The Galaxy S22 Ultra might not bring a massive camera update after all

Samsung is expected to stick to its new January launch window for the Galaxy S series, which means that the Galaxy S22 lineup should be less than half a year away. Make no mistake; rumors pertaining to the upcoming flagship — and especially its camera setup — have been floating around for a few months now, exploring various possible outcomes. But according to a new report from our colleagues at Galaxy Club, the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s camera setup might not be all that different from the Galaxy S21 Ultra, after all.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will reportedly be equipped with two telephoto sensors, each with a resolution of 10 megapixels. One telephoto shooter will be capable of 10x optical zoom, while the other might top out at 3x zoom. So, same as the predecessor.

Much of the same setup but perhaps with continuous zoom

The source seems confident that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be equipped with two 10MP telephoto sensors with up to 10x optical zoom, much like the Galaxy S21 Ultra before it. However, there’s no additional information regarding the inner workings of the periscope camera and whether or not Samsung improved the system.

We recently heard that the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s zoom camera could be capable of continuous zoom, with the internal lenses having the ability to move freely from anywhere between 3x and 10x zoom. This detail remains questionable, but there’s plenty of time left to learn more about the Galaxy S22 Ultra camera combo before Samsung spills the beans in January.

As for the standard Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22+, a separate rumor claims that both modes could have an improved triple-camera setup comprising a 50MP primary shooter, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a 12MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom.

Samsung Home loyalty program rewards loyal customers in India

Samsung has tied up with Flipkart to offer a unique loyalty program in India. Samsung Home offers loyal customers a 50% discount on the first EMI of their second Samsung purchase. This offer is applicable while purchasing the South Korean firm’s refrigerators, microwaves, televisions, and washing machines via Flipkart.

Those who have purchased a Samsung refrigerator, microwave, TV, or washing machine from Flipkart on or after July 28, 2021, can get this benefit if they purchase another Samsung device till September 20, 2021. However, the offer would be applicable only if the second purchase isn’t from the same category. It means that if you buy a TV, you can only get the loyalty program benefit if your second purchase is a refrigerator, microwave, or washing machine. Moreover, there should be a 15-day gap between the two purchases.

The maximum reward applicable for purchases below INR 30,000 is INR 1,250. The reward for the purchase value of INR 70,000 or above is INR 2,500. This reward is applicable on top of other cashback offers which can be availed using credit and debit cards from various banks. While the company wants to improve customer loyalty, there seem to be a lot of conditions to take the advantage of its new customer loyalty program.

90-day WhatsApp disappearing messages coming soon to Samsung phones

Despite being the most widely used messaging apps, WhatsApp hasn’t really been the app of choice for sensitive chats. It lacked the features that apps like Telegram provided. However, the Facebook-owned company has been making efforts to improve in this department.

WhatsApp recently introduced a disappearing messages feature where users could set specific chats to delete automatically after 7 days. It appears that the company is now working to add a 90-day option.

WhatsApp wants to facilitate your secret chats

With features like group chats, video and voice calls, WhatsApp Web and more, WhatsApp remains the most popular messaging app across the globe. Billions of people use it daily to keep in touch with their friends and family.

WhatsApp has recently been adding features that make the app more suitable for sensitive chats. Earlier this month, it introduced a new “View Once” option for photos and videos. Content sent using this option self destructs once it has been viewed by the recipient.

The disappearing messages feature in WhatsApp currently has a 7-day option only. WhatsApp has started working on a 24-hour option as well which would automatically delete chats after one day. Some users might find the 7-day option to be too limited. That’s why WhatsApp is now working on a 90-day option for its self-destructing chats.

This feature has been discovered by WABetaInfo in the WhatsApp 2.21.17.16 beta update. Like the 24-hour option, it hasn’t gone live just yet. Expect this feature to go through the beta and make its way to the stable release in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp has also launched a new feature that makes it very easy to transfer chats from iOS to an Android device. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 are the first devices to get it before WhatsApp makes it available to other devices.

Apple Pay demolishes Samsung Pay in the United States

Samsung Pay is one of the only payment portals supporting MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission). It has allowed the service to gain traction in many markets that do not have NFC-enabled point-of-sale terminals.

It also adds an extra layer of security by not transmitting any actual credit/debit card information wirelessly. Despite that, Samsung Pay has nothing on one of its competitors in what can be considered one of the most important markets in the world, the United States.

Samsung is to blame for Samsung Pay’s failure in the United States

A new report by Pulse Network shows that a mere 5% of consumers in the United States use Samsung Pay. Google Pay is worse off, at 3%. In contrast, a whopping 92% of the transactions were exclusive to Apple Pay. We can boil this glaring discrepancy to a range of factors, including ease of access, market share, and the raw number of smartphones sold.

In Q2, 2021, Apple has little over 53% of the total smartphone market share in the United States. Samsung came in second at 26%. Unfortunately, Google’s Pixel-branded smartphones didn’t even make the cut. If we look at these numbers a-la-carte, Samsung Pay should have performed better, but it didn’t. There are several reasons why it is the case.

For starters, just about every major (and minor) retailer in the United States accepts Apple Pay. Additionally, Apple’s tight-knit collaboration with retailers incentivizes people to use the service through rewards and perks. In the end, it mostly boils down to Apple’s excellent marketing prowess.

Samsung Pay’s feature disparity across its line of smartphones doesn’t help, either. For reasons unknown, the entire Galaxy S21 series in the United States ship without MST support. Wearable support is somewhat sketchy as well, whereas all Apple Watch models seamlessly support Apple Pay.

While Samsung Pay may be marginally more successful in other regions, Samsung has nobody but itself to blame in the United States. The non-existent marketing, combined with the feature disparities and wearable support (or the lack of thereof) is why the service will continue to be overshadowed by Apple’s objectively better offering.

‘This is the worst phone I’ve owned’, says new Galaxy Z Fold 3 ad

Samsung’s marketing efforts have been growing edgier in recent times. Cheekier, as well. The latest example illustrating as much is a Galaxy Z Fold 3 ad that highlights a testimony from a Galaxy Z Fold 2 owner claiming their current device is the “worst phone” they have ever owned.

Needless to say, the account is more than a bit sardonic. As it was posted in response to a January Reddit thread started by an OP desperate to be talked out of buying the then-latest foldable flagship from Samsung. The discussion that ensued has some pretty funny responses beyond the one Samsung decided to use to promote its new foldable powerhouse.

The author of the highlighted quote, user “flamo-damo”, did take the cake by explaining how they’re anxious to use the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in public because of the constant smirks and questions about the device they’re getting whenever they pull it out.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 messaging isn’t just cheeky – it’s bold and inviting

Samsung’s flagship game does have an off year every now and then, but its marketing has been world-class for a long time. Both in terms of production values, budgeting, and messaging. Granted, this turn toward more carefree PR might stem from the fact that the company’s biggest mobile earners haven’t been doing too well lately.

And given the still eye-watering price tags attached to its newest foldable devices, it’s unlikely that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or even the much more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 3 will do much to combat that trend in the near term. Fingers crossed the situation improves from 2022 onward.

Galaxy M32 5G specs revealed, will be launched in India next week

The Galaxy M32 5G is yet another upcoming mid-range 5G smartphone from Samsung. The device first surfaced two months ago, revealing its MediaTek processor, and then its support webpages appeared on Samsung’s website. Now, the South Korean firm has revealed its features and launch date for the Indian market.

Samsung has mentioned that it will launch the Galaxy M32 5G in India on August 25. The device will be available in the country through Amazon.in. The Galaxy M32 5G will come in two colors: black and blue. Its design looks extremely similar to the Galaxy A32 and the Galaxy A32 5G, featuring a 6.5-inch Infinity-V display and a quad-camera setup at the rear.

The Galaxy M32 5G features a 6.5-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display (probably with a 90Hz refresh rate), a MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor, and a 5,000mAh battery. Samsung has mentioned that the phone will get two major Android OS updates. Although the Indian market doesn’t have any 5G network, the phone brings support for 12 5G bands, which makes it future-proof.

At the front, the phone has a 13MP selfie camera. At the rear, it has a 48MP quad-camera setup with an LED flash. From the looks of it, two of the rear-facing cameras have small sensors. The phone comes with Samsung’s Knox security suite and a side-mounted fingerprint reader as well. The phone could have 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB storage, and a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy M32 5G could also feature a dual-SIM card slot, 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. It could be priced below INR 20,000 (around $268) in India, considering that the Galaxy M42 5G costs INR 20,999 (around $282) in the country.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Thom Browne Edition gets unboxed in a new video

Similar to last year, Samsung has made Thom Browne Editions of its new Galaxy Z series smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 Thom Browne Edition costs a whopping $3,449 in the US, and it comes with a matching Galaxy Z Fold 3 case, Galaxy Watch 4 LTE, Galaxy Buds 2, S Pen Pro, a 25W fast charging, and a Wireless Charger Trio. The package has now been unboxed in a new video.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 Thom Browne Edition unboxing video by YouTuber Danny Winget shows everything that comes inside the box. It includes the 512GB version of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. All the devices in this special edition box have the signature Thom Browne look with tri-colored stripes. The attention to detail is incredible, with even the outside and insides of the box featuring the same theme. There’s an introduction card that explains what the Thom Browne Edition is all about.

Every device and accessory inside the box has its own box, and everything is neatly arranged. The cases for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Buds 2, and the Galaxy Watch 4 straps are made using leather and come in white. The USB Type-C to USB Type-C cables and chargers in the box have the signature Thom Browne look as well.
