Inserted your Galaxy Note 5′s S-Pen backwards? Here’s how you can fix it!

Pengate has been a widely debated topic these days, and while it is indeed a design issue, it was blown out of proportion with all the media coverage. As you know, inserting the S-Pen backwards breaks your Galaxy Note 5. Samsung has provided a simple and decisive response to this issue a while back, but if you happen to have broken your Galaxy Note 5 by inserting your S-Pen backwards then don’t worry, there’s a way to fix it, although you should be very careful.

How2Tech has recently published a video showing how to fix a wrongly inserted S-Pen in the Galaxy Note 5, and the solution is rather simple: you need to insert a sheet of paper into the hole which you will use to pull the pen out. The video takes you through the whole process in the detail as there’s a catch with the clicking of the pen, but it’s pretty easy.

It goes without saying that this is a pretty major design flaw, but it seems that you can fix it pretty easily, and jamming it there in the first place is pretty difficult. The S-Pen has become iconic in the past few years and it’s what makes the Note series good. FCC listing reveals Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic

Two new models just passed the FCC with the model names SM-R720 and SM-R732 which could be the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic. This is Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch with a circular form factor and a Super AMOLED panel which has a resolution of 360×360 pixels. The device will be powered by an Exynos 3472 SoC and 768MB of RAM along with a 250 mAh battery and 4GB of native storage. The FCC listing doesn’t reveal a lot of info hardware-wise but the fact that we’re seeing these listings suggests that we could see it on the market pretty soon. We expect the smartwatch to be unveiled next month at IFA, along with many other revolutionary gadgets.

There are many reasons to be excited for the Gear S2, and one of them is the elegant design. This is Samsung’s first circular smartwatch and the tech company could be onto something much bigger by using the IoT to interconnect their devices. With this project at hand you could basically use the Gear S2 to control various other electronics in your home.

Samsung trademarks Gear S2 Classic in South Korea

Earlier this month at the event for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ Samsung confirmed that its much awaited round smartwatch is called the Gear S2 and that it will be formally unveiled next month at IFA 2015. There had been whispers previously of the Gear S2 Classic but Samsung didn’t say anything about it during the event, the company’s trademark application for “Gear S2 Classic” has been spotted which makes it highly likely that there will be two variants of the upcoming wearable device.

Samsung did provide a hint at two possible variants of the upcoming smartwatch in the Lookbook it released recently which teased the Gear S2′s design, and the fact that the name Gear S2 Classic has already been discovered in the source code of Samsung’s website. This trademark application from South Korea serves as more evidence but unfortunately didn’t reveal much about the differences between these two models, we’ll have to wait until IFA 2015 to find out for sure.

This could be a preliminary list of Samsung devices getting Android Marshmallow

Wondering which Samsung smartphones and tablets will be receiving the Android 6.0 – aka Marshmallow – update? The folks over at SlashGear seem to have an answer from the Korean manufacturer itself and have published a list of devices that should be making the jump to Marshmallow. Naturally, the list has all the flagship smartphones from the last year and a half, including the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, and the Galaxy Note 4.

The Galaxy S5 isn’t part of the list, but it will most likely make the cut considering all Samsung flagships have gotten at least two major Android upgrades. Also, Android 6.0 doesn’t really have any feature that would be restricted by the S5′s hardware, so we see no reason why the Korean manufacturer wouldn’t bring the new version of the OS to its 2014 Galaxy S flagship.

Anyway, here’s the list of devices eligible for Marshmallow according to SlashGear:

Samsung to show off the future of IoT at IFA 2015 and at a Gear VR headset near you

Every year the IFA consumer electronics show takes place in Berlin, Germany. Thousands of attendees flock to Berlin each year to experience the latest in consumer technology and Samsung has been a regular attraction there. This time around Samsung is drumming up the hype for its Internet of Things efforts considering that it has already unveiled the new Galaxy Note handset, it previously used to announce a new flagship in this lineup at IFA. Starting September 4, the company promises that the Samsung Exhibition will provide a good look at “startling innovations and visions” as well as the latest advancements in IoT.

If you’re interested in experiencing the proceedings at IFA 2015 but can’t make it to Berlin, don’t worry, you’ll be fine as long as you have a Gear VR headset. The company will provide virtual reality experiences through the Samsung Zone for this year’s IFA and it says that this will essentially bring the IFA experience to you regardless of where you are in the world. It’s not going to be a small feat to provide a virtual reality experience from an event of IFA’s scale but this won’t stop Samsung. In case IoT’s not your cup of tea and you’re left wondering what else the company might unveil at the event that might catch your attention, don’t forget, Samsung’s round Gear S2 smartwatch will be formally unveiled at IFA 2015 as well.

Samsung inches closer to Intel in the semiconductor business

Samsung is focussing heavily on its semiconductor business as profits from the company’s mobile device business are declining. The South Korean semiconductor giant even narrowed the gap with Intel, the world’s largest semiconductor chip maker, in terms of sales.

According to a market research firm IHS iSuppli, Samsung turned over $10.366 billion in the second quarter of 2015, representing 12 percent of the global semiconductor market. On the other hand, Intel posted $11.797 billion in sales with a global market share of 13.6 percent. This leaves a gap of just 1.6 percent marketshare between these two semiconductor giants, and this is the first time this gap is in the range of 1 percent.

This is the first time that Samsung has posted sales worth over $10 billion, becoming the second semiconductor company to surpass that number after Intel. These semiconductor sales include memory as well as non-memory semiconductor chipsets. The gap between these two companies was 6.9 percent in 2011, 6.0 percent 2012, 4.3 percent in 2013, and 3.4 percent in 2014. Samsung’s marketshare increased by 0.8 percent in Q2 2015 while Intel’s grew by 0.3 percent.

SK Hynix now holds a market share of 4.9 percent, and the company has defeated Qualcomm, which is the world’s largest mobile chipset maker. Starting this year, Samsung has increased the use of its homegrown Exynos chipsets in its smartphones, tablets, and wearables.

With new iPhones around the corner Samsung sweetens the deal for ‘Test Drive’ customers

You might have heard by now that Apple has sent invites for an event on September 9 where it’s most likely going to unveil the next generation iPhone, the device that will prove to be tough competition for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+. Samsung is making a preemptive strike of sorts by further sweetening the deal for its “Test Drive” customers, in case you’re unaware Samsung recently launched the Test Drive promotion for iPhone users in the US allowing them to take the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge and the Galaxy S6 edge+ out for a spin at no charge. This promotion was well received and Samsung soon ran out of phones to ship.

Those who take part in this promotion and decide to purchase the Samsung device after their 30 days are up they will now receive $100 in Google Play credit which can be put towards the purchase of apps, games, books and other media content from the Play Store. Samsung will also provide them with another $100 if they trade-in the iPhone with their carrier or a retailer. Customers who are in the program need to visit Samsung’s promotions page when they’ve decided to purchase the device, they will need to enter the email they used to sign up for this program, answer a couple of survey questions and then fill in purchase details accompanied by a photo of the receipt as proof of purchase. Samsung will then email them a code for $100 Google Play credit, those who trade-in their iPhone will receive a $100 cheque from Samsung in the mail as well. That’s a $200 value combined, what new iPhones?
