Samsung today announced that it’s teaming up with T-Mobile in the United States for new demonstrations and lab tests on 5G mobile networks. This partnership will enable the two companies to assess next-generation network development in real-world mobile use cases and applications while conducting lab and field trials that demonstrate what 5G can bring to the table.
Samsung and T-Mobile will kick things off with initial testing of 5G mobility in an outdoor environment using T-Mobile’s 28 GHz (mmWave) spectrum and Samsung’s 5G proof of concept system later this year. Additional in-depth trials will be conducted in early 2017 using Samsung’s pre-commercial 28 GHz system.
“We are excited to work with Samsung to see how we can bring to life key attributes of emerging 5G technology, including extreme speed, low latency and massive connectivity,” said Neville Ray, Chief Technology Officer, T-Mobile. Samsung has been hard at work developing network equipment and devices to bring 5G to the masses, it regards itself as a key contributor to this effort and reiterates that it holds a number of key patents related to new 5G standards that will aid in the development of the 5G network standard.
