Samsung pushes out June security update for the Galaxy Note 5 in Australia

Just three days after it detailed the contents of this month’s Security Maintenance Release (SMR), Samsung has started distributing the update for the unlocked variant of the Galaxy Note 5 located in Australia. The upgrade transports all of Google’s latest patches to the handset, in addition to a plethora of Samsung-specific optimizations, which includes a much-needed patch for a vulnerability that enabled prying eyes to bypass the lock screen using a USB cable.

If you own an Australian model of the unlocked Galaxy Note 5 and would like to see if the firmware is ready for your device, you can do so by heading into the Settings screen, tapping About Device, selecting Software Update, then hitting the Update Now button. However, if you don’t feel like delving through the menus, you could always wait until you receive a push notification prompting you to download the OTA. It’s worth noting that you will need at least 50% of battery to receive the alert, though.
