How to watch Samsung’s surprise Galaxy Unpacked 2021 Part 2 event

Samsung is holding a surprise Galaxy Unpacked event on October 20, 2021. While the company didn’t reveal precisely what it will unveil during the event, it has mentioned that it is “opening up new experiences for self-expression through technology.”

The upcoming Unpacked 2012 event will be held online, similar to the previous Unpacked 2021 events where Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. You can watch the event’s live video stream on Samsung’s YouTube channel on October 20, 2021, at 10 AM ET. The company will also live stream the event on its websites – Samsung.com and Samsung Newsroom.

It is rumored that the South Korean firm could unveil new colors for its Galaxy Z series smartphones. If this is true, this would be the first time the company is holding a separate event just for new color variants of existing products. The company could also announce special collaborations for its current and upcoming products during the Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event.

This might be exactly what the Galaxy S22 series looks like

Samsung is done with the flagship phone launches it had planned for 2021. Fans are now looking forward to the Galaxy S22 series due next year. Will the new devices be worthy of a place on the list of best Samsung phones?

Only time will tell. For now, there’s no shortage of rumors and leaks about what we can expect from these devices. New schematics have emerged that give us an idea of exactly what the Galaxy S22 series might look like.

Big design refresh likely for the Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung is expected to launch three models of the Galaxy S22 series. That won’t surprise anyone. It has done that for a couple of years now for the Galaxy S series. The schematics repeat an earlier rumor that suggests Samsung might rename the “+” model next year.

So instead of the Galaxy S22+ we might end up with a device called the Galaxy S22 Pro. The name doesn’t matter, though. Pro or “Plus,” this handset will slot between the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The schematics highlight the exact dimensions of all three models. They give you an idea of just how tall, wide and thick the new flagships are going to be. The numbers for the camera cutout are also there.

They also reiterate a rumor that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a boxy design like that of the Galaxy Note series. That’s because Samsung might finally be replacing the Galaxy Note series.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is going to be the compromise as Samsung kills off the Note series for good. We can also see the outline for the redesigned camera housing. It will be entirely different from that of the other two models.

The slot for the S Pen might be located on the left side. That’s not going to be a problem for those who switch from the Galaxy Note 20 series.

It actually moved the S Pen slot from the right to the left. As someone who still uses a Galaxy Note 10+ with the S Pen on the right side, I know I might have to retrain my muscle memory for the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

As things stand, Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S22 series in February next year. We’ll keep an ear to the ground in the meantime and bring you any news about the device in the meantime.

Looks like the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will be extremely hard to find

We’re still waiting for Samsung’s yearly launch of new flagship tablets. The company was supposed to launch the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup in 2021 but that hasn’t happened as yet. That might have something to do with the chip shortage.

Or it might be because Samsung will now launch three new models of its flagship tablet. That’s not something it has done before. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will be the top-of-the-line absolutely bonkers model.

Samsung might not produce a lot of Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra units

Earlier leaks have revealed that the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will feature a massive 14.6-inch OLED 120Hz display. The tablet will have a next-gen processor, up to 12GB of RAM, a 12,000mAh battery and 45W charging support. The S Pen will also ship with this tablet.

Samsung is said to introduce a new ultrathin display bezel technology with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. This will enable the tablet to have very slim bezels. That’s something a lot of customers might appreciate.

That is if those customers are able to buy the tablet in the first place. New rumors out of South Korea suggest that the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will be in extremely short supply at launch. Only a small quantity of units will be made available in limited markets.

It’s even claimed that Samsung won’t be making many extra units once the launch stock runs out. This might not have something to do with the chip shortage. There are apparently issues with the production yield of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra’s display.

The price of this display panel is rumored to be high as well. The higher production cost might not result in the kind of margins that Samsung might want. So it will launch the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra just to prove a point. Only customers in select markets may be able to buy one as long as it remains in stock.

That’s not an ideal situation but the tablet has to make business sense for Samsung. If this rumor is anything to go by, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra doesn’t.

Samsung breaks new 5G upload speed record in Texas

Samsung broke another industry speed record for 5G, the company announced today. Specifically, Samsung collaborated with Verizon and Qualcomm to conduct a 5G demonstration in Plano, Texas, where a record-breaking data upload speed of 711 Mbps was achieved.

In practical terms, an upload rate of 711 Mbps would allow a user to upload a 1GB video file in roughly 10 seconds. The transfer rate is fast enough to allow high-definition videos to be recorded and uploaded to the cloud or on social media in real-time.

5G technologies that can achieve these high transfer rates are expected to be widely used by enterprises. The technology can be utilized on the production line for real-time image analysis and defect detection, and thus, it can improve manufacturing.

How did Samsung achieve 711 Mbps upload on 5G?

The demonstration was done using Samsung’s 5G and 4G base stations and the Snapdragon X65 5G modem.

More specifically, the high upload rate was achieved through carrier aggregation technology by combining two or more frequency bands in Samsung’s 5G Compact Macro solution. The same 5G mmWave Compact Macro station was used by Samsung to speed up transfer rates in Seoul’s Metro network during a demonstration held last month.

According to the VP of Samsung Electronics’ Network Business Development Team, the company is “one step closer to realizing a differentiated 5G service and an immersive user experience” thanks to this demonstration.

Samsung led the market in Q3 but the shopping season is looking grim

The global semiconductor shortage has hit the smartphone market hard in the third quarter of the year, reveals a preliminary market report from Canalys. Worldwide smartphone shipments dropped 6% year-on-year, but not much has changed for Samsung regarding market share.

In the 3rd quarter of the year, Samsung held a global smartphone market share of 23% based on shipments — unchanged from a year ago. The company remained the reigning champion, while other OEM’s, including Apple, Vivo, and Oppo (including OnePlus) managed to increase their shares marginally. Apple was even able to steal the 2nd place back from Xiaomi. According to Canalys, strong demand for the iPhone 13 contributed to this outcome.

We may not see as many holiday discounts this year

The global semiconductor shortage won’t ease “until well into 2022,” said Canalys Principal Analyst, Ben Stanton. Chip manufacturers have gradually increased prices to close the supply and demand gap, and this could lead to a gradual increase in smartphone prices.

Smartphone brands are attempting to mitigate the damage and match the high demand by making last-minute changes in the supply chain, but according to the source, this often leads to miscommunications with retail and distribution channels.

The situation could worsen at the end of the year, as demand will be even higher around the holiday shopping season. Inventories are already running low, and some retail channels are reportedly reluctant to offer holiday deals because they fear they might not be able to fulfill them.

Given the high demand and low supply, we might not see too many discounts on Samsung products around the holiday shopping season, but Canalys estimates that smartphone brands will offer IoT and wearable product bundles to try pleasing customers.
