Carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 2 gets October 2021 security update in the US

Samsung is on a roll today. The South Korean firm has released new software updates to dozens of smartphones and tablets, including the Galaxy A01, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A52s 5G, Galaxy Note 10 series, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The latest Galaxy device to get the new security update is the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 (SM-F916U) is getting the October 2021 security update in the US. The update, which comes with firmware version F916USQS2EUI3, is rolling out to devices on T-Mobile’s network in the US. Apart from fixing over 60 vulnerabilities related to user privacy and data security, the update might also include device stability improvements and general bug fixes.

If you are a Galaxy Z Fold 2 user on T-Mobile’s network, you might have already received the update. If you haven’t received it yet, you can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

More carriers could roll out this security update over the next few days. Samsung had launched the Galaxy Z Fold 2 last year with Android 10-based One UI 2.5. Earlier this year, the foldable smartphone received the Android 11-based One UI 3 update.

Galaxy A01 receives the October 2021 security update

Over the past few weeks, Samsung has released the October 2021 security update to various Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Today, the company has updated the Galaxy A01 with its latest security patch, making it more secure and reliable.

The Galaxy A01 is getting a new software update in Russia. The update, which comes with firmware version A015FXXU5BUJ1, includes the October 2021 security patch. Samsung had revealed earlier this month that the October patch fixes for over 60 vulnerabilities found in Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The update could also include device stability improvements and general bug fixes.

If you are a Galaxy A01 user in Russia, you can download the latest software update for your smartphone by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Galaxy A52s, Samsung’s best mid-range phone, gets latest security update

The October security update has been rolling out to Galaxy devices at a surprising pace even as Samsung is dedicating its time to getting Android 12 and One UI 4.0 ready for the general public before 2022, and today, Samsung’s best mid-range phone is getting in on the action.

The Galaxy A52s 5G is picking up the October security update in a handful of markets this week, including Switzerland, Bulgaria, and Germany. The update comes with firmware version A528BXXU1AUI8 and should include more than just the latest security fixes, but we don’t currently have a changelog so it’s unclear what else is in there.

That said, we can assume that there’s nothing in the way of major new features included in the update. Those will arrive with One UI 4.0 and Android 12, which will be the first major OS upgrade for the Galaxy A52s and is expected to arrive sometime next year for Samsung’s mid-range phones.

To check if your Galaxy A52s has an update available, open its Settings app, select Software update, and tap Download and install. If you’re in one of the markets where the update has rolled out, you can manually upgrade your phone using firmware files that you can download from our archive.

Galaxy A20 picks up October 2021 security update in the US

Samsung had released the Android 11-based One UI 3 update to the unlocked version of the Galaxy A20 in the US. Today, the company has started rolling out the October 2021 security update to the smartphone. The latest update is currently available on Sprint and T-Mobile networks in the US.

The latest software update for the unlocked version of the Galaxy A20 has firmware version A205USQSABUJ1. It includes the October 2021 security patch, which according to Samsung, fixes more than 60 vulnerabilities related to data security and user privacy. The update could also include general bug fixes and device stability improvements.

If you are a Galaxy A20 (SM-A205U) user in the US, you might have already received a notification of the new software update. If you haven’t received the update yet, you can check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A20 in the first half of 2019 with Android 9-based One UI. The smartphone received the Android 10-based One UI 2 update last year and the Android 11-based One UI 3 update a couple of months ago.

Samsung Developer Conference 2021 keynote speakers revealed

With only a week remaining until Samsung Developer Conference 2021 takes place, the company has already solidified its list of speakers at the event. Key names include a number of its C-suite executives, including former smartphone chief DJ Koh. Koh, whom one Roh Tae-moon succeeded early last year, will hold the opening keynote of SDC 2021.

SmartThings VP Samantha Osborne and Mobile Software R&D EVP Janghyun Yoon are both scheduled to hold their own panels. As is Jeongsook Lee, the VP of the Office of Customer Experience. Visual Display Software SVP Yongjae Kim and Samsung Research America’s Visual Solutions Lab VP, Bill Mandel, have been confirmed to feature at the event, as well.

Who better to talk strategy but Samsung’s strategy makers?

The senior ranks won’t be appearing just for show. As was the case with previous editions of the show, platform strategy and ecosystem maturity will be some of the key topics at the next iteration of Samsung Developer Conference. So, who better to talk strategy but strategy makers?

Anyone tuning in live will have a chance to win the Galaxy Z Flip 3 from the official SDC website. The event is scheduled to start next Tuesday, at 10am PT / 7pm CET / 10:30pm IST.

As a reminder, this is going to be the first time in over two years that a Samsung Developer Conference is taking place, at all. Last year, Samsung postponed and eventually canceled its dev-specific event due to public health considerations. The reasoning, naturally, had everything to do with the still-ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, 2020 was the first year in which an SDC didn’t take place in over half a decade.

Samsung joins hands with Stellantis to make batteries for electric vehicles

Samsung SDI, a Samsung Group firm, is among the biggest battery makers in the world. It supplies batteries for electric vehicles from companies like Hyundai and Rivian. It has now signed a joint venture with global carmaker Stellantis to make batteries for its electric cars across various brands.

No details have been revealed regarding the size of the deal, but experts claim that it could be worth a few billion dollars. It was recently reported that Samsung SDI and Stellantis had signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) to build a battery production plant in the US. Stellantis is the result of a merger of two big automobile brands: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and PSA Groupe.

Stellantis is being seen as a strong partner in the EV space since it owns various car brands, including Citroen, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Jeep, and Maserati. The company has announced that it will invest around $34.9 billion by 2025 for the electrification of its cars and software development.

Samsung SDI currently has three battery plants, one each in China, Hungary, and South Korea. It competes with the likes of LG Energy, SK On, Panasonic, CATL, and BYD.
