Unlocked Galaxy S6 going for $100 less on eBay

There are multiple ways for you to purchase one of Samsung’s current flagship devices if you’re in the United States, you can pick one up on installments from a mobile carrier or get it on a conventional service contract. You can even buy it outright if you’re not worried about spending that much money at once. Often eBay plays host to some really good deals that might interest you if you’re looking to purchase the phone outright, and eBay has one right now for the Galaxy S6.

Carriers in the United States are selling the 32GB Galaxy S6 outright for north of $600 but you can head on over to eBay right now and pick one up for $499.99, which is the cheapest price yet for the unlocked variant of this smartphone. You’ll get the G920i variant which is compatible with GSM and LTE networks, it has all the required bands to work on AT&T and T-Mobile. Another advantage of purchasing the handset through this deal is that you can get one in blue aside from gold, white and black. Carriers in the US don’t offer the Galaxy S6 in blue. If you’d rather have the Galaxy S6 edge instead there’s a pretty good deal on that as well.

Samsung sees 2.3% decline in Q2 market share

IDC has released its latest report on the state of the mobile industry for Q2 2015 which it then compares with the same time last year, it measures the number of units shipped and the manufacturer’s current overall market share. The report shows that overall the mobile industry saw an 11.6% year-over-year increase in Q2 2015 with over 337 million units being shipped by the end of the quarter.

Despite the fact that Samsung retains its position as the biggest smartphone vendor in the world the IDC registered a 2.3% decline in the company’s market share by the end of Q2 2015. The company’s overall marketshare declined from 24.8% in Q2 2014 to 21.7% in Q2 2015. A drop was also registered in shipment volumes with 73.2 million units for Q2 2015 as opposed to 74.9 million units during the same period last year. IDC says that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge arrived with mixed results as problems were compounded by supply shortages for the edge variant, all eyes are now on the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ to see if the handsets can improve Samsung’s fortunes in the next quarter.

AT&T releases a minor update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4

No, it’s not Android 5.1. That anticipated update hasn’t shown up for the device anywhere except Russia yet, and today’s update for the AT&T model is a minor one that keeps the Android version on 5.0.1. The OTA is a 142 MB download (the firmware version is N910AUCU2COC5) and brings enhancements to Find My Mobile, Reactivation Lock, and “Android OS security.” Yep, that’s about it.

The update should be showing up on your Galaxy Note 4 of its own accord in the next couple of days, but you can also try to make it show up instantly by mashing the Check now button in the Settings » About device » Software updates menu on the phone. A Wi-Fi network is needed for downloading the update for now, so make sure you connect to one before you start waiting for that OTA notification.

Tizen TV gets four new information services from Samsung

Samsung’s Smart TV just got four additional real-time information services which greatly expand the Tizen knowledge center. The information is categorized in sports, news, entertainment and social and it’s all displayed on the right side of the window in a simple menu.

As we’ve recently seen, Samsung is looking to expand its Tizen software by constructing an IoS to interconnect them. You can currently access these four information services with your remote control but if the Internet of Things framework is finished, you will be able to access them with your phone as well.

It’s a pretty good move for Samsung’s Tizen-based Smart TV because it allows you to look up data without having to do any over-complicated task. All you have to do is open a panel, and the news or sport info is presented to you in a friendly format. The box in which the information is displayed is also transparent, so it won’t bother you while you’re watching something else.

What do you think about this new update? Let us know by leaving a comment.

Leaked photos show off Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ boot screens

We’re just a couple of weeks away from Samsung’s official announcement for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+, multiple leaked photos of both devices have already been floating on the internet. Several new leaked photos have appeared online today claiming to show the boot screens of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+. Do keep in mind though that there’s always a possibility that these boot screens were fabricated but that they don’t appear to show anything out of the ordinary.

The pictures also reveal the design of both devices, there’s nothing surprising about the Galaxy S6 edge+ since it’s merely an enlarged version of the Galaxy S6 edge. As expected the Galaxy Note 5 appears to borrow major design cues from the Galaxy S6 duo but does pull off that look quite nicely. We have already reported exclusively that the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ will be officially launched on August 12 with shipments starting in select markets by August 21.
