Galaxy C5 Pro surfaces on Indian import tracker

A little more than two months ago, we exclusively reported that Samsung was working on a souped-up model of the Galaxy C5 called the Galaxy C5 Pro, and now the handset — carrying the model number SM-C5010 — has been imported into India for testing and evaluation purposes. This news comes shortly after the long-rumored Galaxy C7 Pro entered the region for similar reasons.

Unfortunately, the documentation accompanying the prototype doesn’t shine any light on the internals it packs. If a recent report is anything to go by, however, it looks like the Galaxy C5 Pro will be powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and will sport at least 3GB of RAM. Although, it’s worth noting that neither of those specifications have been confirmed as of yet.

You’ve probably noticed that the unit carries a price tag of INR 20,483 ($300) in the import listing, but it’s extremely unlikely that this will be the final price tag it’ll carry when it hits the shelves. In fact, it’s actually expected to be quite a bit more than this figure seeing as the Galaxy C5 currently retails for around INR 23,000 ($337) in India.

Galaxy S6 running Android 7.0 Nougat surfaces on GFXBench

It seems that Samsung is in the final stages of testing the Android 7.0 update for the Galaxy S6 as a model of the handset running a build of Nougat has surfaced on the GFXBench online database. Typically, when a device is benchmarked operating a new flavor of Android, it indicates that a rollout is right around the corner.

It’s worth noting, however, that it’s relatively easy to falsify benchmark results, but seeing as we reported last week that the South Korean company had already started developing the Nougat firmware for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, we’re going to go out on a limb and say that this revelation is somewhat plausible.

If the upgrade follows the same timeframe as the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, it shouldn’t be too much longer until it starts rolling out to International variants. For comparison, it started making the rounds to the firm’s flagship handsets a mere two weeks after it was spotted on a benchmark results website.

NBA 2KVR Experience released for the Gear VR

2K has released a new basketball VR experience for the Gear VR. Called NBA 2KVR Experience, this is the first virtual reality mini-game from the publisher with multiple game modes and challenges. The mini-game will see players joining NBA 2K17 cover athlete and All-Star Paul George as they take to the court at the Indiana Pacers’ stadium, Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Paul George will guide players by providing tips on how to improve their skills in the mini-game and will also provide commentary. Mini-games include a Time Attack mode, Three-Point Games and Party Events. The idea here is simple. Just aim with your face and try to land the shots. A trailer has also been released by the publisher which provides a glimpse of this virtual reality experience that’s quite similar to the ones we’ve already seen for some other games like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Star Wars Battlefront.

NBA 2KVR Experience has been released today for the Gear VR. Bear in mind that it’s not free, this virtual reality experience is going to cost you $14.99.

Samsung was India’s top 4G smartphone vendor in Q3 2016

Samsung maintains its strong position in India’s smartphone market. Latest data from Cyber Media Research shows that the company accounted for 32.1 percent of all 4G-compatible smartphones shipped in India in the third quarter of 2016. It’s followed in second place by China’s Lenovo with 14.6 percent and Lyf with 10.6 percent. Even though smartphones are rapidly becoming popular in the country, feature phones still remain in a dominant position as they account for 59 percent of the overall mobile phone market.

197.5 million mobile handsets were shipped in India by the end of September 2016, 78.4 million of those units were shipped in the third quarter alone. Cyber Media Research expects handset shipments in India to reach 265 million units by the end of this year. Smartphones are said to account for 116 million units. Data also shows that Samsung has maintained its lead in the high-end smartphone segment as its market share stands at 49.2 percent compared to Apple’s 43.3 percent in second place.

Samsung leads the mobile market in India overall with a 24.6 percent market share while Lenovo and Micromax follow in second and third place with 10.4 percent and 7.5 percent respectively.

November security patch now making its way to the Galaxy A3 (2016) in Europe

Samsung has today started distributing the November security patch for the factory unlocked model of the Galaxy A3 (2016) in Europe. Just like the build that started rolling out for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in the Netherlands last week, the upgrade brings a total of 14 specific bug fixes for the company’s mobile devices, in addition to dozens of patches for Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) in the Android OS.

Like usual, the update — firmware version XXU2BPK2 — is being pushed out in stages, so don’t be alarmed if you haven’t received a notification prompting you to install the upgrade just yet. If you own a Galaxy A3 (2016) and would like to see if the upgrade is ready for your handset, simply head into Settings » About Device » Software Update » Update Now.

Gear Manager application for iOS leaks online [APK]

A leaked IPA file for what’s believed to be the final beta build of the Gear Manager application for iOS has surfaced online. Owners of the Gear S2 and Gear S3 can download the file and install it on their iPhone running iOS 8.4 or later. It’s worth noting, however, that as this is beta version there are some bugs present, but it should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect when it finally launches on the App Store.

If you’d like to install the leaked build of Gear Manager for iOS on your handset, simply download the IPA file from here on your computer. Connect your iPhone. Double-click the beta file and sync it to your iPhone using iTunes. Select Gear S3 and tap install. Once you’re handset has finished synchronizing, navigate into Settings > General > Device Management, then trust the Samsung certificate.

Now all you have to do is factory reset your Gear S2 or Gear S3, switch on Bluetooth, pair it to your iPhone inside the Gear Manager application and you’ll be good to go. Some users have reportedly noticed that only a limited amount of watch faces and applications are available to install on the wearables from within the application at this precise moment in time. It’s likely that more will be added when it’s officially released before the year’s out.

Samsung expected to launch the Galaxy S7 in Glossy Black next month

It was reported recently that Samsung is going to reignite consumer interest in the Galaxy S7 series by launching new color options. The company has implemented this strategy by launching the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge. According to a new report out of Korea, the company is going to launch a new color option for the Galaxy S7 next month, one that’s going to rival the Jet Black iPhone 7. Samsung is apparently going to launch the Glossy Black Galaxy S7 in December.

The handset is already offered in Black Onyx but it has a matte finish. Glossy Black, as the name suggests, will be quite shiny but as we’ve already seen with the Jet Black iPhone 7, it may be prone to scratching very easily. The report fails to mention if the Glossy Black Galaxy S7 will be exclusive to Samsung’s home country of South Korea or if it will be released across the globe. Seeing as how the Blue Coral Galaxy S7 edge has been launched in multiple markets across the globe, similar treatment can be expected for the Glossy Black Galaxy S7 if and when it arrives.
