Galaxy F52 5G inches closer to launch as its battery capacity gets revealed

Samsung is working on two new smartphones based on the recently-released Galaxy A52 5G: Galaxy F52 5G and the Galaxy M62 5G. Both smartphones started showing signs of their existence last month, and now, the Galaxy F52 5G’s battery capacity, software version, and dimensions have been revealed.

The Galaxy F52 5G (SM-E5260) cleared through TENAA certification earlier today. According to the supporting documents, the Galaxy F52 5G is powered by a 4,350mAh battery. The upcoming smartphone will run Android 11 out of the box and measure 164.63 × 76.3 × 8.7mm. The Galaxy F52 5G is also said to feature a dual-SIM card slot, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.1. The phone’s 3C certification had revealed that it supports 25W fast charging. Going by the phone’s model number, it could be launched in China.

Interestingly, the TENAA certification mentions the phone’s applicant as Huawei Technologies and the manufacturer as Samsung Electronics. It could probably be a mistake on TENAA’s part, but we will get to know more about the phone over the coming weeks. If it is really based on the Galaxy A52 5G, we can expect the Galaxy F52 5G to feature a 120Hz Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 750G processor, a 64MP quad-camera setup with OIS, and IP67 certification.

The Galaxy M62 5G could make it to developing markets like India, and it could feature specifications similar to the Galaxy F52 5G. However, it could have a much bigger battery (6,000mAh or more), matching other Galaxy M series smartphones. The device appeared on the BIS website a few days ago, pointing towards its India launch. Samsung is planning to launch more mid-range 5G smartphones this year.

Galaxy Tab Active 3 has joined the Android 11 party with the latest update

Samsung’s continuing its successful streak of firmware updates and the company is now bringing the Android 11-based One UI 3 update to the Galaxy Tab Active 3. The rollout is taking place in Europe, with Switzerland seemingly being the first market to receive it, though availability should expand gradually into other countries across the old continent.

As expected, the new firmware is accompanied by the more recent March 2021 security patch, which is of course only a small portion of the latest release. The star of the show is Android 11 and the newer version of One UI. The user interface is modernized all throughout, and native apps have also been updated with elements that are easier to reach and read.

The new Android 11 update for the Galaxy Tab Active 3 carries firmware number T575XXU3BUD5, and tablet users should be able to download it from the Settings app under the Software update category.

Samsung Internet gets Web Monetization capabilities with new Coil add-on

Samsung Internet is seemingly getting better with each passing month. Back in March we discussed 7 reasons why Samsung Internet is the best mobile browser around, and now we can add yet another entry to that list. Coil — the company dedicated to building a better business model for the web — has just released the Coil add-on for the Samsung Internet browser, giving users an alternative way to supporting their favorite content creators.

Coil is based on an open technology called Web Monetization that allows subscribers to support content creators without having to rely on advertising, tracking, or other methods. Essentially, Coil users pay a fixed monthly fee while the aforementioned Web Monetization technology enables streaming micropayments to instantly flow to websites as users consume content. It’s a one-stop service for supporting your favorite websites and content creators, and it’s now integrated with Samsung Internet.

The Coil add-on is available for download from the Galaxy Store. The add-on is obtainable for free and the Coil membership costs $5 per month. With the membership enabled, the add-on will automatically detect web monetized sites and reward creators anonymously. According to Coil CEO and Founder Stefan Thomas, the launch of the add-on for Samsung Internet represents a win for consumers who want an easy way to pay for content and support creators without sacrificing their privacy or suffering through distracting ads and paywalls.

Galaxy A52 vs Galaxy A72 software updates: The A52 has a big advantage

The Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 are two of the best mid-range phones money can buy right now, but while both devices are fantastic in their own rights, there are a few reasons why the Galaxy A52 is the preferred solution by many.

Even though it’s cheaper, the Galaxy A52 comes in a 5G variant that has a faster chipset and a better display. The differences between the Galaxy A52 and A72 aren’t strictly limited to hardware either, and the reality of the situation is that Galaxy A52 owners will benefit from better software support.

Security patches make the difference

To be clear, both the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 ship with One UI 3.1, and they’re both eligible for three major Android OS updates. This is a pretty big deal, especially given the fact that rival budget phones are sometimes limited to a single OS update throughout their lifetime.

Even so, Samsung is treating the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 differently as far as software support is concerned, and if you’re a fan of timely security patches, you’ll be better off buying the Galaxy A52 instead of the more expensive model.

It may seem counterintuitive given the difference in price between the two smartphone models, but it’s true. The Galaxy A52 benefits from monthly security patches, whereas the Galaxy A72 was added to the quarterly update schedule at launch.

This isn’t something entirely new but it is worth pointing out. Indeed, the older Galaxy A5 models have also benefitted from timelier security patches compared to the old Galaxy A7 alternatives, so just in case you were wondering if Samsung has changed its mind in the meantime, well, it hasn’t.

The Galaxy M12 is officially coming to Europe in a matter of weeks

Samsung is bringing the Galaxy M12 to Europe, the company revealed earlier today while confirming that Spain will be among the first European markets to sell it. The Galaxy M12 will be released in Spain on May 2, but pre-orders will go live today and early adopters will benefit from a €50 discount.

The Galaxy M12 will be released in Spain in two main variants: one with 64GB of built-in storage and the other boasting 128GB. The entry-level model will be released for €209, while the 128GB variant costs €229.

Is a 90Hz display on a budget worth it?

Yes it does. Surprisingly, we found out during our Galaxy M12 review that the 90Hz panel performs very well, despite the fact that the M12 is a budget-oriented phone and literally Samsung’s cheapest 90Hz-enabled smartphone to date.

The Galaxy M12, powered by the Exynos 850 chipset, is capable of delivering fluid scrolling and animations in most apps, though the 90Hz refresh rate comes at a cost, as the quality of the display itself is rather mediocre. Nevertheless, performance is surprising and battery life is fantastic, so there’s a lot to like about this budget 90Hz device, especially for the price and considering the €50 discount for early adopters.

Buddhist monks in Korea request for leniency on jailed Samsung vice chairman

Samsung’s vice chairman Lee Jae-yong was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison earlier this year. He was found guilty of bribing an associate of former South Korean president to force the merger of Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T, which allowed him to take control of Samsung Electronics. While Lee isn’t interested in getting out of jail, Buddhist monks of the highest order have called for leniency in this matter.

According to reports coming out of South Korea, the head monks of the 24 branch temples of the Jogye Order have pleaded with President Moon Jae-in and two other politicians to give jailed Lee a second chance. The Jogye Order is South Korea’s largest Buddhist sect, and it is rare for its head monks to release a joint statement for leniency of a jailed businessman.

While the monks didn’t request a pardon, they said that Lee deserves a chance to repent his past and fulfill the commitments that he had made last year. They also called on the public to see whether Lee lives up to his past promises. Their joint statement was delivered to South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, and National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seug.

The monks said in a joint statement, “We understand that Mr. Lee has made plenty of efforts to repent on his past and even released a public apology prior to the court’s ruling. In the statement, he admitted Samsung didn’t play by the rules and was unethical. He also said he was sorry for being unable to respond to the heightened social norms of society.”

Lee Jae-yong isn’t allowed to work for Samsung for five years once he is released from jail. This decision by the court has put the company in a state of crisis. It was revealed yesterday that the company wants Lee back at the helm before announcing a $62.7 billion investment to expand its semiconductor production amid the ongoing global chip crisis.
