Galaxy S8 pre-orders outperform the Galaxy S7 by quite a margin in South Korea

Analysts expect that the Galaxy S8 is going to outperform the Galaxy S7 and even Samsung is holding on to that expectation. We’re now seeing numbers to back up the assumption. According to a new report, the Galaxy S8 pre-orders have crossed a total of 550,000 units ever since pre-orders were opened in South Korea on April 7.

The number of pre-orders made for the Galaxy S8 in just two days surpasses the record high number of 400,000 pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 7 last year. The Galaxy S8′s pre-order volume for the first two days is said to be 5.5 times more than that of its predecessor.

There’s significant demand for the Galaxy S8 and it’s surely not going to subside anytime soon. Samsung is due to release the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in several markets across the globe on April 21 after will the handset is going to gradually make its way to additional markets.

The Galaxy S8 is definitely just what the doctor ordered for Samsung. The handset is likely to drive the company’s operating profit to a record high in the second quarter of this year.

Now that the Galaxy S8 is here, expect fewer updates for your Galaxy S7 and S7 edge

It’s that time of the year when everyone is waiting for Samsung’s new flagship to go on sale. Samsung has delayed proceedings a bit this year because of, you know, all that happened with the Galaxy Note 7. But as we near the day the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will become available on retail shelves, we thought we would point out that Samsung might now be pushing out fewer updates to the Galaxy S7 lineup.

For proof that Samsung has already reduced the importance it will be giving to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge as far as updates are concerned, look no further than the fact that neither handset has received the March security update and we are already well into April. The March security patch has only been made available in the US, and an update currently rolling out to the S7 edge in the UK doesn’t have the newest security patches, either.

This suggests that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will now be getting security patches every three months, just as it has been the case for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ for the most part of last year. Oddly, a company official did say that the US will see monthly updates on the S7 and S7 edge from now on, so maybe the delay of the March security patch for the two devices is just a result of Samsung putting increased focus on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ as they near retail availability.

Of course, even if Samsung shifts to a quarterly update schedule, general software updates will continue to be released as and when needed. But we might need to get ready for the possibility that security updates for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge might not be coming out on a monthly basis anymore, and that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are the devices Samsung will be working on around the clock in the coming months.

Leaked images reportedly show refurbished Galaxy Note 7 with 3,200 mAh battery

We brought you one of the first solid pieces of information that suggested that Samsung is working on a refurbished Galaxy Note 7, and the company recently made it official that it would be doing its best to salvage usable components from the Note 7 and possibly launching a refurbished version depending on market viability. Today, pictures of what is supposedly the refurbished Note 7 have been leaked.

The handset in the images is running Android 7.0 Nougat and carries model number SM-N935, just like we said it would. The battery capacity is also listed as 3,200 mAh on the device; it had been rumored earlier that the refurbished Note 7 would feature a smaller battery than the original, and it certainly looks like that will be the case. Whether the reduced battery size will hold up well in real-life usage remains to be seen, and there’s even the question of whether the refurbished unit will actually go on sale.

The original rumor had suggested that the refurbished model would launch in India and Vietnam, and though a Samsung India employee had rubbished the rumor, the fact that today’s leaked pictures come from the SamsungVN website (a Vietnamese fansite not officially related to Samsung) suggest that it could go on sale in the latter. It wouldn’t be surprising, either, as Samsung currently assembles its smartphones in Vietnam, so relaunching the Note 7 in that market would be considerably easier than in other markets.

Again, there’s no telling if and where Samsung will get the necessary government permissions for selling the refurbished Galaxy Note 7. We’re just hoping that its availability isn’t restricted to only a few markets as there are likely a lot of folks who would put down their hard earned money to get their hands on the Note 7. It’s odd how the Note 7 suddenly looks so boring and generic in design now that the Infinity Display-toting Galaxy S8 is here, but it certainly still holds the crown for offering the most productivity on a Samsung phone (not counting the new DeX station for the S8).

Samsung posts first official Galaxy S8 TVC on YouTube

Since launching the Galaxy S8 officially, Samsung has posted its official introduction and hands-on videos online. Now that it has started taking pre-orders for its new flagship smartphone and will be releasing it in a couple of weeks, it’s time for the company to start its advertisement blitz.

Samsung today posted the first official Galaxy S8 TV commercial on YouTube. If you watched the Galaxy S8 announcement live stream on March 29 then you might remember this as the ad was played during the presentation.

It basically shows us how the display has been broken out of its shell by the Galaxy S8 which features an impressive dual edge curved panel that Samsung calls Infinity Display. The handset is near bezel-less with the display stretching even further up the top and bottom for an impressive screen-to-body ratio.

The display is certainly one of the major unique selling points of the Galaxy S8 so it’s not surprising to see Samsung highlight it in the first official TVC for its new flagship. The Galaxy S8 is going to be released on April 21.
