New Experience Store opens in Belgium’s hotspot for Samsung fans

Samsung continues expanding its Experience Store network in Europe, and the company recently announced the opening of its fourth retail location in Belgium. The Experience Store is located in the Les Grands Prés shopping area in the city of Mons in the Wallonia region.

Studies cited by Samsung show that Belgian customers enjoy buying their smartphones from physical stores more than they like shopping online. Even after lockdowns, 78% of smartphone buyers in Belgium preferred purchasing new products from brick & mortar points of sale.

With that in mind, Samsung wants the new Samsung Experience Store in Mons to offer customers “a safe, fun, and inspiring environment” where they can test new products and get assistance from trained employees.

Wallonia was the perfect choice for a new Experience Store

The new Experience Store is the fourth in Belgium, and Samsung chose Mons in Wallonia for its new retail space because of what the region represents. Wallonia records the highest sales figures for Samsung in Belgium, next to Charleroi. Naturally, Wallonia wasn’t a difficult choice for the new Experience Store, given that it’s practically a hotspot for Samsung fans nationwide.

The Experience Store features the latest Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and wearables. It also offers repair services that shouldn’t take more than 1.5 hours. The store is open from 10 AM to 8 PM from Monday to Sunday. On Fridays, it closes its doors at 9 PM.

Samsung has a new nemesis, and its name is Xiaomi

Samsung’s been facing strong opposition from Chinese smartphone brands in recent years, and although Huawei is no longer a threat, Xiaomi remains a thorn in Samsung’s side. In fact, Xiaomi is shaping up to be the next nemesis, as the company just revealed its plan to take down Samsung and Apple.

Xiaomi wants to overtake both Samsung and Apple in terms of global smartphone market share, and it’s going to want to achieve that in 3 years. How? Well, the company didn’t reveal much about the next-gen phones it has in store, but according to a recent interview with Lu Weibing, a big part of Xiaomi’s strategy to take over the mobile market revolves around its network of retail stores.

Xiaomi is gunning for offline retail supremacy

Xiaomi already overtook Samsung and Apple earlier this year — no doubt helped by Huawei’s demise. It only kept the torch for about a month before Samsung took the lead back, but of course, Xiaomi wants to earn and keep the top spot on the podium indefinitely. It aims to achieve its goals by 2024 by establishing an expansive network of 30,000 offline stores.

Samsung also continues to expand its network of Experience stores in key markets. But for the most part, the Korean tech giant seems to be betting big on foldable display technology to carry the torch forward in the next decade. Samsung doesn’t face strong opposition in this segment yet, but the market might look very different in 2024.

Customers in India can now take Samsung’s foldables out on a 2-week trial

Foldable phone fans in India are in for a surprise from Flipkart, as the retailer is making it possible for almost anyone to try out one of Samsung’s latest foldable phones for two weeks before deciding whether to keep or return it.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who’s had an eye on foldable phones but didn’t get a chance to use them. Samsung offers trial periods for its foldable phones in select markets, but India is not among them. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 are some of the most expensive consumer phones ever released, so having the option to test them before letting go of $1,000-$2,000 for good is a neat perk.

Offer limited by time and the number of foldables

The offer is valid until November 17. Terms and conditions apply. Refunds have to be requested through Flipkart, and customers will have to download a diagnostics app to prove that the foldable phones they’re about to return are in perfect working condition.

Of note is that the offer is not only limited by time but also by a set number of available foldable phones. In other words, the offer is valid until November 17 and for as long as the first 100 Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 units last in stock.

BREAKING: This is the Galaxy S22 Ultra, come check it out!

Well, it’s finally happening, or should we say it’s happening a little earlier than usual this time around: The first live photo of Samsung’s next Galaxy S flagship has hit the internet, almost three months before it’s expected to go official. Pictures showing the Galaxy S22 Ultra and its updated rear-facing design and a built-in S Pen slot have been published by the folks over at FrontPageTech.

Galaxy Note 10 reborn

The Galaxy S22 Ultra — as seen in these first real-life photos — looks more like a Galaxy Note than a Galaxy S model. It’s almost as if Samsung went back to the drawing board after the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 and decided to update and bring back the Galaxy Note 10 design for a new generation.

Unlike the Note 10 series though, the back panel has a matte finish and six circular cutouts for the main cameras, the laser autofocus module, and the LED flash. The dedicated S Pen holster is there — on the left side of the phone. It’s hard to tell, but the back panel might be made of plastic.

The main camera setup should comprise a 108MP main shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and two 10MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x zoom capabilities. The selfie camera is contained in an Infinity-O display cutout, as UDC (Under-Display Camera) technology is not yet ready to drop its Galaxy Z Fold 3 exclusivity.

After a bit of back and forth regarding the possible release of the Galaxy S22 series, many industry watchers now agree that the lineup should be launched in February.

Samsung agrees to share confidential semiconductor data with the USA

The United States Department of Commerce demanded Samsung and other chip manufacturers who operate on U.S. soil to submit all first-tier semiconductor data related to their chip businesses before November 8 under the pretext of the global semiconductor shortage. Samsung contested the Department of Commerce’s request with backing from Korea’s National Intelligence Service, and the U.S. institution reportedly revised its demands and agreed on a compromise.

The ongoing semiconductor shortage has convinced the U.S. Department of Commerce that it’s necessary to be able to better predict semiconductor availability based on data from chipmakers. The institution wants to ensure that parts are available within reasonable timeframes and doesn’t want to be left out in the dark regarding each manufacturer’s supply.

Samsung agrees on sharing second-tier semiconductor business data

The Department of Commerce initially demanded access to confidential information regarding inventory levels, order volumes, supply times, and procurement practices. Evidently, Samsung isn’t too keen on sharing this sensitive information with anyone. And with backing from Korea’s National Intelligence Service, the company reportedly persuaded the U.S. Department of Commerce to soften its demands.

Instead of handing over first-tier semiconductor business data, Samsung reportedly agreed to provide second-tier data related to chipmaking. This won’t include highly-classified information such as inventory levels, order volumes, or client names, but it should give the U.S. Department of Commerce enough data for better planning.

The data will have to be shared before Monday, November 8, and a more formal announcement related to the matter should be issued on the same day. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more.

A European retailer wants your Galaxy S21 FE real bad

Several delays later, the Galaxy S21 FE will finally make its debut at CES 2022, which will span between January 5 and January 8. However, one European retailer seems to have gotten a tad impatient and wants you to trade in your non-existent Galaxy S21 FE right now.

Mediamarkt.nl (via Galaxyclub.nl) will offer you up to EUR 297 for your used Galaxy S21 FE. Interestingly enough, that amount doesn’t change based on the memory/storage configuration or even if you have a carrier-locked SIM. This amount doesn’t mean much, as it is in no way indicative of the Galaxy S21 FE’s actual price.

The Galaxy S21 FE Mediamarkt listing, in all likelihood, is a placeholder put in place sometime around the phone’s October 20 alleged launch date. The fact that its trade-in price remains static reaffirms the statement, primarily because the retailer doesn’t know how much the actual phone will cost.

However, we can expect the Galaxy S21 FE to cost around the EUR 700 mark in Europe, based on how much its predecessor, the Galaxy S20 FE, costs. While this is a decent deal for a feature-rich phone such as the Galaxy S21 FE, one could easily opt for the entry-level Galaxy S21 in its place.  Alternatively, they could wait a bit longer and go for the next-generation Galaxy S22, which is expected to cost around EUR 799.
