Samsung unveiled its ultra-rugged smartphone, the Galaxy S7 Active, which features a shatter-resistant display, water-resistant and dust-resistant body, and MIL STD-810G certification. Naturally, Samsung is targeting this smartphone towards industries with field service workers who need a rugged device on a day-to-day basis.
Chris Briglin, director of product marketing at Samsung Business, said that there’s an audience for the Galaxy S7 Active for sure. “The key industries in the U.S. for the Galaxy S7 Active are manufacturing, logistics, field services, and government,” said Briglin. Samsung is expanding its footprint in the enterprise market by bundling its KNOX security solution, which has been named as the strongest mobile security platform. The Galaxy S7 Active will reach enterprises through BYOD plans.
According to the company, the Galaxy S7 Active competes with durable voice-only feature phones, which are being used by service technicians and sales engineers in the field. The South Korean smartphone giant is already working with firms like Tri-State Compressed Air Systems as a customer to provide a smartphone that can take a beating.
The Galaxy S7 Active features specifications broadly similar to the Galaxy S7 but comes with a tougher build and a larger 4,000 mAh battery. Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S7 Active now comes with a fingerprint sensor integrated into its home button and Samsung Pay for easy mobile payments.
