Reasons to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 5

This year, Samsung’s been in a mood for experimentation, something that has given us brilliant devices like the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge that fixed a lot of Samsung’s traditional weaknesses, but also went against a few things Samsung fans have gotten used to taking for granted. The Galaxy Note 5 follows the same tradition – it’s the best-looking iteration of the Note series yet, with a mix of top-notch hardware elements that leave out a few features that some users can’t live without.

The Galaxy Note 5 won’t be making a worldwide appearance like its predecessors, but for those that live in the regions where the phablet will go on sale, the Note 5 has a lot to offer. Here’s a list of the top reasons for why you should be making the jump to the latest and greatest from Samsung’s stable.

S Pen Stylus

Three years after the S Pen was introduced with the Galaxy Note II, it remains the primary factor that differentiates the lineup from the huge crowd of phablets on the smartphone market. With the Note 5, the S Pen has learned quite a few new tricks, and the most notable one includes the ability to start jotting notes without the need to even turn on the screen. You still have access to existing features, such as the ability to manually select text from most apps, taking custom screenshots of the screen, and more. The S Pen also looks more like a pen now, and it’s an amazing tool that might not be usable everyday but is really handy when the need arises.

4GB RAM

The Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ are the first Samsung devices to have 4GB of RAM, and it’s a feature that will only add to the experience on a device that was made to multitask (nope, there is no insane memory management like the S6 lineup this time around.) We will need to spend some time with the Note 5 to see how much the added RAM, but theoretically it should help you do more at the same time, more than was possible on any of the previous Galaxy Note flagships.

Display

Samsung’s displays are amazing, and the Galaxy Note 5′s display is as good as it can get. It’s 5.7 inches of beauty that you can’t take your eyes off, with impeccable blacks, high contrast and vivid colors. If you’re an LCD fan, Samsung continues to provide an option to customize the display mode and set it to one that dials down on the vividness and makes things seem more life-like. Thanks to that S Pen, the screen is a beautiful canvas that you can subject to your whims and fancies in order to take productivity to the next level.

Camera

The 16-megapixel camera on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge was second to none and stood in first place in many camera shootouts, and the same camera has carried over to the Galaxy Note 5. Plus, this time you have more manual control in the stock camera app, including the ability to change the shutter speed, which can really help add that extra light to dim situations. Saving in RAW is supported as well, and overall the rear camera will continue to be an example of the best the industry has to offer at the moment.

Quick wired and wireless charging

90 minutes is what it will take to charge the 3,000 mAh battery on the Note 5 from 0 to 100 percent, when you’re using a USB cable. What about wireless charging? Well, that’s fast as well, with the Note 5 needing only 120 minutes to get to full charge with Samsung’s new wireless charging pad. That’s faster than any other device on the market, and impressive for a 3,000 mAh battery.

Samsung Pay

This might not be a feature that everyone will use, but the Galaxy Note 5 is set to make payments easier thanks to support for Samsung Pay. The service will go live in South Korea this month and in the US in September, and will allow users to make payments at NFC terminals and at existing swipe-based card payment systems in retail stores. Unlike the competition, Samsung Pay can work with virtually any card reader and allow users to pay quickly by authenticating the process with their fingerprint.
