Earlier this year, a trademark application had revealed Samsung’s plans of expanding its metallic Galaxy A lineup with multiple new devices. We were able to access exclusive information on the Galaxy A8, and today we have more details on the device thanks to our insiders. We had initially been told that the Galaxy A8 would be exclusive to the Chinese market, but it seems that won’t be the case and the phone will be launched in various markets in Asia and Europe.
The Galaxy A series (read our review here) has seen considerable success in the mid-range market, so it’s not surprising Samsung doesn’t want to keep it limited to just one market. We have also learned that the Galaxy A8 could have a fingerprint scanner on the retail unit, and like the Galaxy S6, the A8 should have a touch-based sensor. The Galaxy A8 could also have the same themes support as on Samsung’s latest flagships, and to be honest, this is something we are hoping will become a standard on all devices from the company in the future.
The Galaxy A8 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display on a 5.9mm thin metallic frame, an octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB of internal storage, LTE connectivity, a 3,050 mAh battery, and Android 5.0 Lollipop. It’s pretty much a mashup of devices like the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy A7, and if Samsung can price it right, the A8 could give the company a better standing in the competitive mid-range market.
