Samsung falls to fourth place in the Chinese smartphone market

Samsung managed to defeat Apple and placed itself as the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world during Q1 2015, but its market share is falling in China. According to a new report from Strategy Analytics, Samsung fell to fourth place in the Chinese smartphone market, following Xiaomi, Apple, and Huawei.

As per the report, Xiaomi managed to sell 14 million smartphone units, and stood as the largest smartphone brand in China with a market share of 12.8 percent during Q1 2015, while Apple stood second with sales of 13.5 million units and a market share of 12.3 percent. Huawei, the local smartphone brand, sold around 11.2 million smartphone units, and stood as the third largest smartphone brand in the country with a market share of 10.2 percent. Currently, there is no official numbers from Samsung, but according to Strategy Analytics, Samsung stands fourth in the Chinese smartphone market.

Samsung was the largest smartphone vendor in China since 2011 till Q3 2014, but it fell to second place after Xiaomi. In Q4 2014, Apple defeated Samsung, and Huawei repeated the same in Q1 2015. It needs to be seen if the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge help Samsung drive past Huawei during the ongoing quarter.
