If you’ve read any recent reports about Samsung’s AI-powered personal digital assistant Bixby, you would probably know that its highly-anticipated voice recognition and voice command functionalities aren’t ready yet for is launch in the US. However, it is now being reported that its image recognition capability is crippled as well, at least on Verizon’s units.
Bixby Vision, a feature that can identify text and recognize objects, is limited in functionality on Verizon’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ units in the US. According to a report from CNET, Bixby Vision doesn’t include the Amazon shopping option which lets users point the Galaxy S8′s camera at certain objects so that they can get links to shop for those objects online.
Verizon has confirmed the issue, and said that it is working with Amazon to solve it. In the meantime, the carrier is asking its customers to use Amazon’s app on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ for “the same photo and shopping experience.” This makes Bixby even less useful for those who want to use it. Bixby is expected to be released in Germany sometime in Q4 2017.
