Samsung’s Tizen Smart TVs strengthen their hold on the market

A new report has found that Samsung’s dominance in the smart TVs segment has continued into 2016. According to market researcher GfK, one in three smart TVs sold in Europe were based on Samsung’s Tizen operating system. As of November, Tizen-based smart TVs had a market share of 31%, while LG’s webOS was a distant second at 13%. LG’s figures were closely contested by Android TV offerings (Sony, Philips and the likes), which had a collective market share of 11%.

This goes to show that despite the presence of multiple Smart TV operating systems out there, Samsung continues to dominate the market, as has been the case for the entirety of 2015 really. Tizen only had a market share of 13% in July but has clearly won over the consumers since then to reach 31% by November. Samsung will hope to take a larger bite of the pie in the months to come as it plans to aggressively market the new range of curved OLED and “SUHD” televisions in global markets.
