the Galaxy Wearable app to remain the main bridge between your smartphone and the next generation of Samsung’s wearables. Both the Galaxy Buds 2 and Galaxy Watch 4 are pretty much guaranteed to support it and as we move closer to their release, more details on the matter are expected to follow.

Speaking of which, there have been some new developments regarding the commercial availability of both the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2. In fact, things have gotten pretty confusing on the release date front for both of these devices as of late. The only thing we can say with certainty right now is that Samsung is planning to launch its next-gen wearables come August 11th. What remains to be seen is how long of a pre-order period is the company planning to offer.

Samsung still unsure when to release its 2021 foldables, and it might be because of the iPhone 13

In case you’ve missed last week’s blunder by Amazon Canada, the Galaxy Watch 4 is expected to release on August 27th. Up until now, it was kind of implied this extends to the Galaxy Buds 2 and Samsung’s 2021 foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, that might not be the case, after all. At least not internationally, according to a newly emerged report from the Far East.

Namely, South Korean media report that Samsung is still deciding between the 20th and 27th as the dates for when to release its newest gadgets. Note that this is commercial availability we’re talking about, as all of the products are still expected to be unveiled on the 11th of August.

Still, seeing how Samsung’s home country is usually the one spearheading the release of any one of its devices, the fact that the company remains undecided on when exactly to release its summer portfolio could point to last-minute changes on the global stage, as well.

Korean sources claim the original plan was closer to the 20th. However, Samsung is now said to be considering the benefits of an extended pre-order period, thus leaning more toward the 27th, according to the report. The fact that numerous rival products are expected to launch around this date further complicates things. And ultimately, Samsung doesn’t want to get too close to the release of the iPhone 13 series, either, sources said. What to make out of all of this? We’ll likely know more in the days ahead.

Samsung’s next-gen The Wall microLED TV is thinner and has better colors

Samsung has launched the 2021 version of its The Wall microLED TV. It is not only thinner but also capable of displaying more accurate colors. Moreover, the company has also managed to implement a higher refresh rate for smoother motion handling. Samsung also says that the new modular The Wall TV is easier to install. The TV is available in select markets starting today.

The new version of The Wall is the industry’s first commercial display in its segment to feature 8K resolution. It can be configured horizontally to support up to 16K resolution (15,360 x 1,080 pixels). The new display can span up to a whopping 1,000 inches and its brightness can go as high as 1,600 nits. It features an improved Micro AI processor that analyzes and optimizes every frame in the video for better content upscaling (up to 8K resolution). The AI processor also helps in removing noise in the videos.

The new TV also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and is capable of displaying more accurate colors, thanks to Black Seal and Ultra Chroma technologies. Samsung says that the Black Seal technology blankets the screen with better uniformity for purer blacks. The Ultra Chroma technology creates narrower wavelengths to create colors that are twice as pure as conventional LCD displays. Other features of the TV include 20-bit processing, HDR10+, picture-by-picture (2 x 2), and the Eye Comfort mode (with TUV Rheinland certification).

The South Korean firm has also made the 2021 version of The Wall TV easier to install by implementing wireless docking connections and endless design. The commercial version of The Wall TV, which uses modular microLED panels, can be used in airports, shopping malls, retail stores, and outdoor advertising. It can be installed in various shapes, including ceiling, concave, convex, hanging, inclined, and L-type.
