Samsung eyes Southeast Asia for Tizen expansion

A report out of Korea claims that Samsung is going to increase its focus on Southeast Asia to breathe new life into its Tizen expansion plans, the company is reportedly going to target countries in Asia such as India which are less influenced by the likes of Google and Apple with Android and iOS. The company is targeting countries with low smartphone penetration rates by competing solely on the price point, a strategy which appears to be working so far.

Samsung is expected to launch the next Tizen smartphone, the Z3, during this year’s Tizen Developer Summit in Bangalore, India. The handset is initially going to be released in countries like India, Nepal and Bangladesh to curb iOS and Android dominance in these markets, particularly at the low-end of the spectrum. It’s expected to stick with the same strategy in neighboring countries which include Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. Analysts believe that Samsung is going to use these markets as a springboard to expand the Tizen ecosystem before it decides to further expand it to markets across Europe and North America.
