Samsung is betting big on its semiconductor products, and the company has managed to grab a record high market share in the mobile DRAM market during Q3, 2016. According to the recent data by DRAM market tracker DRAMeXchange, Samsung’s share of the global mobile DRAM market rose to 64.5%, up from 61.5% during last quarter.
The South Korean semiconductor giant’s mobile DRAM sales increased by 22.4% from last quarter to US$2.96 billion. SK Hynix, Samsung’s main rival saw its market share decline from 25.1% in Q2, 2016 to 22.8% in Q3, 2016. Micron Technology’s market share dropped to 10.6%. Samsung and SK Hynix had a combined market share of 87.3% during last quarter.
Last month, Samsung unveiled its 10nm-based 8GB DRAM chipset for smartphones and tablets, which it claims can massively improve experiences on devices with large, high-resolution screens. The company is also manufacturing Qualcomm’s upcoming high-end SoC, the Snapdragon 835, based on its new 10nm FinFET fabrication technology.
