Galaxy Note 20 One UI 4.0 Beta Program is now live, starting with the UK

After releasing the One UI 4.0 Beta update to the Galaxy S20 series in the UK and the US, Samsung has opened the One UI Beta Program for the Galaxy Note 20. The beta program is currently available in the UK, and it could soon go live in other markets, including China, Germany, India, South Korea, and the US.

Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra owners in the UK who are interested in beta-testing the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update can enroll themselves into the program by installing the Samsung Members app, logging in using their Samsung account, and tapping on the One UI Beta Program banner on the home page. Samsung might soon open the One UI 4.0 Beta Program for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Since this is a beta update, there could be a lot of bugs and performance issues. We would advise backing up all the important data before installing this huge update on your smartphone, so if anything goes wrong, you can go back to the stable software and restore your data.

One UI 4.0 features and changelog

One UI 4.0 brings a lot of new features, revamped UI design, and improved privacy and security. It brings Material You-inspired color themes that you can use to customize the color palette of your smartphone based on the home screen wallpaper. It also brings improved stock apps, including Samsung Internet and Samsung Keyboard.

Samsung has also included new widgets, an improved widget design language, and even a new style for the widget picker. The new software lets you do more directly from the lock screen, including switching audio output, recording voice using the new widget, and checking calendar events. The camera app’s UI design has been simplified. Samsung has also enabled the Portrait Mode for pets, extended Single Take’s capture time limit, and enhanced the document scanning.

Other apps and features like Always-On Display, AR Emoji, Bixby, Bixby Routines, Calendar, Dark Mode, Device Care, Gallery, Image Editor, My Files, and Samsung Health have been improved and redesigned. Samsung has also improved the design and usability of the notifications shade, picture-in-picture, search, and the sharing menu. Accessibility-related features have been enhanced as well.

The new software also offers various tools to check your privacy. With Permissions Usage, you can see when each app accesses sensitive information such as camera, location, and microphone. One UI 4.0 also lets you set which apps can get your approximate location and which ones can access your exact location. It also alerts you when an app accesses information from the clipboard. You can cut off camera and mic access instantly using quick setting toggles.

Samsung could unveil new Exynos chipset on November 19

Samsung usually announces its flagship Exynos chipset a few weeks before unveiling its new Galaxy S series smartphone. This year, the company is expected to launch the Exynos 2200 chipset, the first Exynos processor with an AMD GPU. Today, the company hinted towards the announcement date for its next Exynos flagship.

The South Korean firm published a cryptic Instagram post via its Samsung Exynos account. The company mentioned that gaming started with arcade games and has come a long way to current-generation games with high-end graphics. The company then goes on to say that it wants to show “what entertainment will look like in the future.” The last image in the post says, “Everything changes on November 19, 2021.”

Samsung may unveil a new Exynos processor on November 19. Since the company discussed the future of gaming graphics in its post, Samsung may unveil the Exynos 2200 chipset since its AMD RDNA2-based Radeon Mobile GPU supports high-end gaming features like ray tracing and VRS (variable-rate shading). The company might also unveil a mid-range chipset such as the Exynos 1250.

Although the company didn’t reveal the specifications of the Exynos 2200, various rumors claim that it is made using Samsung Foundry’s 4nm LPE and that it features one Cortex-X2 CPU core, three Cortex-A710 CPU cores, and four Cortex-A510 CPU cores. It is expected to feature an AMD GPU, support for 144Hz displays, an integrated 5G modem, and the latest versions of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Samsung unveils world’s first LPDDR5X DRAM chip, could be used in Galaxy S22

Samsung, the world’s biggest memory chip maker, has announced that it has developed the world’s first LPDDR5X DRAM chip. The company claims that it offers 1.3x faster performance and 20% lower power consumption when compared to LPDDR5 DRAM.

The South Korean firm said in its press release that its new memory chip is fabricated using the 14nm process and each chip has a capacity of 16Gb. Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM chip’s data transfer speed is 8.5Gbps, which is 1.3x faster compared to LPDDR5’s 6.4Gbps speed. Each memory package can have a maximum of 64GB capacity.

This new DRAM chip could be used in smartphones, tablets, laptops, and even AR/MR/VR headsets. It is possible that Samsung will use this new memory chip in the upcoming Galaxy S22 series. The previous-generation memory chip, based on the LPDDR5 technology, was used in the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy S21 series.

SangJoon Hwang, Senior Vice President and Head of the DRAM Design Team at Samsung Electronics, said, “In recent years, hyperconnected market segments such as AI, augmented reality (AR) and the metaverse, which rely on extremely fast large-scale data processing, have been rapidly expanding. Our LPDDR5X will broaden the use of high-performance, low-power memory beyond smartphones and bring new capabilities to AI-based edge applications like servers and even automobiles.”

One UI 4.0 beta update released to the Galaxy S20 in the US

It was revealed yesterday that Samsung will soon open the One UI 4.0 beta program for the Galaxy S20 series. Today, the South Korean firm has announced that interested Galaxy S20 owners in the US can start beta-testing the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update.

Right now, the One UI 4.0 beta program is only open for unlocked variants of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra in the US. Hopefully, the beta program will soon be expanded to the carrier-locked variants of these high-end smartphones. If you want to install this update on your Galaxy S20 series smartphone, you’ll have to install the Samsung Members app, log in using your Samsung account, and then click on the One UI Beta Programme banner on the app’s home page.

Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update brings a revamped UI design, complete with Google’s Material You-inspired color themes. The new software also brings more widgets with a newer design, an updated widget picker menu, updated stock apps, improved Samsung Internet and Samsung Keyboard apps, and better privacy and security.

It is possible that Samsung will soon release the One UI 4.0 beta update for the Galaxy S20 series in other markets, including China, Germany, India, South Korea, and the UK.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index recently surveyed nearly 8,000 consumers in the USA who have purchased home appliances from leading manufacturers and determined that there’s no better company than Samsung Electronics to win the ACSI 2021 Award.

Samsung Electronics is the highest-selling consumer electronics brand in the USA, but high sales figures aren’t always a reflection of a high-quality product. In Samsung’s case, however, they are.

People buy Samsung because they’re happy with the brand

Throughout the ACSI Household Appliance and Electronics Study that surveyed nearly 8,000 customers in the USA, Samsung earned the highest ranking in the Home Appliance Reliability and Customer Service categories. Of course, Samsung accepted the award and issued a press release for the occasions. The company is “honored to be recognized by the 2021 ASCI Survey as the leading home appliance brand for reliability and customer satisfaction.”

Samsung is already offering various home appliances at discounted prices ahead of Black Friday, and it will likely continue launching various deals throughout the remainder of the year. If you want to buy into Samsung’s device ecosystem and see what the hype is all about, now seems to be a great time to do it.

Samsung Pay will soon cease to support Boost QR payments

Boost QR support will be going away from Samsung Pay next week, and the company recently began notifying Pay customers in Malaysia about the service’s closure. The Samsung Pay app will receive a mandatory update on November 15, after which Boost QR payments will no longer be available.

Samsung added support for Boost QR to Samsung Pay in Malaysia a year and a half ago. The idea was to give Boost QR customers and Samsung Pay users a way to bring these platforms together and perform cashless payments through Boost QR code scanning without the need for NFC or MST. The solution is obviously not as elegant as tapping your phone onto a payment terminal to transfer cash, but it works for what it is.

Samsung Pay customers can keep making Boost QR for another week

Boost QR will be removed from Samsung Pay next week, and the company hasn’t said much about why this change is happening. Perhaps the feature was not used by enough Samsung Pay customers to justify keeping it.

Whatever the case may be, existing Samsung Pay users in Malaysia can continue making Boost QR cashless payments until next week. However, people who have yet to use Boost QR in conjunction with Samsung Pay can no longer sign up to use this feature.

Galaxy M52 5G keeps going live in more markets and Vietnam’s the latest

Samsung is launching the Galaxy M52 5G in more markets gradually, and the company announced that starting today — November 8 — the smartphone is available for purchase online in Vietnam. To mark the occasion, the company will be selling the phone at a discount for a limited time and give buyers a chance to earn Samsung Reward points.

Samsung will be selling the Galaxy M52 5G in Vietnam for VND 8,990,289 ($397) until the end of November. From next month, the phone will be offered for its intended retail price of VND 9,690,000 ($427). In addition, customers who buy the phone before November 30 will get 5% back on their next Samsung purchase in Reward points.

A mid-range performer with 120Hz display refresh rate

Customers that want raw performance, good build quality, great cameras, decent battery life with 25W fast charging capabilities, and a 120Hz AMOLED display will find the Galaxy M52 5G to be a sound proposition. However, the phone had to make some concessions, so it lacks stereo speakers, an IP rating, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

On the plus side, the Galaxy M52 5G offers a mostly complete One UI experience and benefits from features such as Knox security and Samsung Pay through NFC.
