Huawei P40 series uses Samsung’s OLED screens

Samsung Display is the biggest and most popular smartphone OLED panel manufacturer in the world. The company supplies OLED screens for hundreds of smartphone models, including the ones from Apple, Huawei, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Huawei’s recently released P40 series uses Samsung’s OLED panels as well.

According to a report from South Korean tech publication TheElec, Huawei exclusively uses Samsung’s OLED screen in the P40 Pro+. The P40 Pro uses screens from China’s BOE as well as Korea’s LG Display and Samsung Display. The Huawei P40 exclusively uses BOE’s OLED screens. This goes on to show that Huawei prefers OLED panels from Samsung for its most premium phones, and this could be due to Samsung’s higher quality and better supply chain.

Huawei’s top-of-the-line P40 smartphone exclusively uses Samsung’s OLED screen

The Huawei P40 features a 6.11-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. The P40 Pro and the P40 Pro+ use 6.58-inch OLED screens with 2640×1200 pixels resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, HDR10, and DCI-P3 color gamut. In comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series features OLED screens with QHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage.

Samsung uses OLED screens in over 60% of its phones, while Huawei uses OLED screens in just 20% of its phones.

Huawei’s P40 series focuses on photography and videography. The P40 features a triple-camera on the rear, while the P40 Pro and the P40 Pro+ feature quad-camera and penta-camera setups, respectively. They all use 50MP (1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor) primary cameras on the rear and 32MP+3D IR dual-camera setup on the front.

The P40 Pro also features a 12MP 5x optical zoom camera, a 40MP ultrawide-angle camera, and a 3D ToF camera. The Pro Pro+ uses an 8MP 3x optical zoom camera, an 8MP 10x optical zoom camera, a 40MP ultrawide-angle camera, and a 3D ToF camera. Both front and rear-facing cameras on all three phones can record up to 4K 60fps videos.

New leak reveals base price of Galaxy Tab S6 Lite for European markets

Samsung is planning to launch a trimmed down version of the Galaxy Tab S6 very soon. The tablet’s design has been leaked more than once over the past few weeks. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite’s features and specifications have also been revealed ahead of its official announcement. The only unsolved piece of the puzzle was its pricing, but now that information has been leaked as well.

According to a new report, the base variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will be priced at €399 in European markets. This price is for the Wi-Fi only variant of the device with 64GB of internal storage. Expect the cost of the LTE variant to be higher. There will also be a 128GB storage variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite in some countries. It will come in two colors: black and blue.

Galaxy Tab S6 Lite specifications

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite features a 10.4-inch LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio. The device comes bundled with an S Pen for jotting down notes and for drawing. It runs Android 10 with One UI 2.0. It is equipped with the Exynos 9611 processor, 4GB RAM, and 64GB/128GB internal storage. It has a 7mm thin aluminum body that weighs 467g.

The upcoming mid-range tablet from Samsung features a 5MP selfie camera and an 8MP rear-facing camera. Both the cameras can record 1080p videos. In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite comes packed with GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It has AKG-tuned stereo speakers and a 7040mAh battery.

We expect Samsung to officially unveil the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite in the next few weeks as the tablet had already been listed on Amazon. It has also received necessary certifications from FCC and NCC.

This Galaxy Note Fold concept scratches an itch for many Samsung fans

Many Samsung fans felt that the Galaxy Fold presented Samsung with a great opportunity to expand its portfolio of devices that support the S Pen. The Galaxy Note is the only series of handsets from Samsung that can be used with the stylus. Many felt that the Galaxy Fold’s internal display would be the perfect companion to the S Pen.

There’s no saying if that’s ever going to happen. Samsung seems to be convinced that keeping these two lineups separate is the best course of action. So while the company may not indulge this wish that some of its fans have, an independent concept creator has developed a Galaxy Note Fold concept which scratches that itch.

Many Samsung fans would love S Pen support on the Galaxy Fold

The Concept Creator YouTube channel posted this concept of a Galaxy Note Fold today. It’s a fusion of some of the best elements from the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Fold. The device in this concept has an integrated S Pen much like the Galaxy Note handsets.

Sure, things like a 1440p 120Hz flexible display and S Pen may seem like a stretch, but this concept does signify some of the improvements that we can expect from the Galaxy Fold’s successor. The upcoming foldable smartphone is expected to feature larger internal and cover displays in addition to a more robust camera setup.

Some early Galaxy Fold 2 rumors have hinted at S Pen support but it’s soon to say if that’s actually going to be true. Other rumors have claimed that the handset will have a larger 7.7-inch foldable display compared to the 7.3-inch panel in the Galaxy Fold. Samsung is expected to launch its second foldable smartphone of the year in August but it remains to be seen if that will happen, depending upon how this pandemic situation plays out in the coming months.

Galaxy Note 20+ 5G hits benchmark with Snapdragon 865, 8GB RAM

The Galaxy Note 20+ has popped up in the online benchmark Geekbench for the first time, proving that Samsung has pushed the device deep into development. The phone carries model number SM-N986U, which should correspond with the 5G variant given that the Note 10+ 5G is known as the SM-N976U.

The motherboard is codenamed ‘kona,’ which means that the Galaxy Note 20+ 5G is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset – same as the Galaxy S20 series in regions where it doesn’t employ the in-house Exynos solution instead. This makes sense, given how the SM-N976U model number corresponds to the US market, where the Snapdragon solution is preferred by Samsung.

Snapdragon 865, 8GB of RAM, Android 10 seem to be on-board

Other details revealed by the benchmark include 8GB of RAM, which is a bit odd given that the Galaxy S20 5G has 12GB of RAM as standard. But keep in mind that this may be an early prototype model, so certain specs like RAM could change by the time the phone will be ready for the market.

As expected, the Galaxy Note 20+ runs Android 10 out of the box, and it should be Samsung’s first smartphone to ship with One UI 2.5 out of the box. Benchmark scores suggest that the Galaxy Note 20+ tackles both the single-core and multi-core tests with more success when compared to the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, as you can see in the gallery below.

Keep in mind that early benchmark scores for unreleased devices aren’t always representative of the final product. They are subject to change, but regardless, the Galaxy Note 20 series should use the same chipset as the Galaxy S20 and performance should be similar.

Disney Plus is now available in Spain, you can test it on a 7-day trial

Disney Plus (Disney+) is now available in Spain, offering ad-free access to a wide variety of feature films, series, documentaries, and more. Much like in other regions where the service has been launched, Disney Plus is available on all Samsung Smart TVs released in 2016 and later.

The Walt Disney Company’s on-demand subscription-based streaming service offers exclusive access to The Mandalorian, along with content from a variety of entertainment brands including Marvel, Pixar, and National Geographic. Content is offered in its original format along with dubbed and subtitled alternatives.

You can test the streaming service for free on a 7-day trial

Disney Plus is available for €6.99 a month or €69.99 a year, and prospective customers can test the platform for free through a seven-day trial before committing to the paid service. A subscription allows up to 4 users to view content at the same time on different devices, and customers can create up to 7 different profiles per account.

Eligible Samsung Smart TVs should have the Disney Plus app available, or it can be downloaded from the Store. The platform is also compatible with Bixby, allowing you to launch Disney Plus and control playback using voice commands.

New Always On Display update improves layouts, fixes a couple of bugs

Samsung is rolling out a new update for Always On Display, pushing the app to version 5.2.05.8. It fixes a couple of bugs related to Dark Mode and Bluetooth-connected keyboards, and also claims to improve the layouts for some clock styles.

Before this update, Always On Display had an issue whereby the background would turn gray when using a Bluetooth keyboard. AOD settings were also difficult to see while Dark Mode was enabled on certain themes. These bugs have now been addressed with version 5.2.05.8.

You don’t need One UI 2.1 for this update

The update is rolling out now, and we can confirm that it is available at least on the Galaxy Note 10 (running One UI 2.0 and not the latest One UI 2.1 update). But the new Always On Display version should be pushed to more Samsung devices as we speak.

You can check which Always On Display version you’re running by opening Settings, navigating to Lock screen » Always On Display (don’t tap the toggle, but the text itself), and tapping About Always On Display. If the update hasn’t reached your phone yet, you may have to wait for a few more days. You can also launch the Galaxy Store on your phone, tap the ‘hamburger’ menu in the upper-left corner, and check if the new version is waiting for you in the Updates category.

Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G lets you use 3 SIMs, or 2 SIMs and a microSD card

The Galaxy S20 is Samsung’s second smartphone (series) to feature an eSIM, after the Galaxy Fold. The new flagship also has dual SIM slots, one of which is a hybrid, in addition to an eSIM in most markets. Technically, this allows you to have three SIMs running on your phone, or two SIMs and one microSD card at the same time – something that we were looking forward to since the beginning of the year, particularly as far as the Galaxy S20 Ultra was concerned.

This seems to be true for the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, at the very least. This characteristic was initially brought to light by teltarif last month, and more recently we were able to test this feature on German firmware for ourselves, post-review. However, as of this writing, we are unsure if this mode of operation is supported by the other Galaxy S20 models or the Galaxy S20 Ultra LTE.

With two physical SIMs and an eSIM, only one physical SIM stays active at a time

On the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, at least, you can set up an eSIM and use it in conjunction with SIM slot 1 as well as a microSD. Alternatively, you can fit two physical SIM cards and an eSIM, but you will only be able to keep the eSIM and SIM slot 1 active at the same time. It looks like the eSIM and the second SIM slot don’t work simultaneously, regardless of whether you’re going for a 3-SIM configuration or a dual SIM+microSD. However, you can manually switch between SIM slot 2 and the eSIM when you need to use the former.
