Leaked user manual confirms everything we’ve already heard about the Gear Fit 2

Over the course of the past few weeks, Samsung’s upcoming successor to the Gear Fit has posed for the camera in two sets of leaked images and been the subject of a report claiming that it’s set to launch in South Korea as early as next month. Earlier today, however, a copy of the Gear Fit 2′s user manual was discovered on Samsung’s official website confirming just about everything we’ve heard about the unit to date.

In terms of its appearance, the Gear Fit 2 is extremely similar to its predecessor. It’s still constructed from rubber, but sports an improved ergonomic design that’s curved to suit the shape of a wrist — so it will be more comfortable when being worn for longer periods of time. The button and sensor placement have been kept the same, with the Home and Back keys being positioned on the right-hand side of the device and the heart rate monitor on the underside.

Thankfully, Samsung has done away with the tedious cradle that was required to charge the original Gear Fit. Instead, it has been replaced by a dedicated charging dock (pictured below) similar to the one that the Gear S2 ships with. While the Gear Fit 2 is juicing up, it will display the time together with a count of the total steps recorded for the day so far. Recent rumors point towards the unit sporting a 320mAh battery, so you should only have to charge it once a day; making it the perfect night clock.

Other purported specifications include a 1.84-inch AMOLED display, 4GB of internal memory and a GPS chip embedded in the CPU. The wearable is also expected to be water resistant. Unfortunately, the grade of protection still remains unknown. However, as we’ve mentioned before, we presume that it will be IP68, which would mean that the band can be submerged in over 1.5-meters of water for 30 minutes.
