Samsung mobile division’s boss confirms when the Galaxy Note 8 will be announced

There have been a lot of reports recently about when Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy Note 8. Many expected Samsung to stick to tradition and announce the handset at IFA in Berlin this September but the rumor mill believes that Samsung is going to host a separate event for the new flagship.

We started hearing not too long ago that Samsung’s event is going to take place in New YorK City and that it will be scheduled towards the end of August. Even specific dates are being rumored even though nothing has been confirmed by Samsung as yet.

However, it appears that the head of Samsung’s mobile division has dropped a big hint. The president of Samsung’s mobile division Dongjin Koh, better known in the media circles as DJ Koh, has reportedly said that the Galaxy Note 8 will be announced at the end of August.

Koh and several other Samsung executives visited Taiwan this week to meet with executives from the local telecom industry. Later, they sat down with local media outlets in a brief question and answer session.

According to a report out of Taiwan, Koh said that there are a considerable number of Galaxy Note users in Taiwan. The company has sold more than 2.3 million Note units in Taiwan so far since 2011. He also mentioned that the Galaxy Note 8 will be announced by the end of August.

Koh added that the Galaxy Note 8 will be released in the first wave of launch markets in early September while other markets will have to wait until October.

He didn’t say anything about the price of the new flagship or the precise date on which the event will take place. Koh didn’t confirm where the event will take place as well.

Given that the event is now said to take place by the end of next month, it’s only going to be a few weeks before all of this becomes known.

Galaxy C10 sports dual camera in leaked pictures

Samsung is yet to release a smartphone with a dual camera system at the back. The Galaxy S8 was expected to be Samsung’s first handset with a dual camera but even though we’ve seen prototypes of that device, the Galaxy S8 that was eventually released didn’t have it.

Over the past few months, it has been consistently rumored that the Galaxy Note 8 is going to be Samsung’s first handset with a dual camera system. However, it appears that a couple of mid-range handsets are in the pipeline as well which may or may not arrive before the next flagship phablet.

Samsung is expected to release a variant of the Galaxy J7 (2017) in China which will feature a dual camera. We’ve seen several leaked images of this variant but it’s unclear at this point in time when this handset will arrive.

The Galaxy C7 (2017) is reportedly going to feature a dual camera as well and we’ve also heard similar rumors about the Galaxy C10 as well. Today, a couple of images have leaked online which apparently show off the Galaxy C10 with a dual camera system at the back.

It’s clear that Samsung wants to follow the growing trend of slapping dual cameras at the back of smartphones and once the first one is out, it’s only going to be a matter of time before all Samsung flagships and premium mid-range handsets at the very least begin sporting these advanced cameras.

We’ve already opined how launching its dual camera system will be beneficial for the company and the impact that would have on the industry at large that’s basically focused on a hardware race right now.

Is this what the Galaxy Note 8 will look like?

Could we finally be getting a look at the, well, final version of the Galaxy Note 8? Ice universe, a leakster who has often been proven right, has published a render showing the front fascia of the Galaxy Note 8. We can’t say if this is the real deal, but given the Note 8’s design is expected to be similar to the Galaxy S8’s, can the Note 8 even look like anything else on the front? The only thing that looks out of place here is the slightly larger bottom bezel, but that could be deliberate so that the top and bottom bezels match in size, something that isn’t the case on the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

What we really need is a picture of the back of the Note 8, which is unfortunately still eluding us. Even this render might be a mockup just be based on rumors, maybe even based on Samsung’s teaser of a device that looked like the Note 8, so it’s impossible to say. Also suggesting that this isn’t a render of the final device is the fact that the date on the screen says July 13. Samsung’s official renders usually have the date the device will be announced. Rumors peg the official launch of the Note 8 sometime in the last week of August, but nothing is certain at this point in time.

What do you think about the render you see below? Would you be okay if this is what the Galaxy Note 8 would look like? Sound off in the comments!

Video shows the impressive capabilities of Bixby Voice

Bixby Voice has been the cause of much consternation for Galaxy S8 owners. Samsung hyped it up as one of the biggest features of the new flagship and yet it wasn’t able to deliver Bixby Voice at launch. The company later delayed the feature’s release a couple of times because it wasn’t ready.

Samsung launched a preview of Bixby Voice for users in the United States. The early access program enabled select Galaxy S8 owners to try out the voice functionality. The program also allowed Samsung to collect much needed big data to further improve Bixby Voice.

YouTuber Sakitech has posted a video on his channel detailing the capabilities of Bixby Voice and they’re quite impressive. The video shows that Bixby is capable of performing basic tasks such as taking screenshots, turning on the Wi-Fi, adjusting brightness and more in response to the relevant commands.

It’s even capable of performing advanced tasks such as remembering the parking location, launching the camera and taking a picture even when the phone is locked, adjusting the display resolution, switching video resolution and more.

The video goes to show that Samsung wasn’t kidding about Bixby’s ability to do everything in response to a voice command that the user can do by tapping on the display.

Samsung is yet to confirm when it’s going to release Bixby Voice with support for the English language. A report earlier today suggests that Bixby Voice could be released in the United States on July 18.
