August 2021 security update reaches the Galaxy S10 series

The August 2021 security update has finally reached the Galaxy S10 series. Samsung started rolling out the August 2021 update in the last week of July, and the Galaxy A52 was the first phone to get it. Over the past few weeks, dozens of new devices have received the update. Today, the Galaxy A02s, Galaxy A31, and the Galaxy A71 5G got access to Samsung’s latest security patch as well.

Samsung has released a new software update to the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+ in Switzerland. The new update bears firmware version G97xFXXUCFUH3 and includes the August 2021 security patch. Samsung had mentioned earlier this month that its latest security patch fixes 40 vulnerabilities found in Galaxy devices. The new update could also contain device stability improvements and general bug fixes.

If you are a Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, or Galaxy S10+ user in Switzerland, you might receive the update soon. If you don’t want to wait for the update, you can check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware update for your smartphone from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy S10 series in March 2019 with Android 9 Pie. The phones received the Android 10-based One UI 2 update early last year and the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update earlier this year.

Galaxy A02s gets the August 2021 security update

Today, Samsung has released new software updates to multiple Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy A31, Galaxy A71 5G, and the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G. The company has now released a new security update to the Galaxy A02s, an entry-level smartphone that was launched earlier this year.

The Galaxy A02s has started getting a new software update with firmware version A025MUBU2BUH5 in Uruguay. This new software includes the August 2021 security patch, which fixes 40 privacy and security-related vulnerabilities. The update could roll out in other markets over the next few days.

If you own the Galaxy A02s in Uruguay, you might have received the new update already. If you haven’t received the update yet, you can check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also choose to flash the new firmware manually after downloading it from our firmware database.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A02s with Android 10-based One UI 2.5. The smartphone received the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update four months ago. The device might get one more Android OS update sometime next year.

Samsung might give up on its NXP Semiconductors acquisition

Despite some of its divisions not performing particularly well this year, Samsung, as a company, is still sitting on about $114 billion of cash that it can’t wait to spend. It has eyed up several industry bigwigs, such as Texas Instruments and NXP semiconductors. Acquiring the latter, it turns out, will not be as easy as Samsung envisioned.

NXP Semiconductors may be too big for Samsung to acquire easily

According to some sources familiar with the matter, Samsung is reconsidering its plan to acquire Eindhoven-based NXP Semiconductors. The company’s asking price has allegedly shot up to 80 trillion won ($68 billion). While Samsung does have the reserves to complete the purchase, additional costs could creep up due to potential legal issues. Samsung executive had the following to say about the matter.

“NXP Semiconductors was one company on Samsung’s shopping list, but the company is second-guessing its acquisition of NXP because NXP is too big.”

Given NXP’s dominant market position as a supplier for automotive chips, acquisitions of that scale will undoubtedly attract the attention of anti-trust bodies worldwide. Qualcomm tried to acquire NXP Semiconductors in the past, but the deal failed to go through due to the Chinese government’s disapproval. Then again, it might give the green light to Samsung given the close-knit relationship between the company and China.

Additionally, Nvidia’s acquisition of British chipmaker ARM has also hit several regulatory snags. It is very likely that Samsung will face such difficulties along the road, and the last thing it wants is to be embroiled in legal battles that can span for years, if not decades.

It is worth noting that Samsung hasn’t abandoned the thought of acquiring NXP Semiconductors altogether. The acquisition will go a long way towards bolstering Samsung’s position in the semiconductor industry and help bring its in-house automotive/5G/IoT offerings on par with the competition.

Even if the NXP plans get shelved, Samsung is in an excellent position to look at smaller companies to absorb. It has been some time since Samsung has acquired a company and the sheer amount of liquid cash it is sitting on makes the endeavour a whole lot easier.

The powerful new Galaxy A52s 5G is headed to India soon

Samsung already had a winner on its hands in the form of the Galaxy A52 5G. Last week, the company launched an even better mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A52s 5G. Apart from Europe and South Korea, it looks like the company could also launch the new smartphone in the Indian market.

It has been revealed that Samsung India has been sending Galaxy A52s 5G posters and other marketing material to retailers across the country. A leaked image also shows the company mentioning India with the Galaxy A52s 5G. The phone could be available in India in three colors: Awesome Black, Awesome Mint, and Awesome White.

While the phone’s Indian pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, it would help Samsung if it launches the Galaxy A52s 5G with a price tag of INR 30,000 (around $404) or lower. The smartphone will compete with the Motorola Edge 20, Realme GT Master Edition, Realme X7 Max 5G, and the Xiaomi Mi 11X. They all have either the Snapdragon 778G or the Snapdragon 870 processor and are priced below INR 30,000.

Galaxy A52s 5G specs

The Galaxy A52s 5G features a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is equipped with the Snapdragon 778G processor, 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. The phone has an in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. It is powered by a 4,500mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging.

Samsung has equipped its new mid-range smartphone with a 32MP selfie camera and a 64MP+12MP+5MP+5MP quad-camera setup at the rear. The 64MP camera has OIS and 4K video recording. Other features include 5G, a dual-SIM card slot, GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, a USB Type-C port, and a headphone jack.

Samsung phones will soon be able to make quick WhatsApp payments

There are a lot of people who use Samsung phones. Similarly, a lot of people use WhatsApp, over a billion people across the globe to be precise. Naturally, Samsung phone owners make up a big chunk of the app’s user base.

Aside from its robust existing features like group video calls and WhatsApp Web, the Facebook-owned cross-platform messaging app has been rolling out some great new features these days. Make faster WhatsApp payments with your Samsung phone

The WhatsApp Payments feature has been available for a while now. It enables users to send and receive money in their WhatsApp chats. The feature is available in selected markets. Users just have to add their bank account once in order to send and receive money through the app.

When users previously wanted to make a payment, they would have to open the chat action sheet in order to find the relevant option. WhatsApp is now going to provide users with a faster way of making payments. It has been spotted in the recent builds of WhatsApp for Android beta that a shortcut to send payments has been added right on the chat bar.

Once this update goes live, it will only take one tap for users to launch the payment window to send funds. This change has been spotted in version 2.21.17 of the beta app. It might be a few weeks before it rolls out to the stable version.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 owners will be the first to access the new WhatsApp feature that enables the effortless transfer of chat history from iOS and Android.

July 2021 security update rolling out to Galaxy Note 10+ 5G in the US

The international variants of the Galaxy Note 10 series received the July 2021 security update early last month. A few days later, the update was released to the unlocked variants of the Galaxy Note 10 in the US. Now, Samsung has started rolling out the July 2021 security update to the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G in the US.

Samsung has released a new software update to the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G on T-Mobile’s network. The new software has firmware version N976USQU5EUF1 and includes the July 2021 security patch. Samsung had revealed last month that the July 2021 update fixes some 20 vulnerabilities related to privacy and security.

If you are using the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G on T-Mobile’s network in the US, you can check for the new update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually. The update could be released on more networks over the next few days.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy Note 10 series two years ago with Android 9 Pie-based One UI. The Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 10+ received the Android 10-based One UI 2 update last year and the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update in December 2020.

Samsung’s Vietnam problem is about to get a whole lot worse

Vietnam’s former capital Ho Chi Minh city is all set to enter a new lockdown due to rising COVID-19 cases in the region. The new measures will disallow citizens from moving about freely and require commercial establishments to operate with limited staff. As a result, Samsung’s manufacturing facilities in the region are slated to take a hit.

Located at Saigon Hi-Tech Park, Samsung Electronics’ factory produces smart TVs and other household appliances. It employs over 7,000 employees and the products are shipped to a wide variety of markets, including the USA, Europe and Southeast Asia.

Samsung’s plant in Ho Chi Minh will be hit hard

Until now, Samsung had skirted around the restrictions by having workers sleep in the factory or at locations nearby. It is also worth noting that the plant had been operating at 30-40% capacity due to the aforementioned restrictions.

This drop in productivity couldn’t come at a worse time, as the festive season will be upon us soon. Samsung will incur losses worth 17 billion won ($145 million) every day the plant remains shut.

However, we can expect Samsung to negotiate some workaround with the Vietnamese authorities. In the past, Samsung Display employees got special access to enter the country amid tight lockdown restrictions. For the most part, Samsung-branded devices have been largely immune to the global semiconductor shortage, but the disruption in its Vietnam facilities could change that.

Samsung’s smartphone manufacturing facilities are unaffected at the moment, as they are located elsewhere. It should ensure a steady supply of smartphones for the foreseeable future. Besides, there are additional facilities in countries like India which can help pick up the slack should the plant in Vietnam face any difficulties.
