Galaxy A32 picks up the September 2021 security update

Samsung appears to be on a roll today. After releasing the latest security update to the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and the Galaxy A52 5G, the company has released it to the Galaxy A32. The update is currently available in Peru, but it could soon expand to other countries worldwide.

The new software update for the Galaxy A32 comes with firmware version A325MUBU1AUH1. It includes the September 2021 security patch that fixes more than 50 privacy and security-related vulnerabilities. The update could also include general bug fixes and device stability improvements. The Galaxy A32 5G hasn’t received the new security update yet.

If you are a Galaxy A32 user in Peru, you might have received the new software update’s notification. If you haven’t received it yet, you can check for the OTA update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also flash the firmware manually after downloading the firmware file from our database.

Carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip gets September 2021 security update in the US

Samsung has released its latest security update to the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Z Flip in the US. The update is currently rolling out on Sprint’s network, but it could soon expand to more carriers over the next few days. The unlocked variant of the phone hasn’t received the update yet.

The carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Z Flip is getting the new update with firmware version F700USQS4EUI1. It includes the September 2021 security patch that promises to fix more than 50 privacy and security-related vulnerabilities. The update might also have some device stability improvements, but don’t expect any new features or design changes.

If you are a Galaxy Z Flip user on Sprint’s network in the US, you can check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually. However, you would need a Windows computer to do that.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy Z Flip in the US in early 2020 with Android 10-based One UI 2. The foldable smartphone received the Android 11-based One UI 3 update earlier this year and the One UI 3.1.1 update a few weeks ago.

Unlocked Galaxy Note 10 series in USA gets September security update

The Galaxy Note 10 series began receiving the September 2021 security update in the first week of September. It was among the first Galaxy smartphones to receive it, but the rollout was limited to South Korea. A couple of weeks later, Samsung is now ready to release the September update for the unlocked Galaxy Note 10 series in the USA.

Galaxy Note 10 users in the USA can identify the new update by firmware version N97xU1UES7FUH7. It appears to be a routine update with the September 2021 security patch included, but the firmware number indicates that the update doesn’t bring any significant changes or additions.

Fortunately for Galaxy Note 10 series owners, they will eventually enjoy an upgrade to Android 12, most likely next year. Until then, the series will continue to receive security updates regularly.

The September 2021 security patch itself was detailed a couple of weeks ago, and it addresses 23 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposure items. As usual, you should be able to download the new update from the Settings app on your phone by accessing the Software update menu. Or you can download the latest update from our firmware database and install the Galaxy Note 10 update manually.

September security patch is out now for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 internationally

Samsung is now rolling out another firmware update for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and in the process, the company’s bringing the September 2021 security patch to the international model. The new firmware update is rolling out around the world, with Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners in dozens of countries now being able to download it OTA, or from our firmware database.

The firmware update is accompanied by a relatively standard changelog that mentions the usual potential stability improvements, bug fixes, and other enhanced features. For the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in Russia, the update also includes a handful of (bloatware) apps that are now required by the Russian Government.

The new firmware update weighs a little under 200MB

The update includes the September 2021 security patch, which was detailed by Samsung a couple of weeks ago. The September security patch actually began rolling out for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in Europe, specifically Germany, earlier this month, but now it’s rolling out internationally.

The new update (F916BXXS2EUI) isn’t as feature-packed as the previous one, which already brought several features from the Galaxy Z Fold 3 to the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Nevertheless, improved security is nothing to sneeze at.

You can verify if the latest firmware is available for your smartphone model in your region via our firmware archive. If it is, you can either acquire it OTA update by tapping the notification once it arrives, or you can try triggering the update from the Settings app in the Software update section. As usual, you can download the new firmware from our database and install it manually on your Galaxy Z Fold 2 using a PC.

Your Samsung phone will soon have a Locked Folder for those spicy pics

Ever have that growing feeling of dread when someone’s scrolling through the photos on your phone? Perhaps you were showing them something and they took that as an invitation to keep scrolling. Next thing you know they’ve come across a picture of the spicy kind.

It’s a more common occurrence than you’d think. There should be a simpler way of keeping photos and videos on the device that you’d rather not want anybody else to see. That’s exactly what’s coming to a Samsung phone near you.

Google Photos can now do what Secure Folder has done all along

Google Photos is one of the many Google apps that come pre-installed on every Android phone. You’ll find it on your Samsung device as well. While most people tend to use Samsung’s own Gallery app, many rely on Google Photos due to the additional features that it provides.

Google announced in May this year that it’s bringing a Locked Folder feature to Google Photos. It does exactly what the name suggests. Users get a secure folder inside Google Photos that’s protected with a passcode or biometrics like a fingerprint.

So even if someone has taken the liberty of scrolling through all of your photos and videos, they won’t see what’s inside the Locked Folder. The media that’s locked in this folder won’t show up even when you scroll through other apps on the phone. Nothing that’s stored in the Locked Folder is backed up to the cloud.

The company had previously made this feature exclusive to its Pixel phones only. It has now been confirmed that the Google Photos Locked Folder will be rolling out to other Android devices soon. Expect it to become available on your Samsung phone in the near future.

There’s an even simpler way. You could just move them to Samsung’s very own Secure Folder. It’s a locked enclave on your device that’s completely shut off from the system. Any media stored in Secure Folder also doesn’t show up when scrolling through other apps.

Samsung flagships suffering from stuttery slow-motion recording?

Throughout 2021, several complaints from Galaxy flagship owners popped up on the Samsung Community website, and they all detailed similar issues. Whether it was the Galaxy S20/Galaxy S21 or Galaxy Note 20 series, a few users have highlighted some unpleasant slow-motion recording issues that seemingly affect Samsung’s flagships — or at least, a limited number of them.

Although the issue never seemed to be too widespread, it persists, at least according to some users. If you count among them, feel free to leave a comment below and share more details about the Galaxy device you’re using and the difficulties you’re experiencing while recording slow-motion videos.

We tested this camera feature on the Galaxy S21 Ultra running One UI 4.0 and the Galaxy S21+ running One UI 3.1. Slow-motion recording seems to be working as intended on both models and operating systems, and we were unable to reproduce the issue. That’s not to say it doesn’t exist — it’s just that we have yet to encounter it. Nevertheless, affected users have shared videos before, and you can check the one embedded below if you want to see exactly how this slow-motion problem manifests.

If you are experiencing choppy framerate or other visual artifacts while recording in slow motion, let us know what Galaxy phone and firmware version you’re using, and perhaps we can all help Samsung find the root of the problem. It’s still unclear if it affects only Exynos/Qualcomm variants of both, but reports seem to be leaning more towards the former chipset.
