Refurbished Galaxy Note 7 will not be sold in the United States

Samsung confirmed yesterday that it’s going to bring back the Galaxy Note 7. It’s going to sell refurbished units in select markets across the globe. These units will reportedly have a smaller battery so that they don’t catch fire like the original units did. Samsung has said that it’s going to work with local regulators in different markets across the globe to get approval for this plan and it has confirmed that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 won’t be sold in the United States.

“The objective of introducing refurbished devices is solely to reduce and minimize any environmental impact,” the company said in a statement provided to The Verge, also hinting that the device may be renamed entirely when refurbished units hit the market. “The product details including the name, technical specification and price range will be announced when the device is available,” it added.

Refurbishing Galaxy Note 7 is part of Samsung’s three-step process to recycle millions of Galaxy Note 7 devices that it has recovered from customers. The other steps include salvaging usable components like semiconductors and cameras as well as extracting metal parts by working with third-party “eco-friendly” companies.
