Galaxy Tab S7 lineup is getting the April 2021 security patch

Samsung is rolling out the April 2021 security patch to its high-end tablets, the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+. A new software update, which brings the latest security patch to these tablets, is currently rolling out in various countries. The update also brings some new features related to the camera, DeX, and productivity.

Both Wi-Fi-only and cellular versions of the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+ are receiving the new software update in Asia, Europe, and the UK. Apart from the April 2021 security patch, the update also includes improved usability for external input devices like keyboards and mice, S Pen pressure sensitivity recognition while using the tablet as a second monitor, improved multi-window feature, support for screen recording in DeX mode, and background effects during video calls.

The update also includes High-Key mono and Low-Key mono effects in the camera’s portrait mode. It also brings two video filters (Highlight videos and Filtered videos) to the tablet’s rear-facing camera and the ability to use the palm gesture to start recording videos using the front-facing camera. The new software for the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+ also includes bug fixes and stability improvements. It is a big update (over 700MB in size), so it is a good idea to use a Wi-Fi network to download it.

Samsung hypes up its ‘most powerful Galaxy’ device launch

It’s been a couple of weeks since Samsung announced another Galaxy Unpacked event. This will be the third Unpacked so far and according to Samsung, it will bring the ‘most powerful Galaxy’ device ever.

Since it normally unveils new smartphones at Unpacked events, many initially believed that the company was launching new Galaxy phones. That’s not likely to be the case. Reports suggest that the devices to be unveiled on April 28, 2021 will be of an entirely different category.

Generating buzz for a new family of devices

Samsung is yet again hyping up the Galaxy Unpacked event that’s scheduled for April 28. It has posted a new teaser on Twitter to drive the point home. The company is evidently relying on the ‘most powerful Galaxy’ tagline to generate buzz for the new products.

There’s reason to believe that Samsung will be launching its much rumored latest laptops at the event. There have already been plenty of leaks about the Galaxy Book Go, Galaxy Book Pro and the Galaxy Book Pro 360 so far.

It’s been a while since Samsung launched new laptops. Many will be interested in seeing what direction the company takes with these new products. Reports suggest that there will be high-end models on offer too. Their specs may include 11th Gen. Intel Core processors with OLED touchscreens, a 90Hz refresh rate display, 5G connectivity and LPDDR4X RAM.

Galaxy S21 May 2021 security update improves Camera and Quick Share

Samsung’s been rolling out the April 2021 security patch to countless Galaxy devices for a few weeks now, but it’s time for the company to switch gears, introduce a newer security update, and repeat the process of bringing it to as many phones and tablets as possible within the next few weeks.

The May 2021 security patch just got released and it’s now available for none other than the Galaxy S21 flagship series. As always though, the update is available in a limited number of markets at first, and it should gradually expand to include more regions. The May 2021 security patch has debuted on the Galaxy S21 series in Europe and the update carries firmware version G99xBXXU3AUDA.

A hefty 1.2GB firmware update with extra enhancements

The Galaxy S21 series may be the first to receive the May 2021 security patch, but you can be certain that it won’t be the last. The fun has only begun, and as to which Galaxy device will be updated next, well, it’s anyone’s guess. It could very well be another flagship phone or a budget-oriented device from the Galaxy A / M series.

Whatever the case maybe, Samsung hasn’t detailed the May 2021 security patch but it has released a changelog for the whole update, and the package contains more than just the latest security patch.

Galaxy S21 owners in Europe are looking at a 1.2GB download, and the changelog mentions improvements to both the Camera and Quick Share. You should be able to download the new firmware from the phone’s Settings app, or you can refer to our firmware archive, search for your device and model number, and download the latest update to install manually on your phone.

The aging Galaxy A9 (2018) has secured the latest Android security update

Another one of Samsung’s aging mid-range smartphones is now getting updated with the latest-available Android security patch. As per the title above, this time it’s the Galaxy A9 (2018) that’s receiving the April 2021 security patch through a new firmware update, though availability is limited at present.

The April 2021 security patch is now available for the unlocked Galaxy A9 (SM-A9200) in China, though as yet there’s no telling when the new security patch will be released for the Galaxy A9 in other markets. As far as China is concerned, the latest update is identified by firmware version A9200ZCS4CUD1, and the firmware number itself indicates that Galaxy A9 owners shouldn’t expect any additional features aside from improved security.

The April 2021 security patch was detailed by Samsung a few weeks ago, and so far it’s been released for a wide variety of phones, including the Galaxy A9 Star. It got updated over the weekend, though availability has so far remained limited.

As for the Galaxy A9 (2018), users in China should receive an update notification at any moment, or they can trigger the update process from the Software update menu inside the Settings app. Alternatively, SamMobile offers easy access to the latest Samsung firmware, which can be downloaded from our archive and installed on a smartphone using a Windows PC.

Samsung heir is reportedly looking to secure a ~$450 million loan for taxes

Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong is expected to reveal the details of his inheritance this week, and fresh reports from the local media suggest that the heir is looking to finance the inheritance tax with bank loans.

The late Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee left a fortune in stocks and assets behind when he passed away in October. Lee’s heirs are expected to inherit stocks with a total value of 18.96 trillion won ($17 billion), and they are bound to pay the highest inheritance tax in South Korea’s history, calculated at roughly 11 trillion won ($9 billion). The heirs can reportedly choose to pay the inheritance tax over the next five years after they pay the tax authorities one-sixth of the inherited value.

The heirs are looking at an April 30 deadline for filing the inheritance tax, and in recent news, Lee Jae-yong is now reportedly looking to secure a personal 500 billion won ($450 million) loan for the purpose of financing the inheritance tax.

Lee Jae-yong might appeal to multiple financial institutions

A 500 billion won loan would go down in South Korea’s history books as the highest single personal credit loan, and if someone can obtain it, that someone is Lee Jae-yong. However, industry watchers believe that a single loan of 500 billion won could be seen as preferential treatment by the public, and this may raise concerns.

Because of this, the local media reports that Samsung’s vice chairman is looking to secure multiple loans from different financial institutions. As for the chances of these loans being approved, an unnamed official from the financial sector cited by The Bell claims that there is no reason why banks cannot lend credit as they [the heirs] have excellent personal creditworthiness and cash-generating power, and the use of funds is clear.

Samsung’s 2021 QLED smart TV series is breaking domestic sales records

Samsung’s brand-new 2021 QLED smart TV series is performing very well in South Korea, where the company claims that the 2021 TV lineup has been selling twice as fast as the predecessor did a year ago. The company claims that roughly 40,000 QLED TVs were sold in South Korea between March 3 and April 23, and 25% of sales were attributed to the 2021 Neo QLED smart TV series.

In other words, Samsung was able to sell 10,000 Neo QLED smart TV models in South Korea in less than two months since the new TVs were introduced in March. The majority of buyers have gravitated towards larger screens, with 75% of New QLED smart TV customers opting for a 75-inch-or-higher diagonal.

According to the GM of Samsung Electronics Korea, the strong market performance is the result of leading market trends through differentiated technology and various functions that reflect the lifestyles of consumers. The Neo QLED lineup boasts a new solar-powered remote, AMD Freesync Premium Pro, a 120Hz refresh rate with a low 5.8ms response time, and an edge-to-edge display design.

But aside from these impressive tech characteristics, the other reason why Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs have been so successful in South Korea is because of Samsung’s marketing campaigns. Since April 1, the company’s been offering discounts of up to 1 million won ($900) to Neo QLED TVs customers who trade in an older TV.

Of course, sales figures were also helped by the fact that more people are now spending a lot more time at home, so the strong momentum will likely be maintained for at least a few more months.

April 2021 patch for Galaxy Z Flip hits the US (and it’s not even summer)

A great disturbance in the force could have been felt today from across the Pond; as if millions of security vulnerabilities cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Come to think of it, those might have been AT&T stockholders. Because the telecom giant is splashing the cash again, having even gone so far as to push out the April 2021 security update to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G – in April.

And it’s not the only one to do so; far from it, in fact. See, the April 2021 security update is now deploying to nearly every Galaxy Z Flip 5G variant sold stateside. That would be the carrier-locked units under the model number SM-F707U1. As for the patch at hand, it can be identified by build version F707U1UEU1CUC6.

Not a joke: Even some store units got the April 1st update today

Within the last 24 hours, the new security patch level for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G appeared on T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, Xfinity Mobile’s network. Going by PDA versions indexed in our firmware archives, even some store units have been updated. But that mostly goes to show how niche of a device the Galaxy Z Flip remains, with or without 5G connectivity.

Of course, Samsung will be looking to change that as early as this summer, which is when its next foldable clamshell device is expected to launch, either as the Galaxy Z Flip 2 or 3. However it ends up being called, we’re anticipating a plethora of color options and hopefully many more security updates, as well.
