New Galaxy Note 20 One UI 4.0 beta update for the UK fixes 120Hz bug

The Galaxy Note 20 series is getting another One UI 4.0 beta update in the UK. The Android 12 beta program kicked off for the S Pen flagship a couple of weeks ago, and the latest update fixes a handful of issues, including a bug related to the display’s adaptive refresh rate. The December 2021 security patch, which Samsung hasn’t detailed yet, accompanies the new firmware.

The changelog for the latest Galaxy Note 20 One UI 4.0 beta build mentions fixes related to Quick Share icons, the Clear View Display Cover, and the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. We are aware of the screen refresh rate issues experienced by Galaxy S21 customers in the United States following the live One UI 4.0 update, although we haven’t heard similar stories from Galaxy Note 20 One UI 4.0 beta testers in the UK. It’s unclear if these 120Hz issues are related, but regardless, Samsung’s already addressing them for Galaxy Note 20 beta builds, and will release a fix for the Galaxy S21 soon.

In addition to these fixes, the update should improve search results in messaging apps and claims to increase the phone’s overall performance with a smoother framerate. For reference, the latest One UI 4.0 beta update for the Galaxy Note 20 in the UK has firmware version “ZUKA.”

Deezer announces official app for Samsung Smart TVs

Although Deezer isn’t nearly as much a household name such as Spotify/Apple Music, the music streaming service has carved a niche for itself in the market. Back in 2018, Deezer’s lossless audio library was available for Samsung audio products. Now, there’s a dedicated Deezer app for Samsung Smart TVs.

A new blog post on Deezer’s official website has announced that the app will be available for Samsung Smart TV owners in over 120 countries. It includes all the features found on its mobile versions, such as curated mixes, suggestions and a customizable library. The app can also display lyrics on-screen in real-time.

Additionally, users with a Deezer Hi-Fi subscription can use their Samsung Smart TVs to listen to high-fidelity FLAC music. There’s a dedicated podcast category as well, which is divided into sub-genres to make finding content easier. Deezer has also made it easier for new users to sign up directly via their TVs.

Deezer is currently available in these countries. If yours isn’t on the list, chances are, you might not be able to install the Deezer app on your Samsung Smart TV and will have to wait for the service to be available in your region.

Official Samsung Black Friday 2021 deals offer great discounts

Black Friday is a great time to shop online. There are plenty of deals to be had. With the festive season fast approaching, you might want to pick up a few gifts yourself. Those who prefer the Galaxy Z Fold 3 can get the device for $250 off. Samsung is throwing in a free pair of the new Galaxy Buds 2 with every purchase. The company is also promising the highest online instant trade-in values of up to $900 and also providing a $100 eCertificate that can be used to buy other products from its online store.

Galaxy Z Flip 3 customers get a $100 discount and a free pair of the Galaxy Buds 2 as well. Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition gets a $150 discount with free Galaxy Buds 2. Samsung is also offering enhanced trade in values of up to $600 for these devices.

Galaxy Watch 4 models are $50 off while the Galaxy Buds Pro, Buds Live and Buds 2 get a $50, $70 and $30 discount respectively. The Samsung Black Friday 2021 deals also offer up to $200 of the Galaxy Tab S7 series and up to $300 off with additional Samsung credit on many of its Galaxy Book notebooks.

All of these Samsung Black Friday 2021 deals are available for customers in the United States. You might want to check with the local Samsung site in your market for deals. Chances are there will be some that you can take advantage of even if you’re not in the US. These deals are available until December 5, 2021.

Qualcomm and Microsoft exclusivity deal ending soon, will open opportunities for Samsung

It was reported a few months ago that Samsung is working on more powerful Exynos processors for laptops and Chromebooks. While Chromebooks use a variety of ARM-based processors from multiple chipset vendors, ARM-based Windows laptops only feature Qualcomm chipsets, and there could be a reason for that.

According to a report from XDA Developers, Microsoft and Qualcomm had an exclusive deal that only allowed Qualcomm chipsets to run Windows on ARM. Apparently, that was because the two companies invested in making Windows on ARM possible. That exclusive deal is reportedly “set to expire soon,” and there could be an opportunity for other chipset manufacturers to enter the Windows on ARM segment.

MediaTek recently expressed interest in the Windows laptops segment but made it clear that they don’t have any immediate plans. Once Qualcomm’s exclusive deal ends, Samsung could use the opportunity to make higher-end Exynos chipsets for Windows laptops. Probably, it could even make its own Galaxy Book-series laptop with an Exynos processor, complete with 5G cellular connectivity.

After Apple launched MacBooks powered by M1 series ARM processors, consumers have had a lot of interest in ARM-powered laptops. Tests have shown that Apple’s M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max processors offer faster performance and higher power efficiency than most other x86/x64 laptop processors. Qualcomm is expected to launch similar ARM-based processors (with the Nuvia acquisition) sometime next year.

Why Android 12 is extra special for Samsung Galaxy smartphones

The release of a major new version of Android is an exciting occasion for many of us. It’s a yearly event that we all look forward to, as it breathes new life into our smartphones and brings with it many new features and improvements.

Android 12 is no different, but did you know that this year’s big Android release is extra special for users of Samsung Galaxy devices? It certainly is: This is the first time any of Samsung’s Galaxy phones or tablets will be receiving a third major OS upgrade.

Samsung announced last year that it would start providing three years of OS upgrades to all of its flagships and some of its mid-range smartphones. The new software update policy didn’t just apply to devices set to launch after the policy’s announcement, though. Samsung also included 2019 devices like the Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Fold, and the Galaxy A51 in the list.

And Android 12 is when we will see the policy go into full effect: The Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 lineups will be the first ever from Samsung to get a third major Android OS upgrade. And the update may not be far, either. Both devices (or at least their 5G variants) have already been spotted running Android 12, and Samsung is targeting a January rollout in many markets.

Whether or not Samsung manages to stick to its schedule notwithstanding, the point is that we will finally see Samsung’s industry-defining update promise in action with Android 12, and that’s got us excited. Here’s hoping we see Samsung give four major OS upgrades to some of its devices in the future, though, because the competition is slowly but surely catching up.

Your Samsung smartphone could soon display iMessage reactions properly

Despite being a feature-rich messaging app, Samsung Messages is no longer the default SMS app for many newly-released Galaxy smartphones (running One UI 3.1 or newer out of the box). Instead, these devices come with Google Messages as their default SMS client. The app is now finally getting a useful feature that isn’t available on Samsung Messages yet.

The folks over at 9t05Google have discovered that the latest beta version of Google Messages can properly display iMessage reactions when conversing with iPhone users. It shows the respective emojis towards the corner of the message, similar to how it appears on the Messages app on an iPhone. Earlier, these reactions would appear in the form of a text message saying “Liked [Your Message]” or “Laughed at [Your Message].”

Since Apple’s iMessages are nothing but SMS messages with additional information, Google Message is able to finally translate that extra information into proper emojis. So, once you get this feature on your Samsung smartphone sometime in the future, you can chat with your friends who have an iPhone without the chat thread containing additional texts for iMessage reactions.

Latest Galaxy Z Flip 3, Z Fold 3 One UI 4.0 beta update includes December 2021 security patch

Two days ago, Samsung released the third beta version of One UI 4.0 to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The update fixed multiple bugs, including the one that caused the screen to stutter and the one that caused brightness issues. It has now been revealed that the update also includes the latest security patch.

The latest One UI 4.0 beta build, which comes with a firmware version ending ZUKG, brings along the December 2021 security patch. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 running One UI 4.0 Beta are the first smartphones to receive the December 2021 security update. Samsung hasn’t revealed which vulnerabilities it has fixed with the new security patch, but we expect that to be revealed in the first half of next month.

The Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update brings a revamped UI design, smoother animations and transitions, Material You-inspired Color Palette feature, and improved privacy and security. The update also includes new widget styles, additional widgets, and a new widget picker UI. Samsung has also improved all of its stock apps, including Samsung Internet and Samsung Keyboard.

The stable version of One UI 4.0 has already been released to the Galaxy S21 series in various markets, and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 could get a stable update sometime next month.
