Galaxy S6 edge gets the “edge” over the Note 4, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in camera shootout

DxOMark, a company known for its photography and videography testing, brings back the ultimate camera shootout for those who like to see if Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 edge “has the right stuff” to become a bragging right.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus took the lead after Samsung’s Galaxy S5, but Samsung returned to the top of the pack with its Galaxy Note 4 – which slightly “edges” out the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus (no offense to the Note Edge). Of course, it goes without saying that the Note, while the top Samsung device (in our highest opinion), isn’t every Samsung fan’s cup of tea, and the Galaxy S6 edge will appeal because of its smaller form factor.

In any case, Samsung’s most prestigious Galaxy S6 (the edge, no doubt) has been tested alongside the Galaxy Note 4, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone 6. The conclusion? The Galaxy S6 edge’s photography and videography are tough customers (in a good way, that is).

The Galaxy S6 edge excelled in its photography, with the lowest rating in the category pertaining to artifacts (79). Samsung’s newest smartphone to catch its consumer base off guard scored an “87” out of 100 in the flash department, 84 in its noise, 85 in color. The “brightest” spots for the S6 edge were in the categories of texture (90), exposure and contrast (90), and autofocus (94). Samsung’s videography categories trailed that of its photography categories somewhat, but the S6 edge achieved a marvelous feat in its videography noise with a score of 96 out of 100 – the most impressive mark yet for smartphone videography. The one blemish to the success of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 edge in the new shootout pertained to the company’s image stabilization, which received a score of 59 out of 100.

DxOMark praised the Galaxy S6 edge for its fast autofocus, a sign that Samsung’s Galaxy S6 edge has come a long way from the autofocus of its predecessors. When Samsung said that the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge had no lag, the company wasn’t joking.

So, there you have it: the Galaxy S6 edge provides a stellar photography and videography experience, and the low score on image stabilization gives the Korean manufacturer something to work toward with future smartphones. It is our hope that this report will add to the S6 edge’s increasing consumer demand.
