Over the course of the past few days, a number of reports have surfaced online from Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus owners in South Korea, claiming that their handset’s display has a reddish tint. Quick to defend its latest flagship, Samsung issued a statement informing customers it’s not a quality problem, and that the color of the panel can be adjusted using the options on board the device.
It’s not always as simple as toying around with the colors, though. According to The Korea Herald, one user reportedly attempted to alter their Galaxy S8′s color balance, but was unable to do so because it was already optimized. Needless to say, the reddish tint remained in place. Samsung’s advice? Take the unit to a local service center to receive a replacement.
“The reddish tint may be caused by a color balance problem after Samsung used deep red AMOLED to strengthen the red,” said an industry watcher.
For the most part (and from our experience), altering the color balance does the trick. When we first got our hands on the Galaxy S8, we noticed a slight reddish tint, especially when compared to another unit that had the correct display configuration. The easiest way for Samsung to address the problem on a wide scale is to issue a software update — and that’s what we think it’ll do.
