Samsung Galaxy S7 release date for the US rumored

Even though it hasn’t made it official yet, Samsung is most likely going to unveil its next flagship at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona next month. We’ll only come to know at the event when it intends to actually release the Galaxy S7 but a new rumor has surfaced claiming to pinpoint the Galaxy S7 release date for the United States.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 at Mobile World Congress 2015 which took place between March 2 and March 5, 2015. The new flagship was actually released on April 10, 2015, and that too in only 20 countries initially. The rumor suggests that while Samsung might unveil the Galaxy S7 variants at MWC 2016 on February 21, 2016, it may release them in the United States on March 11, 2016. The US is almost always on the list of initial launch markets so even though this rumor mentions the release date only for one country, it’s likely that the handset may also arrive in other countries on or around March 11. Since this information comes from an unofficial source it’s best to not believe it to be completely true, rumors aren’t always spot on, but it’s plausible because it wouldn’t make any sense for Samsung to make customers wait for a very long time once it has unveiled its next flagship Galaxy S series smartphones.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 to reportedly use Samsung’s 10nm process

With the Snapdragon 820 set to reach the mass market later this year, speculation has already surfaced regarding the development of the chip’s sequel, the Snapdragon 830, which is rumored to touch down in the first quarter of 2017. A tipster revealed that the chip goes by the internal codename MSM8998, supports up to 8GB of RAM and claimed that it will feature an improved Kryo architecture, to be constructed using Samsung’s 10nm manufacturing process.

Unfortunately, we can’t confirm the authenticity of this report. We do believe that the Snapdragon 830 is on its way, and it does make perfect sense for it to support such a large amount of RAM. However, we find it extremely difficult to come to terms with the chip’s purported 10nm process as developers are still working on streamlining the 14nm procedure.

More importantly, Samsung hasn’t even taken the wraps off its 10nm development, which we first caught wind of six months ago by way of a roadmap – so we imagine that it’s far from being ready with such little R&D time.

Samsung introduces Uber taxi app for the Gear S2

It appears that Samsung is putting in a lot of effort in bringing more apps for the Gear S2, so that people won’t complain about the lack of apps on their shiny new smartwatch. Earlier today, we reported about the SlamdunQ Cricket app for the Gear S2. Now, Samsung has introduced the ultra-popular Uber taxi app for its latest smartwatch.

With the brand new Uber app for the Gear S2, users can request for a cab, select a pre-set destination, and get information about the taxi driver just by rotating the smartwatch’s bezel. As you can see in the video below, the app’s UI looks quite intuitive. We hope to see more taxi and ride-sharing apps for the Gear S2 from companies like Lyft, Ola, Didi Kuaidi, Sidecar, and more.

Samsung to use internally developed Touch IC in the Galaxy S7

Samsung has been trying to become self-reliant when it comes to smartphones. It already has already started equipping its smartphones with display panels, camera sensors, processors, DRAM chips, storage chips, and cellular radios that are internally developed by Samsung. Now, it will start using touchscreen IC that is developed by its System LSI division.

According to ETNews, Samsung has been developing its own touch IC since past three years, and it was recently decided that it will be put to use in the Galaxy S7. More importantly, it is being reported that this new touch IC will only be supplied for the Galaxy S7 family of device. Earlier, the company used to rely on digitizers from Synaptics and ST Microelectronics in its high-end devices.

It is being predicted that Samsung will further reduce its dependance on foreign companies. Moreover, since touchscreen technology is being increasingly used even in laptops these days, the company wanted to speed up the process of developing its own touchscreen IC. Brands like Synaptics and others will receive direct hits once Samsung stops or reduced buying touch ICs from them.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge screen sizes confirmed! Here are the details

There has been a lot of confusion regarding the screen size of the upcoming flagship smartphones from Samsung – the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge – as the South Korean smartphone giant has been testing a lot of prototypes with varied specifications. A variant of the Galaxy S7 was revealed through Geekbench yesterday, which hinted towards a 5.1-inch QHD display. Now, the screen sizes of the Galaxy S7 and its edge sibling have been revealed through the import listings on Zauba.

Based on the listings, the SM-G930R4 (Galaxy S7) is equipped with a 5.1-inch display, while the SM-G935R (Galaxy S7 edge) sports a 5.5-inch display. This falls in line with display size in the recently leaked AnTuTu benchmark test. According to the import database, two units of these smartphones were imported into India with valid IMEI numbers. There is also a possibility for the existence of the Galaxy S7 edge+, which could have a 5.7-inch display. There was also a report which suggested that Samsung could release as many as four members in the Galaxy S7 family – the Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S7 Plus, the Galaxy S7 edge, and the Galaxy S7 edge Plus – this year, but you should take that with a pinch of salt.

According to most leaks and reports (including our exclusive report), the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge should have QHD Super AMOLED displays with pressure sensitivity, Exynos 8890 processors with Samsung’s custom CPU cores, 4GB RAM, 32/64/128GB internal storage, a microSD card slot (yes, at least on the Galaxy S7), a 12-megapixel BRITECELL primary camera with larger-sized pixels, a 5-megapixel secondary camera, possibly an iris scanner, Cat.12/13 LTE connectivity, and a USB Type-C port. These smartphones will most probably be released with Android 6.0.1 out of the box.

Dual SIM Galaxy S7 edge gets certified in Taiwan

Certification checks are always taken as an indication that an unreleased device is just around the corner, we do tend to see upcoming devices get certified weeks before they’re due, which is why it’s not surprising to see Samsung’s next flagship pop up in these checks. The dual SIM Galaxy S7 edge has now been certified by Taiwan’s National Communications Commission, that’s the country’s version of the FCC, it bears model number SM-G935FD.

It merits mentioning here that dual SIM variants of both the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge, model number SM-G930FD and SM-G935FD, have already passed certification in Indonesia. This goes to show that Samsung will release dual SIM variants of its upcoming flagships but it’s not like we didn’t already know that this would happen. The certification documents show that the handset features 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth and wireless charging, all of the features you’d expect it to have. Samsung is going to formally unveil the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona next month.
