Galaxy Watch 4’s awesome new Exynos chip is now official

Samsung has unveiled a brand new Exynos processor—Exynos W920—that is tailor-made for wearable devices. It is the successor to the Exynos 9110 that was unveiled three years ago alongside the original Galaxy Watch. The Exynos W920 will debut inside the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic tomorrow. Despite being more power-efficient than its predecessor, the new Exynos chip promises much faster performance.

The Exynos W920 is made using Samsung Foundry’s latest 5nm process. It features two ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores and the ARM Mali-G68 GPU. The South Korean firm claims that its new wearable chipset is 20% faster than the Exynos 9110 in CPU tests and offers a whopping 10x faster graphics performance. The Exynos W920’s GPU can handle displays with up to qHD resolution (960 x 540 pixels).

The new Exynos processor comes in the smallest package that is currently available in the wearable segment: Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging (FO-PLP). It includes the Exynos W920, a power management chip, LPDDR4 RAM, and eMMC storage in the same package to efficiently use physical space inside a wearable device. This allows smartwatches to use the saved space to pack larger batteries.

The chipset also features a dedicated low-power Cortex-M55 display processor for handling AoD (Always-on Display) tasks. This reduces the overall power consumption of wearable devices that use the Exynos W920 chip. It also comes integrated with GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), a 4G LTE modem, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and Bluetooth 5.0. Naturally, it supports Wear OS that is co-developed by Google and Samsung.

Harry Cho, Vice President of System LSI Marketing at Samsung Electronics, said, “Wearables like smartwatches are no longer just a cool gadget to have. They’re now a growing part of our lifestyles to keep you fit, safe and alert. With the Exynos W920, future wearables will be able to run applications with visually appealing user interfaces and more responsive user experiences while keeping you connected on the go with fast LTE.“

Want a charger with the Galaxy Z Fold 3? You might have to pre-order

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 has been available for reservation for a few weeks now, and pre-orders are only a couple of days away. Official pre-order details are presently unknown, but according to @_snoopytech_ on Twitter, Samsung will bundle Galaxy Z Fold 3 pre-orders with a so-called “Note Pack” consisting of an S Pen case and a 25W wall charger.

This leak seemingly confirms a few important things about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 launch. Yes, it’s going to have S Pen support, as revealed countless times before, but it also seems like it won’t ship with a wall charger in the box, which sounds about right, given Samsung’s recent efforts to cut down on costs.

This Galaxy Z Fold 3 pre-order bundle will reportedly be worth 89 euros, which brings us to the alleged cost of the S Pen case.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 S Pen case will apparently cost 70 euros

Pricing details for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 S Pen case have yet to emerge, but if the latest rumor is correct and the foldable phone’s pre-order bundle contains two items worth 89 euros combined, that means the case should be valued at 70 euros.

The 25W wall charger that will supposedly be included in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 pre-order bundle is sold by Samsung right now for 19 euros. Do the simple math, and you’re left with a value of 70 euros for the S Pen case.

Evidently, this price is not official or set in stone, and it’s unclear if Samsung will offer the same pre-order bundle in every market. We’ll learn more about the company’s price and availability plans for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 at Unpacked.

Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 case renders show bold new designs

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 in a couple of days, but given the rate at which these two foldable phones continue to leak, time will tell if there will be anything left to unveil come August 11. The latest leak via WinFuture gives us a clear look at the official cases planned for release along with the two new foldable phones, and yes, the S Pen case for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 makes an appearance.

This year, it looks like Samsung gave a lot more thought to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 protective cases. They’re available in more colors, and more importantly, there’s a wider variety of designs.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 leaked official cases

One of two leaked Galaxy Z Fold 3 cases is made of two pieces — one for each half of the phone — and will be available in at least five color options: black, brown, green, white, and a more navy-blueish green.

The second case design is a lot more exciting. The two halves are connected, and more importantly, there’s an S Pen holster at the hinge. It will seemingly be available in a single color option: black.

Galaxy Z Flip 3 leaked official cases

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 will get at least three unique case designs, each in a multitude of colors. There’s the usual two-piece protective case disconnected at a hinge. It’s depicted in three different colors: black, brown/cream, and green.

As seen above, there’s a similar case made of two halves, except it has a carbon fiber finish. It’s unclear if the case is made of actual carbon fiber or if it only looks this way.

Next, we have another two-piece case, this time connected by a short nylon strap at the hinge, complete with a metal ring that’s big enough to be attached to a keychain. It’s shown in five colors: blue, green, olive, red, and violet.

Finally, there’s a much bolder two-piece case design with a wide nylon strap running across the lower half of the case. It features prominent “Flip” letters, and it has a metal key holder of its own. It will be available in at least two color options: blue + orange, and white + bright green.

Pricing details are yet unknown, but at this rate, they could leak ahead of August 11, so stay tuned just in case — no pun intended.

Samsung has a dual-aperture smartphone camera solution in the works

The Galaxy S9 was Samsung’s first smartphone to use a dual-aperture system for its camera. It allowed the phone to widen the camera’s aperture to F1.5 in low-light situations and let in more light at the expense of slightly blurrier edges. In daylight conditions, the camera’s aperture stayed at F2.4 for sharper shots. The technology was included in the Galaxy S10 series as well, but the company dropped it with the Galaxy S20 series. Now, it looks like the company is working on a dual-aperture system for smartphones with triple-camera setups.

Samsung has filed a new patent with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) which explains how movable camera sensors can be used to switch between two lenses with different aperture values. The patent shows a triple-camera setup in which each sensor can change its position. In its standard setup, the camera sensors are laid out horizontally. However, they can be moved using a gear and rack system. The camera in the middle moves up and down, while the two other sensors move sideways.

In its alternate setup, the camera sensors are arranged in a triangular layout. They sit behind their secondary lenses that have different aperture values when compared to the primary lenses. The patent states that the cameras use wider aperture lenses when they are arranged in a triangular layout and narrower aperture lenses when they are in a horizontal layout. Similar to the Galaxy S9’s camera, this system allows the phone’s camera to switch between different aperture values, depending on the lighting conditions.

While this camera system seems extremely flexible and useful, a lot of moving parts can lead to mechanical failure in the future, especially when subjected to drops and shocks. Moreover, we still don’t know if Samsung will actually use this camera system in any of its upcoming smartphones.

Here’s how to watch the August 2021 Galaxy Unpacked live

Well, it’s official: the next Galaxy Unpacked is taking place on August 11th. Samsung just confirmed as much several hours back. And as things stand right now, it’s going to be the biggest one of the year. Based on a couple of factors at least, starting with the number of the actual devices Samsung is poised to unveil at the event. That figure currently stands at four, two foldable smartphones in the form of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3, as well as a couple of wearables – the Galaxy Buds 2 and Galaxy Watch 4, respectively.

August 11th falls on Wednesday, with the upcoming event being scheduled to start at 10:00 AM EDT. That translates to 4:00 PM CET, 7:30 PM IST, and 11:00 PM KST.

How to tune in to the August 2021 edition of Galaxy Unpacked

As per usual, Samsung will be live-streaming this ostensibly online-only event. In order to tune in to the proceedings, you will have two main options to choose from: watching the action on YouTube or following the event directly from Samsung.com.

Here’s how much Galaxy A03s could cost in Europe

Samsung has been working on the Galaxy A03s, and the smartphone was first leaked two months ago. The entry-level smartphone’s images, dimensions, and some specifications were revealed. Since then, the Galaxy A03s has been inching closer to its launch. Now, the phone’s possible European pricing has been leaked as well.

According to the information from 91Mobiles (in collaboration with tipster Sudhanshu), the Galaxy A03s will cost €150 in various European countries. It is also being reported that the Galaxy A03s will be available in three colors: Black, Blue, and White. The upcoming smartphone will also be launched in India and other Asian markets.

Going by previous leaks, the Galaxy A03s features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD Infinity-V display with HD+ resolution. It will run Android 11 out of the box and come equipped with the MediaTek Helio G35 processor, 4GB RAM, and 32GB/64GB internal storage. It will also feature a microSD card slot for storage space expansion. We can also expect the phone to feature a dual-SIM card slot, LTE, GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Galaxy A03s reportedly features a 13MP+2MP+2MP triple-camera setup on the rear and a 5MP selfie camera at the front. The smartphone reportedly measures 166.6 x 75.9 x 9.1mm and comes powered by a 5,000mAh battery.

Is this is our first official sneak peak at the Galaxy S21 FE?

The Galaxy S21 FE was expected to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in August. However, the phone was reportedly delayed due to chip shortages and supply chain issues. While the smartphone hasn’t been announced yet, it looks like Samsung accidentally leaked its own device.

A new image published on Samsung’s official Instagram profile seems to showcase the Galaxy S21 FE in its purple avatar. Since the camera bump and the back of the smartphone have the same color, it can’t be the Galaxy S21 or the Galaxy S21+. Looks like someone in Samsung’s social media and marketing team didn’t pay enough attention while creating this image and used the Galaxy S21 FE’s image instead of using the Galaxy S21’s image.

The Galaxy S21 FE is rumored to feature a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone will reportedly come equipped with the Snapdragon 888 processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB/26GB of internal storage. It could feature the same camera setup that is used on the Galaxy S20 FE, which means that it could feature a 32MP selfie camera, a 12MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP camera with 3x optical zoom.

The device could debut running Android 11. It could also feature an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, Samsung Pay, 5G, and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. The Galaxy S21 FE could be powered by a 4,500mAh battery that supports up to 25W fast charging.
