Flipkart may have sneakily revealed the exact Galaxy F42 5G release date

Flipkart is getting ready to launch the Big Billion Days sales event, and the website may have clued us in on the release of the Galaxy F42 5G. A promotional banner posted by Flipkart in anticipation of the “Big Bang Reveals” tells us that a new phone from Samsung is coming to India on September 29! The name of this upcoming device is unmentioned, but the chances of it being the Galaxy F42 5G are very high.

The Galaxy F42 5G will be a Flipkart-exclusive smartphone. Samsung hasn’t announced this yet, but it doesn’t have to. The answer is in the “F” moniker, which always has been a representative of a Flipkart-exclusive Galaxy smartphone. And since the Galaxy F42 5G is the only unannounced F-branded phone that we know of at the time of writing, it’s very tempting to assume that Flipkart and Samsung will launch it on September 29.

But, there’s more. This isn’t the first time we see hints of a September release for the Galaxy F42 5G, as the timeframe was leaked back in August. The end of September now draws near, and the Galaxy F42 5G seems to be coming with it. And since the phone will be a Flipkart exclusive for India, you can be almost certain it will be accompanied by various attractive deals and low EMI offers.

If you’re in India, stop! Don’t buy the Galaxy A52s 5G just yet

The Galaxy A52s 5G is an excellent phone. With the Snapdragon 778G under the hood, the A52s 5G is Samsung’s most powerful mid-range phone yet, and it combines all that power with all the features that make the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G two of the best mid-range Samsung phones ever.

But, if you’re an Indian customer, I would advise you not to buy the Galaxy A52s 5G just yet and wait for the Galaxy M52 5G to go fully official.

The reason is simple: Judging by the leaks and Samsung’s own teasers, it seems like the Galaxy M52 5G will offer pretty much all of the best Galaxy A52s 5G features, such as the Snapdragon 778G processor, 120Hz display, and 12-band 5G support. And, judging by existing Galaxy M series phones, the M52 5G will have a lower price tag than the A52s.

And it won’t be the first time that Samsung has launched a Galaxy A smartphone in India only to undercut it with a more aggressively priced Galaxy M series phone a few weeks later. A recent example is the Galaxy M32, which makes the Galaxy A32 feel completely unnecessary. Last year, the Galaxy M31s similarly dwarfed the Galaxy A51 in value and effectively turned the Galaxy A21s into a slap on the face.

We could see this pattern repeat with the Galaxy M52 5G and Galaxy A52s 5G. Now, the Galaxy M52 is not confirmed to have the exact same specs as the A52s. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of an in-display one, we don’t know if it has an optically stabilized main rear camera, stereo speakers, and an IP rating, and it’s also not known if the M52 5G will get three major OS upgrades.

And until we find out, I recommend holding on to your money if you were looking to purchase the Galaxy A52s 5G. Make an informed decision once all the information is out, which won’t take long – the M52 5G is currently set to launch on September 28. Snapdragon Galaxy S22 loses to Exynos model in early benchmark

The upcoming Galaxy S22 seemingly got benchmarked online again, and the Qualcomm-powered variant did the honors this time around. The Galaxy S22+ equipped with the Exynos 2200 chipset popped up in benchmarks last week, and it turns out that the Snapdragon model wasn’t far behind.

The base Galaxy S22 variant is listed at Geekbench with a Snapdragon 895 chipset in tow and 8GB of RAM. The chipset has one 3.0GHz CPU core, three 2.5GHz cores, and four energy-efficient cores clocked at 1.79GHz. And, of course, the device runs Android 12, which is what the Galaxy S22 series will ship with early next year.

A couple of possible explanations for the abysmal benchmark results

The Galaxy S22 equipped with the Snapdragon 895 chipset performed dreadfully in this particular Geekbench test run. It scored a lot less than the Exynos 2200 model — by more than half — in both single and multi-core tests. But there might be a few explanations for this.

The first that comes to mind is that the benchmark at hand may have been fabricated. It could be a fake entry, and the device that was benchmarked isn’t actually the Galaxy S22 with the Snapdragon 895 chipset in tow. This isn’t beyond the realm of possibility, so feel free to remain skeptical.

By the way, the Snapdragon 895 SoC is rumored to be manufactured by Samsung on a 4nm chip fabrication process, and could be launched later this year.

Other feasible explanations could be that the Galaxy S22 and the Snapdragon 895 SoC are not yet fully optimized — even less so than the Exynos 2200 models — or that the device may have been benchmarked in extreme battery-saving modes. Therefore, these early test results would hardly reflect the phone’s real-world performance levels at launch. Besides, the Exynos 2200 model didn’t set a very high bar either, presumably for the same reasons.

Samsung may plan to introduce the Galaxy S22 series in January, same as it did with the Galaxy S21 earlier this year. New Galaxy Z Fold 3 drop test breaks our hearts, but not the phone

There’s nothing quite like destroying an $1,800 phone to get the Internet going. Cue this new drop test video from PhoneBuff starring the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and a lot of free-falling. Be warned: it’s going to make you nauseous, especially if you happen to own Samsung’s newest flagship.

On the bright side, the video re-confirms what previous durability tests already implied: the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a seriously impressive engineering feat. Not least because of how incredibly durable its hinge proved to be.

Striking the right balance between durability and accessibility was presumably one of the biggest engineering challenges in designing that central piece of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. But by now, it’s safe to brand Samsung’s efforts a success.

Could the Galaxy Z Fold 4 outmatch this level of durability?

Case in point: even though the 6.2-inch cover display of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 cracked on its second drop, the hinge itself refused to loosen up. Keeping the flagship’s main display safe and sound throughout the remainder of the proceedings.

Another highlight-worthy result has to do with how the cover display took its beatings like a champ, remaining fully functional even as cracks started showing up all over the place. In effect, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 survived ten deliberately dangerous drops in total. While most of them left a mark on the device (and our hearts), none managed to kill either one of its displays. Some dead pixels and cracked glass were the worst of the visible wear-and-tear.

Ultimately, this is another significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 2 – which wasn’t a badly built device, by any means. What remains to be seen is how can Samsung reasonably improve upon this level of durability next year. Assuming that’s even possible.

Samsung switching to 50MP cameras for its cheap Galaxy A phones?

Samsung is expected to make 5G smartphones cheaper than ever before with the Galaxy A13 5G. We first came to know the Galaxy A13 5G is in development back in late August, but details on its specifications were non-existent at the time. That’s no longer the case thanks to a report from GalaxyClub.

The Galaxy A13 5G reportedly has a 50MP main camera sensor, which is rather interesting. We’ve seen either 48MP or 64MP rear cameras on Samsung’s mid-range phones over the last few years, and the company’s 50MP sensors are so new that they are yet to be used in any of its own devices.

It’s not known which sensor the Galaxy A13 5G will use, but we can assume that it will not offer anything close to the performance of the 50MP camera that’s expected to be present on the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+.

2022 Galaxy A series could focus on improved cameras across the board

The switch to a 50MP camera sensor for the more affordable Galaxy A series phones may not be the only thing Samsung is doing to shake up the mid-range segment. We heard recently that the Galaxy A73 could feature a 108MP main camera, and all 2022 Galaxy A devices are rumored to support optical image stabilization.

Coming back to the Galaxy A13 5G, today’s report also reveals the battery capacity of the device: 5,000 mAh. And that’s pretty much it as far as information about this phone is concerned, though we will likely hear more in the coming weeks and months as we move closer to its launch, which may or may not happen sometime later this year.

Telegram’s feature creep continues with the latest update

After gaining lots of new users ever since WhatsApp’s new privacy policy created havoc in the instant messaging app market, Telegram is doing all it can to make sure those users stick with it by adding new features to the app pretty much every month.

Back in August, Telegram added features such as the ability to have virtually unlimited number of people join your livestreams, download trending sticker packs, new animated emojis, and unread comment counters on channels. This week, Telegram has released another update for the app that makes the user experience better.

Telegram gets better… just like it did last month, and the one before that

Personalization is getting a major boost with Telegram version 8.0.1. The app now allows you to change themes for individual chats, with eight theme options to choose from (and more on the way in future updates). You can also send interactive emoji in chats – clicking on interactive emojis, such as a thumbs up or heart, will “unleash a fullscreen effect,” as Telegram puts it.

Telegram is also bringing read receipts for messages inside groups on par with what you get in WhatsApp. Two tick marks next to a message tell you if at least one other member has read your message, and you can now tap a message to see which group members have seen it.

Finally, Telegram is further improving the live streaming capabilities of the app. Group admins can now record live streams and video chats and share them in the group for later viewing by members who may have missed the live version. There’s the option to record both video and audio or just audio, and the video’s orientation (portrait or landscape) can be selected, as well.
