We had been picking up on hints that Samsung could soon launch a new Xcover smartphone and it has finally followed through with the official announcement. Samsung confirmed today that it’s going to release the Galaxy Xcover 4 in April. The handset has been designed for harsh environments and it’s protected against water and dust as well as extreme impacts and temperatures.
The Galaxy Xcover 4 has IP68 water and dust resistance certification and it’s toughness is guaranteed by the US military standard MIL-STD 810G. This means that it’s going to work in extreme high and low temperatures while being able to withstand intense sunlight, salt water mist, mechanical shocks and vibrations.
The specs list reveals that the Galaxy Xcover 4 has a 4.99-inch TFT 720×1280 pixel resolution display with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor underneath that’s hooked up to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage with microSD card support. Weighing just 172 grams, the handset also features a 2,800mAh battery.
Since it’s meant to be a very practical device, the touchscreen will respond even if you have gloves on. Aside from its HD display, the Xcover 4 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with integrated flash as well as a 5-megapixel front camera. Samsung is going to release the Galaxy Xcover 4 in Europe starting this April for 259 euro.
