First, let me introduce myself. My name is Kirsten and I’m a new part-time blogger at SamMobile. My task? Write about “ladyphones” and Samsung devices from a woman’s point of view. Contrary to men, girls prefer a good selfie camera rather than “awesome specifications.” We also pay more attention to a phone’s design than its performance in the latest games.
After using an iPhone for about six years, I switched to Samsung with the pink gold Galaxy S7 edge. The switch was for a few reasons, but mainly so I could finally use my rose gold Gear S2 Classic. Of course, the bigger screen and the pink color on the S7 edge are nice extras as well. So I said farewell to my iPhone 6 and welcomed my new best friend.
The biggest issue I have with the pink gold Galaxy S7 edge is that its color does not match that of my Gear S2. I do love the design of the S7 edge, however – the edges give it a smooth look, and the phone feels good in the hand and rather compact for the size. The back of the phone has an expensive look thanks to all the glass, and I can almost forgive the fact that you can see a lot of fingerprints on that shiny glass.
I’m pretty clumsy and have dropped my phones several times. So the first thing I did after getting the S7 was buy a case. It wasn’t an official Samsung case as there was no pink case available from the company, and there still isn’t here in the Netherlands. It’s not a good thing – while the third-party case works fine, it doesn’t go well with the design of the phone. Having an official case in a matching color would have been great.
Now, getting to the cameras, I have to say the Galaxy S7 edge’s camera quality shocked me. I was rather used to the iPhone’s camera, and it’s almost a shame how better the S7 edge’s camera is. Of course, I do consider the fact that the iPhone 6 is almost 18 months older than my S7 edge, but I found even the Galaxy S6 to have a considerably better camera.
The selfie camera is better as well as it captures photos with more light, and overall I’m very happy with the cameras on my S7 edge. I also love the fact that I can start the camera by double pressing the home button. Goodbye dark and blurry photos, hello bright, quick and shiny selfies!
Another big plus compared to the iPhone is the screen quality. Reading on my iPhone’s display out walking in the sun was really hard at times, but with my S7 edge I can lay down in the sun and still check my Facebook feed without straining to see what is on the screen. My boyfriend tells me this is because of the Super AMOLED display, a technology Samsung has been using for several years. I don’t normally care about specifications like this, but I don’t mind bringing it up in this review given how it offers such an advantage.
I have used iOS for many years, so it took me a week or two before I got used to Android. Before I made the switch, I thought it would be difficult move, but now I use my S7 edge like any other phone. I still have issues finding items in the settings menu, but the search option usually takes care of that. Otherwise, I can always ask my geeky boyfriend. Where would us women be without our men? Or, well, without our good-looking ladyphones?
Overall, I’m really happy with my Galaxy S7 edge. The camera, display and design don’t make me regret leaving my iPhone behind. However, it would have been great if the the S7 edge was a proper rose gold instead of pink gold, something Samsung really needs to look at in the future. It would have made the S7 edge more perfect for me.
