This WhatsApp feature is no longer exclusive to Samsung phones

A few months ago, WhatsApp brought the ability to transfer chat history from an iOS device to an Android device. However, that feature was exclusive to Samsung’s Android smartphones for a limited time. Now, the feature is being released to other Android smartphones.

This announcement was made via Google’s official blog post. Users moving from an iPhone to an Android device can quickly transfer their WhatsApp chat history using a Lighting To USB Type-C cable and a QR code. However, the feature currently only works on phones running Android 12. It means that Pixel smartphones running Android 12 can start using this feature.

No other company, including Samsung, has released the stable Android 12 update to their smartphones yet. However, many Android OEMs will start releasing the Android 12 update to their compatible smartphones by the end of this year, and more people can start using the WhatsApp chat history migration tool officially.

Before the arrival of this feature, users switching from Android to iOS or vice versa would need to depend on third-party tools like MobileTrans.

One UI 4 Beta program coming soon to Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 3

Samsung has already released three One UI 4.0 Beta builds to the Galaxy S21 series in a few markets. The company has now revealed that it will soon start the One UI 4.0 Beta program for its latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The One UI 4.0 Beta program will first come to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in South Korea, but it could quickly expand to other markets, including Germany, India, South Korea, the UK, and the US. The information was revealed via the Samsung Members forum. It was also revealed that both unlocked and carrier-locked versions of the phones would get access to this software.

Interested Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 users can join the One UI 4 Beta program once it goes live by visiting the Samsung Members app, logging in using their Samsung account, and clicking on the One UI 4.0 Beta participation banner on the home screen.

The newest version of One UI is based on Android 12, and it brings a lot of features, including improved privacy and security, Material You-inspired UI color theming, improved stock apps, newer widgets, more lock screen widgets, and more. Samsung is opening up Tizen OS to other TV brands

Samsung unveiled a lot of new stuff related to its software and services at the ongoing SDC 21 event. Alongside announcing improvements to Bixby, Samsung Health, Samsung Knox, SmartThings, and Tizen, the company also said that it is opening up Tizen OS to other TV brands.

TV manufacturers can now use Samsung’s Tizen TV Platform Licensing service at a minimal cost and bring Tizen OS to their smart TVs. Apart from the operating system, they will also gain access to the famous Tizen branding and a chance to promote their products at major external events. The platform also has access to various audio and video streaming services, including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube, YouTube Kids, and YouTube TV.

Various TV brands have already been offering smart TVs that use Amazon’s Fire TV and Google’s Android TV operating systems. Recently, even LG and Roku started allowing third-party TV brands to use their smart TV platform, and now, Samsung is joining the race to solidify its position as the market leader in the smart TV space.

It is still unclear if any TV brand has shown interest in using Tizen on its smart TVs. However, the platform is one of the most feature-rich ones out there, and it could attract multiple TV brands that don’t have their own operating system.

Samsung is entering the cloud gaming space, again

During its ongoing Samsung Developer Conference 2021 event, Samsung announced new features and improvements to Bixby, One UI, Samsung Health, Samsung Knox, SmartThings, and Tizen. The company also announced that it is developing a cloud gaming platform of its own, and it will be available on smart TVs running Tizen.

While the company didn’t divulge many details on this development, Samsung’s executive explained that customers could enjoy high-quality games on Tizen OS-powered smart TVs without purchasing high-end gaming hardware (such as gaming PC or gaming console). Moreover, game developers will also be able to integrate features specific to Samsung’s smart TVs for a more immersive experience.

This is not the first time Samsung is diving into the cloud gaming space. In 2012, the company had partnered with Gaikai to offer cloud game streaming on its TVs, and the service was launched in the beta phase. However, Gaikai was then acquired by Sony, which then turned it into PlayStation Now.

The cloud gaming segment has seen a massive rise over the past couple of years, and major tech brands, including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Sony, have their cloud gaming services. Samsung will have to compete with those brands. The company has not announced when it plans to launch the service.

Samsung announces various improvements to Tizen OS for smart TVs at SDC 21

Alongside improvements to Bixby, SmartThings, and Samsung Knox, Samsung also announced improvements to Tizen OS for smart TVs. During the ongoing Samsung Developer Conference 2021, the South Korean firm said it wants to consolidate its leadership in the TV segment with more intelligent software and deeper integration with its other services.

Improved video calling, Samsung Health, and gaming on Tizen-powered smart TVs

Keeping its ‘Screens Everywhere, Screen For All’ vision in mind, the company is introducing newer experiences to Tizen OS for smart TVs. Samsung has developed a better video calling experience on TVs in partnership with Google via AI-enabled focus and zoom features. Samsung Health can now use a webcam attached to a Tizen-powered smart TV to track user movements and provide real-time feedback during workouts.

Samsung’s mid-range and high-end smart TVs already have various gaming-related features, including AMD FreeSync Premium, a 120Hz refresh rate, auto low-latency mode, and Game Bar. For an even better gaming experience, the company is bringing automated settings for low latency and HDR10+ calibration.

Tizen For Business is a new platform for managing interactive digital signage displays

For businesses, the South Korean firm will soon launch the Tizen For Business platform. It supports interactive e-boards in schools, kiosks at malls, and displays at airports, restaurants, stores, and subways. It will offer easy-to-use display management portals that businesses can use for real-time monitoring and remotely controlling screens. It also allows quickly applying settings to multiple devices with just one touch.

Tizen is already the world’s biggest smart TV platform, and with the upcoming improvements, it will have more depth in its arsenal to compete with Amazon’s Fire TV, Google’s Android TV, and LG’s webOS platforms.

One UI Book 4 brings Samsung’s custom skin to Windows PC

For long, Samsung has shipped its Android-powered smartphones with a custom skin. It has changed names a few times over the years and now it’s called One UI. The company today provided more insight into the design philosophy for One UI 4.0. This is the next major iteration of its custom Android skin.

At the Samsung Developers Conference 2021 today the company also announced One UI Book 4. This is Samsung’s custom skin for Windows. The company makes some popular Windows laptops and it’s now going to give them their own skin.

Samsung’s Windows-powered laptops are getting a new look

One UI Book 4 will work much like the way One UI does for Samsung’s smartphones. It’s going to change the look and feel of Windows machines to bring them more in line with Samsung’s visual aesthetic.

The company hasn’t revealed a lot of details about One UI Book 4 at this stage. So it’s unclear exactly how much of the standard Windows UI will be changed by this skin. Samsung did confirm that One UI Book 4 will be released for the Galaxy Book Pro 360, Galaxy Book Pro, Galaxy Book Flex 2, Galaxy Book and the Galaxy Book Odyssey.

It goes without saying that future Samsung laptops will come with One UI Book 4. Samsung hasn’t confirmed exactly when One UI Book 4 is going to be released. So we’ll look forward to that piece of vital information in the weeks to come.
